Maryville was firing on all cylinders Friday night in the Region Title game. I think it will carry over to Monday and they will beat Greeneville by atleast 10. Although Lee has been taking less shots and scoring less, I think he played the most complete game I have seen him play in a while last night. He has accepted the role as point guard and is getting his teammates the ball because in that starting five, any of those guys can score. Anyways, don't know a whole lot about Greeneville except they have two tall guys or something like that. Should be a great game, good luck to the Rebels, one more till the Boro.

Here is the skinny on the Green Devils.

1-They have a Coach named Billy Duncan. He refused to shake Dobyns-Bennett Head Coach Charlie Morgan's hand after the Region Final Game. That was the 2nd time this season he pulled that crap. So you have a no class coach to start with, and he need some "slim fast" (cases of it).

2-Greeneville Strength is 3 very good basketball players, Matt Malone 6-10, Bradley Blair 6-7, and a 6-3 Guard/Wing, last name is Poore. Malone is very physical inside and can shoot the 3 just as good as most guards. Blair is a great leaper and is a clutch ball player. Poore can get red hot from 3 land and is a real solid basketball player.

3-Greeneville Weakness is their bench. They play 6 players, thats it, thats all. Another weakness is the fact that Malone is foul prone (real bad). He gets frustrated easily and you can draw fouls out of him by getting in his head. When Malone goes out, they go to Blair and Poore exclusively. Malone also likes to dribble for some reason, and he makes turnovers when he does (against good teams).

So run their legs off early and often and lean on Malone, but watch, he will push, fight, elbow,,,,,,, anything.

Greeneville has no one, period, no one that can stay with Lee Humphreys, he should have a huge game.

Good Luck Maryville from Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett

Giddy Up!! :o

Greenville is very pressable!! DB was behind 54-49 with 1:11 to go last night. We hit a jumper to get it to 54-51. Then we pressed 'em, Malone turned the ball over and then drew his 5th foul all in 2 seconds. We hit 2 FT and that made it 54-53. Then we pressed 'em. Got a deflected pass, made a quick drive and dish to Henry Williams and he drained a 3pt to win, 56-54. We scored the last 7 pts of the game. They did not get across half court from the 1:11 mark until :32 sec to go. Greeneville still had a shot to win, but they rushed a poor attempt at a 3pt, that bounced over the backboard. DB ball and we win!!

When you do press them, their favorite play is to inbound the ball over the D to 6-10 Matt Malone. Double team him quick, he gets antsy and starts to loose his cool. You can get traveling calls and or fouls on HIM. The guards are not very good, they hustle, but they are not a good ball handleing team.

Giddy Up!!

DB played and beat Greeneville 3 times this season, Greeneville also lost to Science Hill 3 times, but beat them in the Region Semi's. I watched 4 of those 7 games. I do not recall ever seeing Greeneville go to a Zone Defense this season. They play pretty good defense, but can be beat in transition. As for the guards. The Poore kid plays outside and can shoot if left alone, guard him. None of the Greenveille guards would be considered "fast" and none would be considered "great ball handlers". Press 'em.

Maryville beat DB in the Arby's by 4. The starting Post Player Jarrod Wootten (District MVP/Region Tourny Team) was being disciplined that game and did not get to play at all until the 4:00 of the 3rd qtr. DB beat Greeneville 3 out of 3 times. Maryville beat Science Hill in the Arby's by 5. SH beat Greeneville 3 out of 4 times.

Greeneville will get points on the paint, you can't stop it. But hustle Malone and he will be on the bench with foul trouble. When it comes down to guard play, Greeneville is no match for Maryville, Dobyn-Bennett or Science Hill.
