in such a power hungry place, would that surprise anyone, the resurrection of a savior to pull the baseball program out of the grave. I'm sure that's been in the works for awhile.

Ok I am really tired of hearing all of the excuses being made about the Cavs season. All of the coaching changes, Coach Hunt's decisions, lack of talent, etc...First off, the Cavs have alot of talent that returned from last season and second of all no one and I mean no one deserves the right to blame anything on Coach Hunt. He prepared our team for the season and has sacrificed more than any coach that I have ever heard of. He cant make the plays on the field or make the decisions for the players. If anyone should take the blame, I will. The lack of leadership has been present and the seniors know this. We will be ready for the challenge ahead of us in the district tournament. But the excuses have to stop because the players have to step up and play the game that Coach Hunt taught us to play. I have never had more respect for any coach than I have for Coach Hunt because his morals and ethics are what make him a winner, not our season record.

I couldn't agree more. Coach Hunt has more class than any coach i have ever seen or that has ever been at Cookeville and has sacrificed more than any coach that has ever been here. Any coach that goes up to a week without seeing his little boys and wife, sleeps in his class room because he can't drive all the was home some nights, has to be very committed to a program to be giving that time up with there own family up. Coach Hunt and all his assitants prepared us in every asspect of the game. It was than up to us to make something of our season. The coaches did there part and we have yet to do ours. Call it what you want. Lack of leadership, lack of repect for each other, no togetherness, letting mommy and daddy pat you on the back and tell you that its ok because its coaches falt, looking at mommy and daddy in the stands with that look because your an All-American and your not starting. The point is that in no way was the season that we have been having Coach Hunts falt so quit dwelling on that. Our seniors are steping up and taking leadership roles and its showing in how we are playing as a team and we are going to take this strait into distict play.

Well it's good to hear some players taking the responsibility for the lack luster play of the CAVS this year. I have an observation-probably not a correct one-but one just the same- the seniors on this years team have been shuffled back and forth for 4 years. There has been no consistency in the program since they have been involved. That is not the present coaching staff's fault. They are here to bring an end to that madness. The senior parents have watched as their boys have been promised, deceived, changed and forgotten over the past 4 years. With that in mind the parents must look out for their own children because up unto this year it's been very evident that no one else will look out for them. So I can understand in some part the way some parents act. What I can't tolerate-is that some parents are more interested in their boys playing than the team winning. When the team wins a game with younger boys and some of the senior parents leave mad then that tells the story of their selfishness and lack of vision for the program as a whole. I believe better days are ahead if we can keep Coach Hunt and his staff in place. I am sorry the seniors and their families have had to endure such confusion over the past 4 years.

Hey Micheal, well our season hasnt gone so well as you might have read on this post, but our team is coming together at the right time, district tourny. As for myself, I hurt my elbow during the first scrimmage before the season, so I havent gotten to pitch during the season and that hurt my scholarship chances. I had heard about some really good JUCO schools that were interested but I had been waiting to hear from Coach Petterson at MTSU. I had talked to him before the season started but I dont know if he knows about my arm, so I will probably walk-on at MTSU and play for him. But good luck on the rest of the season man, and hope that we meet up again sometime.

I just want to say that I have not givin up on the Cavs one bit. You guys are gonna do fine in the District Tourny. You're gonna show everyone what Cookeville Baseball is all about. Even though this season has been rough, I am still extremely optimistic about you guys! Coach Hunt, I have to say you have all my respect. It takes alot of integrity to stick with everything that has happened this season. Most people would have given up and lost all hope, but you have hung in there. I know alot of people appreciate you. CAVS...Go out there and show the other temas NO MERCY in the tourny! Good luck.

I slipped in the game against Sparta and Cookeville and it was not as you said-terrible in all aspects. Cookeville had one bad inning. In fact if I am not mistaken, Sparta scored all their runs in one inning. In that inning several plays should have been made that were not. One by the second baseman, one by the left fielder, and one by the shortstop. Other than that the CAVS looked good. The third baseman, and catcher looked great. In fact the catcher hit the ball well. If I am not mistaken he is a sophmore. Give Sparta credit, they hit the ball when they needed to and did enough to win.

I keep reading these comments about Wayne Shanks and his holding the program back. Where is the evidence of these accusations? Seems comments without evidence is personal grudges and/or sour grapes. I'd like to hear evidence of these reports if they are true.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
