When is this game taking place? It won't be able to top last year's thriller at the Greer which pitted Fairview vs. Page for second place in the district. That game Ben Wilshire become the only high school player to hit one out at Greer, by hitting a monsterous shot off the guitar.

The Lewis Co. vs Page game at Greer Stadium starts at 4:00. The Sounds have a game at 10:30 AM according to their website. Maybe Coach Sharp will get down on his hands & knees and push the ball from the mound to home plate with his nose - lol.

He is not the only high school player to hit one out at Greer. When I was 15 and playing in the NBC World Series held at Greer, Brad Cobb from Goodpasture put one out underneath the guitar handle. If a sophomore in high school can do it...then I am sure the guy you are talking about is the only one to do it.

Well I am just going by what I was told by Sounds officials and Nashville papers, so I think I will trust the Sounds officials. Trust me the shot Wilshire hit was amazing, It was still rising when it hit the guitar. Do you remember that Pageman? That was an awesome high school baseball game that night.

I remember it well, Gerry. I knew by the sound of hit, the velocity of the ball leaving the infield, and the roar of the crowd, that it was gone. It was one of the strongest HR's that I have ever seen hit. I thought it was the only HR hit out of Greer by a high school player, but maybe I'm wrong. Besides hitting the HR, Ben Wilshire was also the winning pitcher that night. It certainly was a good night for him & Fairview.

Oh yeah it was one of my top three moments of high school baseball, ranking up there with the district championship in 2001, and beating brentwood in 10 innings last year. It was great, I hope both teams have as memorable time there as me and my teammates did.

Just to confirm that Brad Cobb, Goodpasture '04, hit a home run out of Greer Stadium in the summer of 2001. The ball was over the fence about 1 ft. beneath the neck of the guitar, crossed the road beyond the outfield fence and was retreived from the embankment along the railroad right-of-way beyond left-center.

 

Granted, it was not a high school game. It was a summer game -- the National Baseball Congress 15U World Series. Brad was 15 years old at the time. It was the summer between his freshman and sophomore year. Brad made Goodpasture's varsity team as a freshman and was Goodpasture's starting shortstop/pitcher as a freshman. So, he was a "high school player" -- officially, a sophomore.

 

While I don't represent the Sounds, I was watching the game from the pressbox and was serving as the official scorekeeper for the game and the series. It's in the book.

Well then Ben Wislhire has hit the longest homerun by a high school player at Greer Stadium and I highly doubt anyone will ever hit one that far again.

i am really lookin forward to the game tonite. lewis is finally startin to put it together eventhough we used watson last nite he is still available if needed but wills is starting the first game and sublett starting the second. good luck tonite to both teams
