titans1221
The National Federation has adopted a mercy rule for games that teams are leading for 40 or more points. Each state has the option of adopting it or not. Are you for it or against it?

TheLollipopKid
Bad Idea for Middle and High School Basketball
redtdvol
I disagree, I coached in Missouri and we had a 30 point mercy rule in the 4th quarter. At any time the score goes below 30 points the clock stopped. Any other time, the clock was continuous. As a coach, my players are not benefitting from pounding a team by 40 points or more. Neither team benefits. The stronger team can risk injury of their star players, and humiliation of another team. Are we incoaching for the kids, or our egos. A wins is a win wheather it is 1 point or 40+ points. Usually teams getting beat by that much are frustrated and tend to foul more, which may jepordize star or key players. Mercy rule should be 30 points or more not 40+.
by03
absolutely against it...no need for gimmicks in a great sport. only reason it is even pushed is to speed up games. hour fifteen minutes is not too long. Every rule change in the last few years has been designed to speed up the game(i.e.- alternate possesion, no subs until after 2nd free throw.) leave the game alone!!! govolz
Against it...when you have a team of thorough breeds you need to let them run. If someone gets trampled around the track, then put them out to pasture. I guess what I'm really saying is, it's hard to hold good players back when you coach them to go full speed ahead. TMJ
AGAINST IT!!! MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN IN GAMES SUCHAS THIS ON THE SHORT END. THESE GAMES ARE OPPORTUNITIES TO GET PLAYING TIME FOR YOUNGER PLAYERS.
dirtydiamondplayer
I'm against the mercy rule. I think it is stupid for high school sports anyhow. I mean if your team is that bad you should already know it, or the other way around if your team is that good. I think that girls and guys on the high school level should play without having to worry about a mercy rule. Its stupid
swish1
NO MERCY RULE. Let the subs play for crying out loud, is this not how you prepare younger players?
gsj
i would like to see a clinic to teach some coaches on how to win or lose these type games gracefully. i have seen to many coaches who refuse to pull starters when the other team has already done so after the game is out of reach. 8675309
That's right but unfortunately coaching clinics can't teach a coach how to have class about them...
score3
Posted by 8675309:against it...gotta finish what you start good or bad.. I couldnt agree more...
