Let's make a statement and then you guys take a shot at it.... or maybe you will agree with it...

Elizabethton has everything to gain and nothing to lose, for DB it is just the opposite.    Meaning:

  • If DB wins then it's like "Well yeah sure, they are 3x the size, they should win 10 out of 10 times..."
  • If DB loses then it's like "Whoa, big boy 6A Goliath gets humbled by David"

I'm still predicting Elizabethton 21-13 and it could be even more.

BTW, are you Cyclone guys ok with an estranged Blazer joining you for this one?

People like to believe what you printed is true. But the size of the school doesn't matter on a year-to-year basis. Both teams will put the same number of players on the field at once. It all boils down to who has the best players and who has the best coaching. Sure, depth comes into play, but it still comes back to who has the best players on the field. It's a home game and DB will dress every player that they have a uniform for. It will look like they have 90 dressed but probably about 35 will even set foot on the field.  I always use Alcoa as the perfect example. And they do it every single year. This year Elizabethton clearly has more talent and better coaching than DB. If DB wins it will be an upset for sure.

Also, you're just trying to build this game up to be a David vs. Goliath, but you picked the wrong opponent. DB is not a 6A big boy Goliath. They haven't been in that category for the past 20 years. Thats just the truth.

Yeah, what I meant was the average Joe Sixpack walking around will view it as David/Goliath.    Those of us who know HS football know better

Wow, just happy to be back after all these years being away. Nice to see the fire and the competitive nature is still alive in some of the old tribe. Not sure how this DB team will stack up against a really good E-town team.

One thing hasn't changed, Maryville and Alcoa will always be waiting down the road for someone no matter the record ,MUCH RESPECT.

DB isnt strong in any category  but they will hit you though, and if there's a question about heart and stamina don't.  They have yet to play a full 4 qtrs, which I personally blame on the coaching . (We will get into that one after I'm back and established on here)

As far far this band thing goes..please. DB might get smoked in the playoffs down the road by anyone, but If I have to stack up the band in this football conversation,  DB can drill 99% of the bands in the South, including college. .so stop the comparison.  The fans however after halftime is still what cheers the tribe on as usual. Im just glad to be back. Looking forward to some heated HS talk, and maybe after all these years some exposure of some fake no show DB fans.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
