West TN Scrimmages

Is Chester Co. much improved in their past couple of seasons or is Westview down this year? Or is it a combination of the two? This is the second or so post I've seen where the Chargers were either predicted to lose or lost a scrimmage. And I do recall much talk of the Eagles' improvement last year.

Based solely on what I saw at the CCHS/Westview scrimmage, I'd say it's a combination of both. Westview's got speed, but I was surprised at how small they were up front. Chester County isn't used to having the size advantage on the line, but it sure looked like the Eagles were bigger. That said, though, Chester does have a couple of 300 pounders on the D-line.

I'm trying to temper my optimism a bit, but CCHS really looked good, especially on defense. Of course, scrimmages aren't games, so there's only so much you can take from them; but CCHS looks like they'll be playing a style that just wears their opponents down. They aren't going to have a lot of big plays, but they should churn out 5-7 yards at a time and keep the other team's defense on the field. And I expect most teams to have trouble moving the ball against the Eagle defense - very fast, excellent at pursuing the ball, and they hit hard as well.

Again, this is all based on what little I've seen this fall compared against what I've seen from them the last two years. We won't know for sure what they're made of until August 29.

All this talk about the Chester County/Westview scrimmage. The final score was CC 2 WV 1. With CC scoring off a run by the fullback and a pass to the tightend. WV lone score coming off a short pass to the wide out. That was only varsity. WV freeshmen scored once also with CC freeshmen not scoring at all.

All I have to say about Chester Co. is...expect the unexpected, because it can and will happen with these guys. The past few years CC hasn't been playing to their full potential. They only graduated 3 seniors last year, which didn't hurt them much, and the new seniors this year are hungry for some playoff action. Just by watching them play in the past couple of scrimmages I can already tell that they will be a force to be reckoned with and if you are in their way they will knock you off your block and send you for a ride! Be looking out for CC this year and expect great things! Good luck Eagles and play hard!!
