captwillie
Std get a clue, I build fields for a living. I really dont care how many fields you have played on. You are the only one comparing them to Warner Park. Who said that Warner Park had good fields.
std
Did you build the field at Greenbriar? Warner Park has been the site of the State tournament for at least 10 years prior to the Memphis years. They do not compare to the fields at Greenbrook.
Opperman
Opperman, as far as the hotels, after not being able to find rooms from the "list" the sports authority hooked us up with the Best Western at Third and Union. What a great place. I was approached by at least 5 panhandlers every time I left the hotel. That wa the only real problem as we were close to Beale's Street and the Rendevous and I ate my weight in ribs. I lved for two years from 74 to 76 in the Goodman House on Manasses Street and the neighborhood was pretty rough then. Yeah, that's one annoying thing about downtown, but it's not hard to say no, repeat no, and keep walking. Key being to keep walking. Of course, if you used to live on Manassas, you probably know that already. Yeah, gotta love the Rendezvous. Even though I'm not big on ribs...have you had the sausage plate? Holy cow, that's a phenomenal plate. And it's cheaper for me than someplace like Dixie or Applebees.

westtn2004state
Its good for the state championships to move every once in a while. I realize that its easier for it all to be in Middle TN. But doesnt that give a yearly advantage to those teams who live in middle tn? Im glad it wa sin memphis. I played in some awesome ballparks and ended up playing at Autozone Park where the redbirds play. I personally want to thank the TSSAA for having it in Memphis. It was an expierence ill never forget. iconu2
Opperman, I to believe the fields were as good as you could get with the rain issue. I have no problems with the fields as some other people have. I will agree with STD that we have played on alot worst. I appreciate your comments about some of the lying that occured, and I realize this is not your fault. But like everything in life; someone is going to get the blame. Please read my post in the " Article in the paper post". I wrote a response to that thread before I saw this one. I know you guys are trying to do a good job, the problen is you have a high standard to achieve when compared to Chattanooga.
QueenBee
Seems to me...that if things were so bad for softball...wouldn't this be an issue that Title Nine would be interested in?
ERA
Hey Queenie, What do you think about my proposal on Warner Park rebuilding scheme under "Article in Todays Paper"? Does anyone have a better idea? Proposed Warner Park Rebuild
QueenBee
Hey Queenie, What do you think about my proposal on Warner Park rebuilding scheme under "Article in Todays Paper"? Does anyone have a better idea? Proposed Warner Park Rebuild I like it ERA...it would work a lot better than it did a few years ago when Smith Co was lucky enough to get there...it was pretty bad then... I think that TSSAA should take some of the money they take in...and build a complex for all sports...have a great gym with swimming pool and several basketball courts, a wonderful football stadium surrounded by a beautiful track...a softball and baseball complex...an awards arena where ALL sports would go to receive their trophies... When these facilities weren't being used for State events...they could rent them out... and probably make enough to run them for the year...no doubt the State events themselves would generate enough money for upkeep... I don't think this is a proposal that is out of the question... I think teams expect a bit of travel when they make it to the State level...most welcome it...but expecting teams to travel 8 or more hours...and expecting kids to choose between playing or participating in graduation is a bit much...I know that hard choices have to be made all the time...but I don't think a kid should have to choose between playing and graduation... Please tell me that the softball players did not receive their awards in a white garbage bag with no ceremony involved...that's just not right...these kids have worked hard, sacrificed a lot to get to that level of play...and to be handed their awards in a white garbage bag is inexcuseable...please tell me that didn't happen... iconu2
Queenie, You go girl!!!! That is my point also. If you were not in Memphis, you were not able to see the things they did not do for the athletes. Maybe we have been spoiled by the way Chattanooga runs Spring Fling, and how the entire city gets on board. I just don't see this out of Memphis. ERA & you have some good ideas, but everyone agrees that it may need to be moved around the state every few years. Good you hear from you, you have been quiet for a long time. Why should the TSSAA build their own complex, QB? I can see it for softball, they don't sponsor swimming. But why build a baseball complex for one week? Would it really be used the rest of the year? Just as important, would it be better that way? Would it be fiscally responsible? Building a complex for basketball would just be dumb, IMO, it wouldn't be better than any number of other facilities available, it would hemorrhage money the rest of the year if they actually built enough seats for the state tournament. One week, or two weeks for basketball, isn't even close to enough to justify building basketball or football facilities. And by the way...no matter where you put the Fling, somebody has to miss graduation. In Chattanooga, our athletes did, and I'm sure Dyersburg, Union City, etc. had to choose also. If it's in Nashville, the northeast corner would still have to miss graduation. And iconu, please tell me about some of those things Memphis didn't do for the athletes. QueenBee
Since they don't sponsor swimming...they won't have to pay for chlorine... Why build the complex?...End all the debate about where it's going to be...make sure that it's done correctly...all in one area...people can go from event to event.... And tell me...how were the awards presented to the softball players?...Were they in white garbage bags or not?...Someone mentioned that...but no one will say if that's what really happened or not...Please tell me that isn't what happened...
