Huntingdon/Lipscomb

Jeremy Peppas is the only sportswriter who put faith in Huntingdon, he is the only person who has any sense that works for a paper. Dan Morris should be kicked in the mouth for his last few predictions. He doesn't know as much as he lets on, maybe Peppas will take over Fearless next year. Dan Morris doubted them all the time, and now he is having to print the good stuff. It is funny reading it all. What I don't understand is everyone is calling the Championship Game and upset, an upset occurs when a weaker team beats a powerhouse or better team like K State and Oklahoma. It is not an upset when you walk in the place with a team three times as good as the other, play like you are that good, give them the most embarrassing beating of their programs entirety, mainly because of the crap they talked. Huntingdon didn't upset Lipscomb, they beat the crap out of them plain and simple.

BigH....don`t go overboard. DL was the defending state champion and were undefeated. They have earned the respect they have. Huntingdon has now earned their`s as well. No need to talk smack about lack of respect. Just sit back and enjoy being state champs because the Huntingdon performance Friday night is enough said. Thanks for bringing that 2A ball to West TN.

How would you not call that game an upset? Lipscomb was defending state champion. Lipscomb was undefeated. Lipscomb was ranked number 1 in state. Huntington wasn't any of those things. Nobody I know picked Huntington to win. NOBODY. It was an upset, plain and simple. But it was a great one so congratulations. Ya'll deserved it.

I don't think this game was an "upset", but rather an "awakening". This game exposed once again, all these so called experts who keep forgeting the game is played on the field and not in the newspaper. An "upset" is when a underdog team beats a favored team once, but probably couldn't do it again. If Huntington & Lipscomb played 10 times, Huntington would win 10 times.

anybody disagree ?

YOU GOT THAT RIGHT. 10 OUT OF 10 EASILY. AND SO WOULD MILAN. LEWIS COUNTY WOULD BEAT THEM ABOUT 7 OUT OF 10. MCKENZIE WOULD BEAT THEM 6 OUT OF 10. CHESTER COUNTY WOULD BEAT THEM 5 OUT OF 10. MARK HOLTON YOU NEED TO WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. :D

all i have to say is that i was completely shocked at the outcome of this game. at one point, i think 92% were picking lipscomb to win this game on coacht. huntingdon, you guys definitely played with enough heart for a team at any classification. hats off to you guys.

and also, to the tailback from huntingdon--can i get your autograph? c'mon, SIX touchdowns? that is insane!!!!

actually the jackson sun is jealous of all the good programs outside of jackson. when a good jackson team gets beat they are really nice in the headlines and try to hide the article then when a jackson team plays a weak team and kills them the writers put it on the front page and give the loser a brutal verbal beating

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
