blackandgold
Tonight at McMinn a student was keeping the clock for McMinn while students were also keeping home and visitors books. The Central boy keeping the book signaled for one of McMinn's boys had 5 fouls and the clockkeeper motioned five and the boy set down. His parents came unglued in the stands and turned out he only had 2 fouls. So the refs stopped the game to settle it. Then seconds too much off of the clock in a tight game, possession arrows wrong, etc. When the visiting team began to complain to the refs the McMinn coach went over to tell the visiting fans to quieten down, instead of running the clock himself. Mcminn had 4 coaches in the coaches corner watching knowing the student was struggling but left him there. Overtime, more problems with seconds off of the clock and refs having to settle it. Should coaches allow students to keep the official books and clock in any games? This one added a lot of tension to a big rivalry game anyway. What's the verdict? splainshornet
I realize it might be hard to find a willing and capable adult, but under no circumstances should the official book be kept by a person that is under the age of 18 or a student. XtremeLoco
I see people under the age of 18 doing it all the time. And I've seen no problems, maybe the student really did have 2 fouls. I mean come on if you are going to cheat like that atleast make it 4 fouls.
TheMighty
just as long as they arent the dirty cheating clock keepers that left my Morgan County brothers out of the football playoffs, i dont care who keeps the clock

mnewballer21
blackandgold, what was the score of the game?
JMo
I see no problem with is as long as they know what they are doing. The kid in this game doesn't seem like he really knew how do to it.
oldtimeballer63
It's not a very good idea to have students keeping the clock. Of course, sometimes it's not good to have some adults running the clock, but it's a job that has to be done and someone has to be willing to do it. I really don't know what the solution is to this dilemma -- other than to have someone do it that has no ties with the competing schools. Dawg05
I say let 1 of the 3 refs do it. Having only 2 refs officiating would make the games a heck of a lot better anyway and the refs would still get the same pay.

JMo
From the games i've seen this year, we need 3 refs.
