Golf Courses in Middle Tennessee

Would like to revive this topic to let area golfers know which courses are in the best shape at a given time..

He's my 2 cents worth...

WillowBrook (Manchester)---Played there off and on all summer. GREAT SHAPE.

Greens are firm and fairly fast, fairways are really

good...Rough is thick and tough to get out of...

Bunkers are good, but a few have lots of rocks in

them...

McMinnville CC----------------Played there twice...Excellent overall shape back

earlier in the summer but haven't been there since

June...

Bear Trace (Tims Ford)------As of two weeks ago...the fairways are awesome, the

greens are good (could be faster), and the rough was

so-so (being de-thatched and overseeded)...Overall

good shape...

Sewanee Golf Club-----------Decent amount of rain has kept the fairways in decent

shape, but the greens are still mushy and slow.

Bunkers are in terrible shape and not raked regularly.

AEDC Golf Club(Tullahoma) Course was good overall during the Tullahoma City

Tournament several weeks ago... but, recently,

several greens have been taken over by "crow's

foot." They have moved to temporary greens on 4 or

5 holes... Bermuda fairways are good shape. They

also have pretty good practice facilities...

Alright. Everybody pay attention. There are several courses in Middle Tennessee worth playing, but not all of them are in good enough shape to bother. Of the one's that are, The Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston Springs is by far the best. Greystone in Dickson is a distant second. I guess from there they all kinda bunch up. Willowbrook(Manchester), Saddle Creek(Lewisburg), Indian Hills(Murfreesboro), Windtree(Mt. Juliet), The Bear Trace at Tim's Ford(Winchester), Springhouse(Nashville), Pine Creek(Mt. Juliet), Montgomery Bell State Park(Dickson), Nashboro Village(Antioch), Henry Horton State Park(Chapel Hill), Five Oaks(Lebanon), and eventually Old Fort(Murfreesboro), are all in great shape. Look out whenever Old Fort opens in November. It will be a completely different golf course, and will most likely host a couple of TGA Amateur events in the near future. Now, the next tier of golf courses (you know, the one's that are decent, but little known) goes as follows: Blackberry Ridge(Deason), Champions Run(Rockvale), Hunter's Point(Lebanon), Cedar Crest(Walter Hill), White Plains(Cookeville), and Harpeth Hills Municipal(Nashville). As I said, these courses are not very well-known, but definitely well-worth playing. Enjoy!

Good luck to all of the local high school players. Good luck Pettitt. Call me if you still want me to caddy for you on tour! You kow who I am. I think you call me "coach" in case you forgot. :D
