Region 3 vs 4 AAAA Playoffs

There aren’t a lot of Chattanooga posters on here but I follow the boards. Not a lot of info on the Chatt teams. I’ll provide some for Region 4 folks.

Upperman vs Soddy: Soddy is well coached. They run a spread offense and throw it around. Don’t know about their defense but the QB is pretty good. Upperman should be able to win this one pretty easily.

Macon vs Chattanooga Central: Upset alert. Central is fast and athletic. There was a 3 way tie for the 1st spot in the region. Central beat Red Bank who won the region. They are big and they are fast. I think Central wins this one. I don’t think Macon will be able to handle their speed.

East Hamilton vs Dekalb/Stone Memorial: East Hamilton has speed to burn. They score a bunch of points. Defense is suspect but they’ve got a few big time players on that side of the ball. East Hamilton rolls either team.

Red Bank vs Dekalb/Stone Memorial: The Lions are hitting their stride. One of the best coached teams in Chattanooga. They are fast and violent. The record doesn’t do them justice. Totally different team then earlier in the year. They roll whoever and move on to round 2 vs the Macon/Central winner. Lions are for real. 3rd round at least where they meet up with EH/Upperman winner.

The Chattanooga region is Red Bank, Central, East Hamilton and then everybody else. There is a huge gap between 3-4. But #3 could have won the region.

you guys will play Soddy. East Ridge is really young this year and will not beat them.

You guys will have to adjust to the speed. Those top 3 teams have guys that can run. They have some size but more speed than size.

Upperman doesn’t lack speed. They will have speedsters all over the field on offense and defense.  Upperman’s problem is discipline and usually their passing defense. We stall a lot of drives due to mental error.

Soddy won’t give you guys problem with speed. East Hamilton in round two will challenge your speed and they can run and throw. Red Bank in round 3 is the most athletic of all but they run the ball better then pass.

You may be able to out muscle these teams though. Not a ton of size in Chattanooga outside of the private schools.

At the beginning of the year, I was surprised Red Bank wasn’t doing well, it looks like they have found their rhythm. I think we will see a lot of good games in the playoffs. Macon Co struggled with our speed. We had a lot of huge running plays against them or we may have got beat.

Macon will be fine in the secondary should they pass. Their problem is physicality on the edges and our line being undersized. Upperman will ride to round 3 at least. Macon is capable of winning, but we have come out flat the last few games. How many WingT teams have the Chattanooga teams played. Sometimes the misdirection will give superior athletic teams issues if they get caught watching the backfield and not reading their keys.

A lot of Wing T down here. Doesn’t mean good Wing T. Upperman will have to play East Hamilton in round 2. They may win but they won’t roll into the quarters.  Upperman played at Chatt area school last week in Walker Valley. They won 28-14. I don’t know the details of that game but Red Bank and East Hamilton would beat Walker Valley. Chattanooga Central may beat them but I’m not sure. I know Fayetteville beat Upperman and got shutout by Red Bank. Chatt Central beat Red Bank so take that for whatever it is worth.

Chattanooga Central will challenge Macon’s secondary. They have 1 very big WR who is very good and another kid who is very fast. If you win that game, Red Bank has a D1 WR and dual threat QB so your secondary may not be as safe as you think. Red Bank lives running off tackle. Their backs are small but fast and do well in space. If you can bottle them up and stop the QB run, you’ve got a chance. Their defense is big and fast. They’ve played Rhea County who runs a good Wing T offense. They lost that game so maybe that is the blueprint in round 2 for Macon.

East Hamilton has a 3-4 big WRs. Like 6’3+. 2 of them are fast. The TE is big but not as fast. They have a good RB and a QB that can throw. They are pretty balanced. Their defense is suspect but they have 1 very good DL and a good secondary.

Macon will matchup with Chatt Central more so than the other two. May have a chance against Central, but the other two should not have a problem with Macon if your scouting report is accurate.

I should say this about Central’s defense. They are big and fast and blitz a lot. If you guys handle the blitz, you’ll win. If not, they just keep blitzing. They live and die on being more athletic than you.

With your Wing T, if you can block them and get a couple of running lanes you’ll do well.

My prediction

Upperman beats Soddy

Red Bank beats Dekalb/Stone

East Hamilton beats Dekalb/Stone

The Central/Macon game is a toss up just looking at records. Macon was rolling along but seemed to have lost some speed of late. If I had to make a prediction on that one I’d say Central given my Chattanooga bias but Macon could come out and hammer them.

Overall, I think MC got the best between the top three from region 3. Central will have a lot of speed and will test our up front with how much they blitz. I think MC will be able to adjust and scheme against their blitz. I think DC may give East Hamilton some fits and could possibly put them on upset alert. I think Red Bank beats Stone. And Upperman will win by as much as they want.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
