Who wins the 2021 Arby's Classic?  What player intrigues you?  This tournament is absolutely loaded this year and can't wait for it to get underway!

My prediction for the finals is Berkmar vs. Long Island Lutheran.  Georgia teams have a history of doing very well in this tournament which is why I am picking Berkmar to win it all.  However, Bearden may shock the world and defeat Berkmar in round 1.  The top half of the bracket is absolutely loaded with Union (defending VHSL 2A champ), Abingdon (defending VHSL 3A runner up), Greeneville (defending TSSAA 2A champ), the aforementioned Berkmar and Bearden...

Long Island Lutheran seems to be the overwhelming favorite in the bottom half of the bracket, although Amarillo has a couple of studs on their lineup.

Players to watch:

Dr. Phillips:

  • Ernest Udeh (6-10, 230) -- offers from Tennessee, Kansas, UCLA, Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor
  • Riley Kugel (6-4, 175) -- Mississippi State commit
  • Denzel Aberdeen (6-4, 175) -- Florida commit

Amarillo:

  • Brendan Hausen (6-4, 180) -- Villanova commit
  • Cade Hornecker (7-0, 210) -- offers from Butler, Creighton, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts

Dorman:

  • Noah Clowney (6-9, 205) -- offers from Virginia Tech, Alabama, Indiana, Georgia Tech, South Carolina

Berkmar:

  • Jermahri Hill (6-3, 160) -- offers from Georgia, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech

Knoxville Catholic:

  • BJ Edwards (6-3, 170) -- Tennessee commit

Union and Abingdon you must be crazy mentioning them after your team Science Hill beat Union last night. I know Dobyns Bennett was afraid of another pounding why they didn’t want to play this year.

Only 75% capacity. Tix are gonna be tough to snag. I have a family member high up in Arbys managment..and he was unable to get passes. They only gave Arbys a small amount of passes and we wound up doing a random drawing. They might need to find a new primary sponsor soon...js

BREAKING:  Bristol Herald Courier is reporting that Myers Park had to withdraw from the Arby's Classic due to COVID protocols.  Twin Springs out of southwest Virginia will be the replacement.  The tournament schedule has also been altered due to the change.  Twin Springs is now in the tournament play in game against Knoxville Catholic Monday at 1 PM.  Union has been switched to the main draw of the tournament and will now face Greeneville on Monday at 7 pm.

Sucks that Myers Park can’t make it. Glad they were able to find a replacement on such short notice, but definitely a drop off in talent. Greeneville vs Union might be a fun match up now though.

I don't see this one being much of a game. Possibly might make a game of it early but Greeneville by atleast 15 to 25 in this one. Science Hill just ran through Union a little over a week ago.

    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
    • It will be interesting to see if the Warren County School District allows this to go before a jury or they settle out of court before going to trial.  My guess is that this case never goes to trial.  If this goes before a jury, they could award even more than the $750K.  I was on a jury where they were asking for 185K and were awarded 1.2 million.  You never know what will happen in that jury room.
