10/6 Warren Co @ Tullahoma

These two teams haven't played since 2014, and the Wildcats have won the last five. Last win for Warren Co. was in 2009.

After opening with a win over DeKalb Co., Warren Co. has lost six in a row by an average score of 44-8. Tullahoma has won three in a row by an average score of 38-11.

This rain should soften the field a little. I expect Tullahoma to get a running clock in the third quarter and clear the bench.

The Wildcats have an open date next week before traveling to Spring Hill.

Kinda wish this was being played in Mcminnville. I remember something about fried baloney at the concession stand.  I do hope the damp conditions don't mess the W.C. Dub "Cooper" field up as we need it to host some playoff games in 4 weeks.  The pioneer bowl has a great atmosphere for a game though. I know their coach is pushing for a new field at the high school off the bypass.

Prophetic: This rain should soften the field a little. I expect Tullahoma to get a running clock in the third quarter and clear the bench.

The fast clock started early in the third quarter when Tullahoma went up 37-0, which was the final score.

Actually, the running clock started on the opening kickoff of the second half with Tullahoma leading 30-0. That is the new margin for the mercy clock - 30 point lead.

The Wildcats held Warren County to MINUS -24 yards total offense. The Pioneers ran 26 plays and half of them were tackles for loss by the THS defense. The visitors didn't cross the 50-yard line until the fourth quarter.

Tullahoma's offensive stats are not that eye-catching because they had a short field to work with almost every drive. The Cats didn't punt, and Grant Chadwick made a 46-yard field goal.

The Cats have a defined path to a region championship, and a great opportunity to host a first-round playoff game.

Spring Hill has all the makings of a trap game. I'm not saying it is, but the characteristics are there. (coming off an open date, Shelbyville looming, fall break, on the road). I expect the Wildcats to be up to the challenge.

I forgot about the rule change. Thank you for the clarification.

  • NFHS Football Rule 3-1-2 (Mercy Rule); Beginning in the second half, if the point differential is 30 points or more, a continuous clock will be used. The clock will only stop for charged time-outs, injuries, and scores. The try will always be an un-timed down. The clock shall start when the ball is kicked on the kickoff. If the point differential goes below 30 points, go back to regular timing rules

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
