  1. Yea i'll take your bet. If you have the Rebels= Knox West Rebels, I will take the Red Rebels= Maryville
  2. Just talked to his older brother and Fulmer called with an offer this afternoon . . . bout time the coaches at UT started paying attention to the talent around here.
  3. Tyler Maples of Maryville is the best receiver in 4a. 50 catches, little more than 1000 receiving yards, and 15td's receiving. Returned 3 punts, 2 kickoffs, and 2 interceptions for td also for 22 total td's. When do the all-state selections come out ?
  4. This shouldn't even be debated folks. Maryville will have this one wrapped up by halftime. I think resting Tallent last week and this week (which from what I hear he could play if we were playing a team like Central) is gonna help us bigtime in our playoff run. Not only because it gets him back to 100%, but because Tank Baker is getting an opportunity to carry most of the load and he has played very well. That gives opposing coaches that much more to worry about when analyzing the film. The player that will really jump out at them is Tyler Maples though. Nobody on this years team has been more impressive. He has 16 all-purpose TD's in the regular season ( just missed another punt return fri. night on that 70 yarder he returned to the 3). 16 td's for a WR/DB in the regular season is IMPRESSIVE. The kid is averaging 20.6 ypc (11td on 30 catches). He also averages 20.7 per punt return (2td's in 15 attempts) 27.5 each kickoff return (1td in 6 returns) Lastly he averages 40.5 yards per interception return (2 td's on 2 picks). These stats have been made in the first half of most games and with other teams kicking the ball away from him on punts/kickoffs. He is getting a lot of interest from Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, and Virginia Tech. He has already been on unofficials to UT and Vanderbilt, and is going to florida next week on an unofficial. With our running game being as strong as it is and with a playmaker like Maples I see us having no trouble making it back to the boro to claim what is ours . . . Maryville-48 White Co.- 13 (on reserves)
  5. Nice to get some national recognition for all the boys hard works. Just imagine how high we would be ranked if not for that horrible saturday up in Morristown when we played the sloppiest game i've ever seen from a maryville team(4 turnover in 1st half/6 overall). Lost in OT. We would have a 65 game winning streak right now instead of a 24. Anyways, here is the link . . . http://www.tonybianco.com/high_school_football.htm
  6. Tyler Maples is a threat to take it to the house everytime he touches the ball. On KOR or PR he is dangerous and has already scored one on each. When Burnette starts getting all the snaps his numbers will improve . . .
  7. You all are looking at the wrong week, they were 16th last week . . . look at the current poll. We are 9th
  8. Maryville was moved up from a team to watch to ninth place in the southeast region in the Tony Bianco national poll. The top 8 teams from the southeast are in his top 25 so we should crack it soon . . . congrats rebs. http://www.tonybianco.com/high_school_football.htm
  9. Would be a war between two storied programs . . . would love to see it a week after the state championship games.
  10. THE Maryville Rebels, RB, class of 2001, and 2 state titles.
  11. Maryville High School because of the tradition and how good we are year in and year out. Plus the way the stadium is set up once you step onto that field there is nowhere to go. You got fans on both sides of the field, cedar trees in one end zone, and the weightroom at the other end zone. That is why it's the tougest place to play
  12. Well let me start by saying to Alcoa06 that if you don't know the facts of a story, then don't bother opening your mouth. The counterfeit incident that you referred to in an earlier post was inaccurate. Yes Scott Wilks and Nick Giles SPENT 5 dollars each of counterfeit money to buy lunch at school, but did they make it ? NO!!!! Now that doesn't make what they did OK, because I will be the first to say what they did was wrong and there is no call for it. They also payed their price for it. Not only did they get the one game suspension, but Scott had to have his name all over the front page of the paper and received heck at every game we went to. We had to take our L on our home field without our best player, now this year you get to see what that is like. Even without him we took you all to the last minute and had a soph. RB fumble the game to you all on the 1. I expect much of the same from Alcoa this week. I figure this game to be a war that will stay close until the 4th quarter. Something that i have not seen anyone on here mention is about the 6'6" soph. TE/DE that transfered in from GA. I hear he is a monster that is gonna be as good/better than Hilsher was. I think that he is going to be a difference maker in this game with his blocking and his pass catching skills. He is also a very good DE. Well i'll stop rambling now, just hadn't seen anything on here about him.
  13. If you alcoa fans think that you are gonna score 28 points on the Maryville D, you have a rude awakening coming. This is the same D who when their starters have been in haven't given up a score to OR, DB, or AE . . . and that was without atleast a couple starters in each. Now i'm not getting on here saying that Maryville is gonna beat the crap out of alcoa or anything, or even that alcoa won't score. It is gonna be a battle, but I think that Maryville's depth, front seven on D, Maples, and the RB's are gonna be the difference for Maryville. I see Maples scoring atleast 1 td, and breaking some big gains on punt returns. The RB's at Maryville are just as good as the ones you have over there at alcoa, know that. My prediction is MHS- 24 AHS-14
  14. Who knows who will be the next QB . . . . but they are going to be very fortunate to have plenty of weapons back next year at Maryville. Yes, Maryville does lose it's entire offensive line, but that happens all the time at Maryville and we are blessed to have coach Ellis to reload a group of young men that will be plenty capable. Then you have two great soph. RB's (I believe that Tank Baker will play ball in college one day, I expect the jump from Soph. to Junior year to be like that of Carl Stewart) and they have talented young receivers including Tyler Maples who I believe will have a break-out year next year. Let's savor this title for a few moments . . . . now it is time to get back to work. We have to catch Brentwood for most state titles . . . .
  15. The Melrose Defense was as advertised. I was very impressed with the speed and toughness those guys showed. You all were a very worthy opponent, and we were fortunate to get the win. However, a win is a win. Great job Maryville, you made your whole community proud with a performance that we all expect from you guys each week. You never quit. The D played amazing, and I hope now they get some recognition. Who would have thought it would be . . . Maryville-7 Melrose-6 ? ? ? ?? Great game from two great teams. I guess that makes 5 titles in 7 years. Does that qualify us as a dynasty ?
  16. Maryville 27-13. Maryville is just too balanced on offense and the defense does not get the credit they deserve. For you Melrose fans that do not know because I haven't seen it posted on any of the threads, Maryville lost their starting MLB about 6-7 games in I think to a torn ACL. He was the leader of the defense, but here in Maryville we just have someone else step in and make the plays. That is why we are different than any other school you have seen. A player can go down at any position on either side of the ball, and his backup will come in and pick the slack up. Getting young players valuable playing time is something that GQ has always done, and it shows every time that Maryville has someone go down. No let ups yet, except the struggles in the second half without Tallent and Byner. However, the next week without them, two soph. RB's played their hearts out and showed that there will be no drop off at the RB position for years to come. Good luck to both teams. I hope we have an injury free game, but again Maryville is just too good. Maryville-27 Melrose-13
  17. Maryville was firing on all cylinders Friday night in the Region Title game. I think it will carry over to Monday and they will beat Greeneville by atleast 10. Although Lee has been taking less shots and scoring less, I think he played the most complete game I have seen him play in a while last night. He has accepted the role as point guard and is getting his teammates the ball because in that starting five, any of those guys can score. Anyways, don't know a whole lot about Greeneville except they have two tall guys or something like that. Should be a great game, good luck to the Rebels, one more till the Boro.
  18. His name was Kyle Cruze and I think you are exactly right. Maryville is overall too strong. Congrats to Bearden, I really respect the heart of all the Bearden players, but in the end, without Cruze, the hill is just too big. Maryville's starting five is just too strong overall for Bearden. Look for everyone to contribute for Maryville tonight and I believe Lee will look more to take his shot tonight than he has the last two nights. Also, I just found out that Lee had nine assists last night, and this means that he is atleast making some good out of taking less shots. He is getting the ball to somebody who is open so they can score. [Edited by Rebels01 on 3-7-03 1:41P]
  19. I believe Bearden will have to press to have a chance, but pressing Maryville won't work as well because they have great ball handlers, especially Lee. They had better try something different cause he has lit them up over the last couple years a few times, and tonight should be about the same. I do have a complaint though, watching the last two games I have noticed that Lee has not been working hard without the ball to get open. I have been to many games and the last two are the only time I have ever seen this happen. I don't know if he is trying to let his teammates get more involved and take some of the pressure off of himself or what, what do the rest of you think ? and had anyone else noticed Lee not moving as much without the ball and his teammates not screening very well for him ?
  20. I agree that Maryville was fortunate to win last night, but I don't see how that Clinton team was sub .500. They have a great player in Beaman, and two huge guys down low that took up the whole lane. One huge thing I saw for Maryville that hurt them was free throw shooting. At one stretch in the first quarter they missed 6 in a row. I think this set the tone for a sloppy game from them. I believe the boys will not underestimate a good Oak Ridge team and will be ready for the game thursday night. They will need more balanced scoring and they need to get Lee open. I did not think they did a very good job screening to get him open last night. They better right the ship before Thursday night or the season is over.
  21. I will agree that Beaman won the head to head matchup with Lee last night. The Beaman kid played an incredible game, I was very impressed with him, but the fact that Lee scored only 1 point in the second half can kind of be misleading. He only shot the ball 2 times the whole second half and did a great job of moving the ball to the open man and getting his teammates in position to score. With all the attention on Lee, the rest of his team finally stepped up and I think that is exactly what this team needed at this point in the season. Last Friday night, the other guys couldn't step up, but they did last night. Let's hope this is the start of a trend that will take them to state.
  22. I totally agree, Maryville and Lee have to bring their A games every night from here on out. They cannot afford an off night from Lee or they will lose more than likely, but I believe that Maryville will make it because Lee has made them so balanced this year by playing the point. He still scores plenty, but he has gotten everyone involved this year, with all five starters averaging double figures in points, but again anything can happen at tourney time so who knows.
  23. Maryville is 28-1 with Lee playing and 28-3 overall. He is averaging 21 pts. 5 assists and 4 steals and 4 boards a game. All five of the starters for Maryville average atleast 10 pts. a game, and Lee has played the point this year to help his team out, and look at how well he has played and how well his team has played with him at the point. Anyways, make reservations for the Burro if you wanna see him on the big stage again, that is when he seems to play his best.
  24. William Blount will have an edge because they are hosting the district tournament, but the Rebels are gonna be too tough. The team remembers what happened last year about this time when they played William Blount and I am sure that they are gonna come out fired up. Maryville will press and play the 2-3 zone some. With the long arms of the starters Maryville can cause a lot of problems moving the ball around and if William Blount can't hit threes to take Maryville out of the zone, look for Maryville to pull away by about 15-20, but if William Blount is hitting threes it will be closer. In the end, too much Lee Humphrey. [Edited by Rebels01 on 2-26-03 12:22P]
  25. Maryville was led by Lee Humphrey once again with 29 pts. Andy Tipton added 11. They advance to play William Blount Friday night in the championship game. The govs are playing well, but I guarantee what happened last year during the playoffs (WB upset over Maryville at the Region Tournament) is fresh on the minds of the players from Maryville and it won't happen again. WB will come out and play box and 1 against Lee, but Maryville will have success early and take them out of it. Maryville by 10.
