I'm not sure what team your daughter plays on however I would guess McMinn Central, since that is the only team Hixson has beat this year. I was at that game and neither team played well at all. I have been involved in soccer for over twenty years and the grass had nothing to do with the score of that game. And to answer your question, no, as far as grass height. However I do agree the grass was high, however a well prepared team should be able to over come that.....

Yes,, my daughter plays for McMinn Central,, I have never seen grass that high on a field before. When we played in a tourny at Hiwassee Collage(in a farm field) it

was lower than the school field in Hixon. We also have played at Cleveland and

at Boyd Buchanan, both of these fields were mowed close. Central's field is mowed

short. Again I was surprised by the field in Hixon, and it did not seem to be the "standard".

The advantage would go to the more unskilled team since the skilled team could not really use their skills effectively.

I disagree with the above statement. All it does is slow the game down. Now if one team is much faster then the other yes it could very much egual things out some. As far as the Hixson and McMinn game there was a lot of heart on both sides, however skill was hard to find on either team. Both teams from what I hear are very young. Home field advantge can be gained at every game from holes in the field to no grass, tall grass, fans, and etc. etc.. I'm still a firm believer that a well prepared team will over come tall grass and all the other obstacles of playing away. Soddy Daisy apparently had no problem with the tall grass they shut Hixson out 0-8, and I think Grace beat them at home 1-4, they apparently had no problem using their skills effectively, and I'm sure Ooltewah want either next week at Hixson. I do agree with you on slowing the game down, however as far as advantage going to the more unskilled team, no.......

i do feel that the grass can have an affect on the outcome of a game but not to the extenet of making the away team lose... it may affect their play early in the first half but after that its not that much of an issue. my guess si that mcminn central and hixson are probably about equal and even had they played at a different site the game would still have been close. but yes as a matter of fact there are standards for field conditions but hixsons just happens to fall into the category of "cut longer" which means they want to slow down play.. not illegal, but not condusive to good soccer either, then again their guys team just plays bunker style soccer which is not illegal, but should be since its such a pain in the ace to go against

    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
