Shift of talent in Jackson

I said on this message board that there would be a shift in where the best players go to school in Jackson after all the coaching changes last year and stated the talent would be split... I was wrong because I said it would take a couple years... It is obvious the best players in Jackson are not at Jackson South Side this year so that shift happened a lot faster than I expected. WOW

I'm sure they will get better and better as the year goes on but they fell way off. Everybody in that district graduated their top players though so they may have a chance when they get to district. North Side should win that district easy. It will be south side and south gibson fighting for second and liberty last.

North Side struggled with Lexington last night. Lexington also graduated a lot of players. I think that region is wide open. Probably going to be North Side with back to back region titles.

i don’t believe SS has any 11th or 12th graders on the team.. I’m sure they will get it figured out by tournament time. They will be a force next couple years

You are 100% right.

From inside the locker room: there isn't a single junior or senior on the '22-23 roster. There are 2 freshman starters.

SS is already getting better as the year goes on.

The game at home against Bolivar on Tuesday Dec 13, 2022 they fought hard and kept it closer than some believed. Example, in the first game at Bolivar on Nov 21, 2022, SS was blown out by 31 pts. In the rematch, they lost by 8.

If anyone can get the most out of a young squad, it's Coach Fuller.

As a longtime supporter of SS, I feel the ceiling for the '22-23 squad is a sub-state appearance. The bottom would be a rd 1 region exit.

The previous bottom happened in the region qtrs in 2019 in an upset loss to Medina. Then they went on a tear with 3 straight trips to the dance, inlcuding an undefeated ranked #1 team that qualified for the covid cancelled 2020 tournament. It culminated with 2 straight state runner ups.

SS will be fine.

I agree with almost everything you said. Coach Fuller is a hall of famer in my opinion. But, some of the other schools in Jackson are better than South Side right now because they have better talent. North Side, TCA, Sacred Heart all have more talent. Their district is North Side's to lose. They bring back the most of any team in the district but they lost their top 2 players also. South Side and South Gibson lost the most. South Side graduated basically everybody and South Gibson lost 3 to graduation and the 2 games I have watched their big left handed kid has been on the sideline in a cast and rumor is he is not going to be able to play this season. So... it is North side and everybody else in that district.

Time will tell how good this young group really is at South Side. But, Coach fuller will absolutely have them ready for post season I'm not surprised if they play in a district Championship and make it to sub state because the other side of the region is also down.

Just not a lot of good teams in that region.

The other district is weak. Lexington, Chester County, Hardin County and McNairy are not very good. Very few athletes.  Few good players but none of these teams will scare anyone

Agree. Chester and McNairy only lost 1 or 2 each so they may be the favorite but I hear Lexington has a good young group. But, you are right, nobody over there is intimidating.  The Region is North Side's to lose also.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
