flip96
How long has South Pitt. and Marion played? Just wondering.
svcfan
77 years. The series record is SP38 wins and MC36 wins and there have been 3 ties. the series was stopped only once in the 50's for 3 years. Tensions were high after South Pittsburg won by a score of 69-0. This rivalry is very intense and the hatred runs deep on and sometimes off the football field.

dragonfan35
York Institute and Livingston Academy rivals in every sport there is!
Guest bouncefan0485
I agree Livingston and York have been rivals for a long while. York students and fans can have some pretty bad sportsmanship. [Edited by bouncefan0485 on 4-16-03 10:11A]
Guest PapaSmurf
Westview and Union City Lewis Co and Loretto Goodpasture and David Libscomb Giles Co and Marshall Co The Lewis Co and Loretto rivalry sticks out in my mind. There has been glass bottles thrown, things wrote with gasoline on the field. Families escorted off the field. And some very hard hitting football!! WARBOSS
South Pittsburg does lead the series 38-36, but there have been 4 ties (1938, 1957, 1961, 1972) they did not play in 1945, 1947, 1948, 1954.
missingthesouth
I will agree with Maryville-Alcoa being the biggest rivalry I've seen. Never seen anything like it. The whole atmosphere is electric. It is like playing the state championship the first week. Even as a fan witnessing those games, I get butterflies before the game. (I can't imagine what the players, coaches and fans go through) Both teams play at a high level each year. Like people have said before in this post, Maryville is expected to win but don't tell the players from Alcoa that. I see very few high school games in Tennessee each year but I have lived in the Northeast US for the past several years and I've missed one Maryville-Alcoa game, the 2000 game when Alcoa beat Maryville. Be thankful that those of you who live in Tennessee can see great high school games on a week in week out basis. They play high school football games on Saturday afternoons here in front of about 200 fans. I brought some buddies of mine who are from the Northeast to the Maryville-Alcoa game in 2001. They couldn't believe the fans, the atmosphere and the buildup. Those same buddies are making the trip with me to the Alcoa-Maryville game this year. I'm sure we won't be disappointed. Scuba7
May not be the biggest, but Hickman Co. and Fairview have a good one in the making.
ClemsonDad
Loudon-Lenoir City. I've been a part of the Maryville-Alcoa game for over 20 years and there is little than can compare to it. But for pure rivalry, pure competitiveness, nothing compares to Loudon-Lenoir City. Those two towns are 8 miles apart yet you can grow up in one town and never even know anyone from the other town. If you wear the red and white, you don't even like Halloween because there is too much orange and black. If you wear orange and black, the sight of anything red is more aggravating than a bull and a matador. If either team goes 1-9, they will be OK until the next season as long as that lone win is against their cross-county rival. Woe be unto you if you are on a team that loses this game. By the way, I went to Loudon and we won all three years I played in high school. I think the scores were 46-6, 48-7, and 45-7. There is no way I will ever forget winning those three. Still, it took me leaving the county 27 years ago to get over it. We actually have a lot of dealings with both athletic programs at my place of employment and I enjoy great relationships with coaches from both schools. But keep in mind, it took most of those 27 years to get to that point and I have old friends that would never speak to me again if they saw me in orange and black with a panther on the sleeve....
