And I unemotionally think Franklin is the better team and that they can win by 10+ but the truth is, that's just not gonna happen. Biggest margin of victory will be 7, but likely less than that.

The Tennessean made their pick and suprise suprise, they picked Brentwood to win 24-21. Well, they're entitled to their opinion. And it was a nice write-up on the game. Here it is:

Brentwood-Franklin may boil down to kicks again

Jeff Lockridge

Staff Writer

There is no middle ground for a high school placekicker.

He is meant to loiter in the shadows, making his name known only when the game is on the line.

Make the winning kick and his name is decorated with headlines. Miss it and his name is mysteriously filed on the team’s liability list.

Three of the best kickers in the Midstate will be at Brentwood High tomorrow night. Two of them missed crucial kicks the last time the Bruins (10-1) played Franklin (9-2), in Week 7 of the regular season. That left the door open for the third, David Campbell, to play hero in the Rebels’ 24-21 overtime win.

“I knew it would come down to me or the offense making a big play,” said Campbell, Franklin’s field-goal specialist. “I just waited by the coaches. On third down they asked me if I wanted it on the left hash or if I wanted it moved to the middle. I said give it to me here.”

Campbell’s 23-yard boot made the difference. With these two region rivals so evenly matched, it could easily come down to deciding kick once again in Round 2 of the Class 5A playoffs.

David DeFatta, who missed three point-after attempts for Franklin in that first meeting but has since made 15-of-16, and Kyle Willis, who hit three extra points in that first meeting for Brentwood before missing a 26-yard field goal in OT, both desire another shot with the game at stake.

“Going into this game as a kicker, you think back to it but you have to block that out,” DeFatta said. “After the first one got blocked and I missed the second, it gets into your head a little bit. But we’ve been kicking well since then so our confidence is high.”

“I don’t stress over kicks I miss,” Willis added. “I approach every game exactly the same, and I don’t freak out when the game is on the line. I like pressure situations. It was very uncharacteristic of me to miss that one. I know my kicks are going through, whether they actually do or not.”

Before it comes down to that game-winning kick this time, both teams will try to impose their wills. Franklin will not be able to run all over Brentwood’s defense the way it did against Hunters Lane last week, and needs some more big plays from QB Matt Solima and his nimble receivers.

By the same token, the Bruins and QB Thomas Welch cannot sit on a small lead just because their defense has held the last four opponents to a combined 20 points.

“They have a lot of speed and we’re going to have to match it,” Brentwood cornerback Kellen Moore said. “We have to make their offense one-dimensional. We’ve done that to them the last two or three games. Then we just need to cut down on their big plays.”

“It will be the most exciting game I’ve ever played in,” Solima said.

“What Welch and I each have to do is to play the way we are coached, make good reads and don’t make any turnovers.”

Brentwood has been the more consistent team since the last meeting and beat Franklin at home in the playoffs last year. If defensive end Nick Fossett can return from an injured ankle and perform well, the Bruins still hold the edge.

Our pick: Brentwood 24-21.

Don't tell me last year's playoff game still isn't on the mind of the Rebels!

Prove 'em wrong Franktown!

One of these days Franklin will get a newspaper, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen any time soon, to many businesses in Brentwood, advertising in both rags!

I'm OK with Lockridges prediction, seems to me he picked Brentwood last time as well.

Relative to the talk that because Franklin won last time, the edge go to Brentwood because a team can't beat a good team twice in 1 season. Yet had Brentwood won, we would have heard about the dominance and the "It's in your heads that you can't win" talk. Either way the Brentwood faithfull would find a slant to push Big MO to their sideliine. (Just as Franklin faithfull would do)

If you have $7.00 in your pocket Friday Night - you would be hard pressed to find a better way to spend it - Be There!

This game could be a classic!

ok you wanted a reply from LINCOLN COUNTY. here it is franklin and brentwood are two of the best teams in the state. it will be a hard fought ball game. both have the means to win the game. as for who LINCOLN COUNTY is rooting for it doesnt matter we to have to win three more games before we meet either one of them.not to mention germantown they too have a good team. one of you two has to get past them too. I agree with big poppa one game at a time .you cane not look over the team you have that week. Oakland prove that to be true we may have beat them by 51 points the first game but this was a differant Oakland team. maybe our team relized that. thatyou just cant expect to win. you have to go and win the game on the field. the game between Franklin and Brentwood should be the best game in the state to watch. but for me i will be at the PITT. i wouldnt even want to try and predict the outcome of this game. they are match so close to another. GO REBELS GO BRUINS IF LINCOLN COUNTY MAKES IT THEY WANT THE BEST TO BE THE THERE GO FALCONS

I'm OK with it too; it's very logical. However, that doesn't mean I like it and that I don't want our Rebels to go out there and prove him, 81% of those Big Ones people, and anyone else who has picked Franklin to lose. You've got many against you Rebs but you have plenty of great fans that are behind you all the way. GO REBELS!

Ouch! I think that DC had some great talent, #35 Quinton Primm was awesome, as was #21 Grant Allen. And they beat FHS, not at its best, but certainly not at their worst! I did walk away thinking that if one of the two of those players had a flat performance, then the entire team was vulnerable.

I think that's why FHS impressed everyone last week, Solima and the passing game were flat and the middle of the line said, no hitch passes, no bubble screens, no throwing upfield, lets just take it between the guards and win it smash mouth style! Despite Hunters Lane having a MUCH larger line, Franklin found a way to win.

Franklin and Brentwood are both very good at "finding a way to win." People have called it luck, but it has nothing to do with luck, it has to do with believing you can, and that comes from individuals with high self-esteem developed by good coaching! Regardless of the score, both of these programs have developed a lot of kids who "Think They Can"

BDD, I am not about to stray too far off topic in the response to what you said, but I have to say one thing. You show a great tendency to throw in the one cancer of every post. You stated that Dickson beat Franklin while Franklin was not at its best. Why do you struggle to give credit where it is due? Let's be honest, Dickson manhandled Franklin up front all night. That is not a case of being "off", that is merely a case of getting whipped by a more physical team. The Dickson coaching staff says that Brentwood is a more disciplined football team than Franklin and that will probably earn them the victory Friday night. Also, there is another factor that will have a huge impact on the game------28 degrees. Brentwood sat in the stands during the DCHS and Franklin game and watched Dickson pull thier guards and backs and whip Franklin. They had a huge learning experience during that game that will prove to be beneficial Friday. As for the weather, it is difficult to throw and catch when temps are below freezing. This factor will drastically effect both teams. So here is the virdict; whichever team establishes the run will win the ballgame. I believe that Brentwood may be under a mis-interpretation of the ability of the Franklin run game. They are very capable of running the football if they will just do it. They become too impatient and stray from the run too often. A run game has to be established, it cannot be thrown into the mix. Also, has anyone ever tried to kick a football when it is cold outside? If it comes down to anything it comes down to the run game and the kicking game.

Prediction: Brentwood 14 Franklin13

P.S. BigDogDaddy, Primm was not even a running back until week 7. Oddly enough we were 7-0 when he was moved there. Want to hear an amazing stat? He was moved into the backfield week 7 and finished the season with 631 yards and averaged 9.3 yards per carry. You are right that he was important to the success of the team but Dickson was not a two man team. Ask the Frankiln front 8 if they were.

sounds like a frustrated DC fan. Probably need a new thread, but what happened to DC at home against HHS?

As for the Passing game of Franklin, the cold will affect FHS's passing game far less than the Brentwood passing attack, simply due to the better quality combination of QB/Reciever residing at Franklin.

You are exactly right faninthestand, the entire community is devistated and frustrated. I do not know what happened against Hendersonville. They are not that good and they beat us fair and square. It was definitely not the same Dickson team that came to Franklin and played. In addition, Dickson had the ball three straight possessions in the Hendersonville redzone and did not score. I guess that is why we play them.

I believe Franklin has more talent in the skilled positions to beat Bentwood again. Remember, It is difficult to beat a team twice in one season. Brentwood will win the battle upfront and this will keeep the game close. With Brentwoods expierence and its mental edge over Franklin I will have to say Brentwood will pull out the victory.

Big Poppa, hope that DC has another strong run next year for the fans.

Apollo

Examples of teams winning multiple times in the same year: 1999 Titans over Jaguars (three times), 2002 Bruins over Rebels in Football, 2003 Boys Soccer, and Volleyball (lotsa years), Rebels over Bruins in Girls Soccer (Lotsa years), 2002 Rebels over Bruins in Boys Soccer (three times).....

It can happen, it may happen again!

These teams are both very talented, and who won what when does not matter. Their is no mental edge that either team has on the other, both have their own idea of revenge (either for the previous meeting or from previous years), and I doubt either team or coach is going into the game overconfident.

Most of the noise leading up to this game is being made by the press or by us fans. The only noise that matterrs is when the whistle blows and the pads start talking!
