Allen, this all has to do with weight loss. Supposedly, mat side weigh-ins have been discussed at the NCAA level. Support appears to be growing for a variety of reasons. 1. No drastic weight loss by wrestlers. If you step on the scales when you report to the scoring table for your match you better not be dehydrated and you better be ready to go. 2. Improve the image of the sport. Apparently many feel wrestling has a image problem because of weight loss. Moms and dads are not too keen on jr cutting weight. 3. Safety. Dropping 20 pounds, in a short period of time, is maybe not the healthiest thing to do. Decreases the rapid weight reduction deaths to zero. Wrestlers would wrestle at their most comfortable natural weight. 4. Fairness. Since everyone would have to be at a comfortable fighting weight, the guy who cuts the most will no longer be the biggest kid. Wrestlers could concentrate on nutrition, lifting, and technique instead of cutting down.

Those are the arguments, in a nutshell, that I have heard anyway.

Tyler, dropping trou mat side could have the unexpected advantage of increasing the amount of female spectators, thereby propelling wrestling to a revenue generating sport that could ultimately save wrestling. Plus, you guys may get some dates out of the deal. Well, maybe not the MBA guys. (A joke, OK. Lighten up.)

I dont think this is a good idea. It takes all the point out of cutting weight if you are going to have to weigh in with shoes singlet headger etc. then that abviously isn't your true weight. If they did this I would suggest going to freshmen weight. Such as instead of 160...go to 163. But I just dont like the idea period.

cutting weight is just as much a part of wrestling as the match itself. Cutting weight is not just a thing u do to wrestle to a true wrestler cutting weight is a sceince. Wrestling just isn't the same without the weight cutting. Are they going to try and outlaw wind sprints next cuz its to much work on our hearts? you have to draw the line somewhere.

Couldn't disagree more. Does taking a box of ex-lax the night before so you can crap out all of the water in your system and damage your intestines in the process make you a good wrestler? What about sleeping in a sauna wearing a rubber suit and ending up in an ice bath in the E.R.?

Practices like those are NOT and NEVER HAVE BEEN "just as much a part of wrestling as the matcb itself." The fact that some do have this mentality unfortunately does give the sport a bad reputation within the public at large. It's time to step into the 21st century folks.
