Goodpasture FB?

There's a bit of a tricky interpretation involved. Goodpasture comes out, after the multiplier, as the very smallest 3A school. The rule states that a team cannot be moved up more than one class because of the multiplier. Goodpasture's enrollment of 370 is below the projected 1A cutoff of 395--but it is above the 366 that, if I have it figured right, would be the cutoff if no school were being multiplied. The question, therefore, is which figure is considered the reference for determining Goodpasture's natural classification.

(The question does not arise with Notre Dame--their non-multiplied enrollment puts them well within even a multiplier-less 2A, so they will not be forced to 4A.)

Have the classification breakdown changed for 2005-09? The old breakdown was:

5A - Schools with an enrollment of 1,348 and above

4A - Schools with an enrollment of 961 to 1,347

3A - Schools with an enrollment of 675-957

2A - Schools with an enrollment of 364-673

1A - Schools with an enrollment of 361 and under

According to the TSSAA web site(http://tssaa.org/Classifications/20052009enrollments.htm) with the 1.8 mulitplier Goodpasture's enrollment is 666 for 2005-2009, which would keep them in 2A, unless the school decided to move up.

Those old breakdowns don't mean anything. They divide the number of schools by 5 and have an even number in each class. If you got 300 teams you have 60 per class, if you have 296 you have you have 60 in 1A and 59 in the other four classes. The 60th school from the bottom would be in 1A, 61 would be in 2A, even if they were only one apart in enrollment.

Again, we won't know for sure until all appeals are decided and all the teams moving up are placed. However, just looking at the current #s the cutoffs will be somewhere in the following neighborhoods:

4A/5A - somewhere between 1348 and 1361

Overton 1348

Munford 1351

Maryville 1351

Glencliff 1358

Oakland 1361

Brentwood High 1361

3A/4A - somewhere between 956 and 988

Fulton 956

Anderson Co 964

Brainerd 967

Notre Dame 977

Memphis East 984

Jackson Northside 986

Whites Creek 988

2A/3A - somewhere between 644 and 681

Loudon 644

York Institute 644

Fairview 645

Gibson Co 647

Goodpasture 666

Cheatham Co 667

Frayser 667

Grundy Co 676

Chester Co 681

1A/2A - somewhere between 370 and 411

JCS 370

Cascade 375

West Carroll 379

Fayette Acad 390

Union City 391

Hampton 393

Cosby 395

Peabody 399

North Greene 407

Alcoa 411

Remember, there are several new schools competing in football and several exisiting 1A schools have started football programs. Also, the majority of schools have enrollments that are steadily going up. Therefore, the cutoff #s will change every time we realign.

That's awful! '666' beside Goodpasture CHRISTIAN School. :D Even rounding doesn't help when 1.8 and 370 are used. Reckon an appeal based on math would work? Something just ain't right! :D

Of course Goodpasture is in AA.  Do you really think that they would move up to AAA and continue to play David Lipscomb.  Now GP can play for a state title in AA, Lipscomb can play for a state title in AAA, and they are no longer cutting each others throats.

GP is considering AAA. The school administration will make that decision with what is best for the program. I believe the coaches are wanting to move to AAA.

If Goodpasture stays in 2A, then they will probably be with the other private schools in Nashville and be in the same district and regions as in all other sports. If they choose to play up in 3A, then the TSSAA will do everything in their power to keep them and Lipscomb in the same region. The only question will be is: Who gets to deal with them: Region 4-3A or region 5-3A? Either way, a lot of people will be upset. It should be interesting.
