YouGotStuck17
I think Cross Country looses alot of there runners who could be great because it mixes with football season What do you all think?
runnerboy
Not any from our school.. I think the biggest loss comes from soccer and track being in the same season..
coachlj65
I've had several cross country runners that started out in football, then quit to run and turned out to be some of my better cross country guys. but the biggest losses come with girls soccer in the fall and we lose many boys from track to spring soccer. steepler113
LaVergne had a guy lsat year that did both and was varsity at both. I'm not sure if it was Carroll or Hall. But both were decent runners.
coachlj65
Kingsport Dobyns-Bennett had a guy years ago, Barry Frye, who was the starting quarterback and their # 2 cross country runner.
YouGotStuck17
How did they manage to practice both & keep grades up?
p9morbid
track is definitely for the more "serious" runner. That's why people who aren't very serious about running (ie., soccer players) don't run track. And I mean high school runner, not runner in general. In high school track is just a pure speed test, which either you have or you don't. A lot of the soccer guys would be really good track athletes but they're not willing to do all the intense speedwork that goes along with track. chs_soccer34
I would be willing to all the intense speedwork, Im just not willing to give up soccer for track. At cross country practice speed work is my favorite day.
p9morbid
if you've ever done speedwork for the 800m or mile then you know what i'm talking about, it's so hard that you almost dread it.
