Stan, I beg to differ. Morristown West,Cleveland and Knox Central can play with anyone. Greeneville,Powell and Tennessee High arent bad either.

In 2001 Morristown West was every bit as good as Hillsboro. Morristown West was very good in 2001. They beat Maryville that year.

In 1998 Maryville had to beat Central and Elizabethon. Both those teams were much better than Whites Creek. Elizabethon and Maryville were the best 2 teams in 4A that year.

In 2001 Maryville had to beat defending 5A champion Red Bank with Gerald Riggs and Morristown West.

In 2002 Maryville played a hot Cleveland team on the road that had just beaten Knox Central.Powell was a good team and so was Morristown West. West had 2 losses and both of them was to Maryville.

Since 1996 someone from Maryville's region has gone to the state title game.

Just so everyone knows ---a team from the east region 3-4AAAA has played in the state championship game every year since 1991 and has won in 4 out of the last five years. So how can you say that the teams from the east are not that strong. Also the past 2 years AAA has had east TN teams playing in the championship game. Won one and lost one, but when you talk about AAA AND AAAA east Tn has some pretty good teams. Ask Hillsboro, RedBank, Memphis EAst, Ridgeway, and the many other teams that have had to play the teams from the east. I am not saying that the teams from the east are any better, but it is hard to argue about AAAA. Maryville, Knox-Central, Morristown West, Greeneville, Elizabethton, Cleveland, Red Bank, Knox-Halls, Knox-Powell,or even Austin-East, and Knox- Fulton in AAA.

Seems to me the WEST 4A region has the most balance competitively. Several of their area schools fight for the region crown.

When we went to play orange Mound last November ther emust have been 10,000 local fans to see the game -- and many more watching from the street who couldn't get a ticket. Simply amazing.

So yeah, Memphis Melrose and Memphis East (and also Trezevant) seem to be trading trips to the 4A semifinal games the past several years. They are a formidable obstacle for the Middle TN school every time, if not in the title game itself.

However, Maryville dominates the East and Hillsboro the Middle. Constant blowouts with a few close games here and there. Hillsboro hasn't lost a regular season game in over 3 years and I'm guessing Maryville has performed similarly.
