Tyler Smith has a nice game but saying he's the best sophmore ever out of TN is pushing it (I know you haven't seen every sophmore ever). I havent seen the Delks play but I heard alot of good things. But he isnt that much better than Jamont if he is better than Jamont. I really do think that he's going to be a real good player, but until he developes his outside skills he's still be just another atheletic player.

I just want to start by saying i am a huge Giles fan was at every one of their games this year and think that they are all a group of talented young men but to say that tyler is the best ever is pushing it alot dont get me wrong he is a GREAT ball player but we have to remember he got as far as he did because he was fortunate to have a team full of some of the best in Tennessee right now he has a great game but has alot of room to improve and i am SURE that he will he has a couple of more years to do just that and i have every confidence in him that he will but i think that people that get on here and talk about him being the best ever and as good as lebron are doing nothing but hurting him in the long run people not from here are out for him to make mistakes and just love it when he cant live up to the hype and really noone could live up to what yall post i am sure that one day he will be a great college player and maybe with some improvement will make it to the next level i hope so we will all see but for now lets let him be a great player on a great team and be proud of him and let him grow into whatever happens GOOD LUCK TYLER and all of giles players I LOVE YALL

I watched Penny play a lot during his Jr. and Sr. years. He was a great High School player, as good as there has ever been out of TN. You could tell he had what it took, his skills were undeniable, yet he had a long way to go body wise to be a factor at the next level. His body and skills increased and he has gone on to be a great player.

I watched Mercer play and what seperated him from everyone else at the time was he had an NBA body while in High School. He was good with the ball and a great finisher.

Tony Delk could simply light it up at the high school level. He had as good an outside shot as ever to come through high school. His long arms made him a great defender, and it was evident he would be a long range specialist at the next level with the ability to create his own shots.

I did not see Marion play that much.

Tyler Smith is 16 years old. What seperates him from everyone else is his total game combined with his NBA type body. Every high school kid that has gone pro has the body for it. Tyler is a legit 6'6 and could potentially grow to 6'9 or 6'10. He has a huge wing span, big hands and a freakish jumping ability. His body control for such a big kid at a young age is unbelievable. His ball handling skill for a kid this big are exceptional, he is not a liability handling the ball. He is a slasher, finisher type player. He has a great presence on the court, the game just seems easy to him. He has a quick first step and is quick on the break. He can lead the break as well as he finishes. For a star player who is as good as he is, he is the most unselfish player on the court. Very seldom does he force anything. His only fault is that he is not the most aggressive player on the court. If he wanted and was allowed, Tyler could sign today as a SO with any of the top programs in the country, the UCLAs, Kentuckys, Arizonas, North Carolinas, Dukes of the world. HE IS ONLY 16!

He has a level head, and knowing the family it does not concern me that he might read all the expectations about him. He has a lot to live up to already, and the best things about him is that he is taking full advantage of his God given abilities.

His game as a 16 year old sophomore is as good as to ever come through the high school level. Greatest ever is a debate and he has as good a case as any player listed. In 2 years when he is the next Carmello Anthony, or the next can't miss prospect I will have a little better case as best ever. However I will be the first to tell you that a lot can happen in the 2 years it takes to go from 16 to 18.

The Delk twins are great prospects, and yes they have good perimeter skills, they are not in the same class, today, as Tyler. Nothing against them Gomab, but you are dead wrong on this one and you know it. I really don't know why you ranked them higher. You had Tyler 1 at the first of the year, and all he did during the season was have better stats, was the best player on the best team in the state. Made every All-State, All-Regional, All-District, State MVP that he could make and all the Delks accomplished was a very good season for a very solid, not exceptional team. They are quite simply not the better players of the three.

After this Summer, Tyler will be a five star recruit from all of the services and next season you will not be able to get a seat in the gym for all the College, and yes, NBA scouts.

As usual someone making a post that adds nothing to a debate. You have no idea of my knowledge of high school basketball. I may even be a top level scout for a NBA team. I could even be a past all-american high school player for all you know. If you have something to add to the debate then by all means join in. The type of post you just made adds nothing.

Tyler Smith could also not grow another inch and stay at 6'6. I never grew after my 10th grade year, and it could happen. I hope it doesn't but it could. And a 6'6 player with a mediocre outside shot will never play at a high level.

Tyler Smith is not the best sophomore ever to come out of the state of TN, He didn't even win Mr. Basketball and he is not the best player in the state right now. Let's not over analyze the fact that his team won the state title by 2, not 200. And his team also won another game in the state tournament on a last second shot. Everything I just said is a fact, except for being best player, which is only an opinion. I could say I'm the best player in the state, and it has just as much leverage as saying Tyler is. Dane Bradshaw was named player of the year in the state. And Andre Allen was named Mr. Basketball for AA. Until Tyler starts winning those, it is really stupid to say he's the best sophomore in the state, or in the country.

Do tell, what did this post add to this debate?

Ego, come on man, you know that Tyler or Brian Fisk deserved to win the Mr. Basketball award. Don't get on here and start that ignorant junk about him not being good enough to win the Mr. Basketball award. That is complete garbage. You can sit on here and flap your gums until you are blue in the face, basketballphenoms.com doesnt' lie. They think this kid is the real deal and feel that he should be ranked number 6 or 7 in the nation. Unfortunately, the Delks aren't that good, no matter what Gomab, you, or anyone else says. The fact of the matter is, Tyler is a great player and yes he will probably be the best player in '05. He steps up in the big games as he did in the state tournament. Who cares if GC won by 2 or 200, they won, and Tyler was on that winning team. Where were the Delks? They were either watching from the stands or listening from home.

Once again, tell me something that I said that wasn't fact.

Did I ever say that Allen deserved Mr. Basketball? No, that would be an opinion....I said Allen won Mr. Basketball.

I never said Tyler was good, bad, or terrible...I simply said that until he starts winning Mr. Basketball or Gatorade player of the year, or if his team is hands down the best team in the state in all classes...we should stay away from saying he will be the best senior his senior year. I'm unbias, I don't care how the kid does...but I don't like it when people say things like

He is the best player in the nation OR he is the best sophomore ever...that is stupid, and dumb...Basketballphenoms does not have him as the best player in the country, and if you look, Rousean Cromwell is only 3 back...if Basketballphenoms had him as the number one sophomore, and the number one player in America...then you could open up a debate about him being the best sophomore ever.

There's no way that Tyler Smith could sign with Duke,Arizona,or North Carolina if he could right now. Don't get me wrong he is a good basketball player, but he's nowhere near ready to sign or even play with the big time colleges.

EGO, who said that Tyler is ranked number one in the nation. He is number 6 or 7 in his class. As far as him winning Mr. Basketball, that is not in his hands. He had a great season this year. He averaged 19.6 pts per game, his team won the state title in 2A, he was named MVP of the state, he was named to the All-State first team, but yet, this wasn't good enough to win Mr. Basketball. Give me a break, the Mr. Basketball voting is a JOKE! Clearly, the best player didn't win. It was the player who had the most media in his corner. I really don't think college coaches care if this kid wins some INDIVIDUAL award as long as he plays TEAM ball and lets his actions on the floor prove his ability. Tyler did that this year and look what it got him and his teammates. To say that Tyler isn't as good as Delk kids, because he has better players around him is total BS. I really don't think the Delk boys could win the state championship if it was them and 3 piss poor ball players. Once again, we are back to the word TEAM. What I find so amazing about Tyler is that he is so unselfish. He will dish the ball rather than force a shot. That is the ball player that college coaches want.

I never said that. I haven't commented on his abilities, just said that it is stupid for us to say he is the best sophomore ever. You Giles Co. fans have lost some credibility. Starting threads like Giles Co. "best team in the nation?"

Once again, you can't say how great the kid will become. Andre Allen was ranked 5th when he was like 15...and now hes probably around the top 80-100. Tyler Smith might not ever grow again, he might get hurt, he might just quit basketball...things happen, I had a family member who was told when he was 15 he would be making millions of dollars in the NBA. Well he does something else now :D It's one thing to be upbeat, quite another to be practical...let's just see what happens...
