Cedric Wilson is in his third season as the Golden Wildcats' head coach.  At this point, his teams have won 8 and lost 8.

This will be the third meeting between the Golden Wildcats and the Tomcats.  The two previous meetings were TSSAA playoff games.  In 1999 Haywood defeated Melrose by a score of 19-18 (second round).  In 2003 Melrose defeated Haywood by a score of 57-7 (first round).

Cedric Wilson (Melrose) and Chris Smith (Haywood) are in their third season as head coach at their respective schools.  Counting Covid wins and loses, Wilson's record is currently 8-8.  Smith's record is currently  26-6.

Melrose (2-2) is averaging 29.5 points per game while giving up an average.of 23.5.  Melrose's opponents have a combined record of  11 wins and 8 loses.

Haywood (4-0) is averaging 39.8 points per game while giving up an average of 5.3.  Haywood's opponents have a combined record of 4 wins and 15 loses.

Based on opponents' wins and loses, it may look like Melrose has played a stronger schedule.
I don't think that matters.  I believe the Tomcats are at the least three touchdowns better than the Wildcats.

I just now learned that Cedrick Wilson is the head coach for Melrose! Interesting!

It has been mentioned!  Where have you been Chargercats?  Lol  Please know that I'm just kidding with you.

Have a great time at the game tonight.

Yea i remember now the post on the 19th! lol  Guess I didn't put it together that he was THE Cedrick Wilson!  lol oh well! Better late than never!

I played against the Melrose team in 1997 season. Didn't get much PT but i remember the abundance of athletes they had! (I played for Covington BTW)

They were loaded that year!

Our Tomcats will be fine tonight as long as they are focused!

I was just kidding.  Glad to know you are a former Charger.  I never lived or went to school in Covington, but I grew up between Brownsville and Covington, and my family did a lot of business in Covington.  I'm a Charger fan as well as a Tomcat fan.  I think that makes at least three of us who support both the Chargers and the Cats...you, @CHARGERFAN, and myself.  BTW, I played football at Haywood, but it was at an earlier time than 1997.

Even though I like the Chargers,  I'll be cheering for the Tomcats on Oct. 22 when Covington comes to town.

It's an hour and a half until kick off.  I've got the best seat in the house, and I'm ready to watch the video stream!  I hope there are no technological glitches.

You could also say this is me living vicariously!  Just your average everyday armchair quarterback.  Go Tomcats!

Anyone at the game?

At times this game became almost insufferable to watch.  It seemed like it was more of a contest between the referees as to who could throw the most flags.  Some of the flags were more than justifiable.  Melrose had at least 2, maybe 3, players ejected from the game. Haywood was more than guilty of a few infractions as well. Thank goodness the Tomcats persisted and got their 5th victory of the season.  Haywood 43 - Melrose 20.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
