1A Regions in West TN for 2005-2009

The TSSAA has released the final reclassification list for 2005-2009 with the schools that want to play up in classification in football and/or basketball.

The 1A football schools in West Tennessee include: Union City, Halls, Manassas, Greenfield, Gleason, South Fulton, Lake County, Trinity Christian, Jackson Christian, Bruceton Central, West Carroll, McKenzie, Middleton and Fayette Academy.

Since Manassas has decided to play in the 1A ranks, that makes splitting up the teams into two regions interesting. It would make sense for the Jackson area schools to be included in the region with Manassas. If you do that and split them evenly this is probably what you would have:

Region 7-1A: Trinity Christian, Jackson Christian, Middleton, Fayette Academy, Halls, West Carroll and Manassas.

Region 8-1A: Union City, Greenfield, Gleason, South Fulton, Lake County, McKenzie and Bruceton Central.

All schools outside of the Jackson area - excluding Halls - would have at least a two hour drive to Memphis to play Manassas. West Carroll is closer to Jackson than Bruceton and McKenzie. The War Eagles would draw the shortest straw and have a two hour plus drive every other year.

Or you could have the teams travel Highway 51 to Memphis and have the following:

Region 7-1A: Trinity Christian, Jackson Christian, Middleton, Fayette Academy, Bruceton Central, West Carroll and McKenzie.

Region 8-1A: Union City, Manassas, Greenfield, Gleason, South Fulton, Lake County and Halls.

Either way, Manassas and their opponents are going to have to log a good deal of bus time for a region game.

What are your opinions?

I was really hoping to keep the Carroll County schools together. Manassas has certainly created some logistical problems. Your scenarios assume an even 7-7 split. What about a 6-8, North/South split with Manassas, TCA, JCS, Fayette Ac., Middleton, & Halls in the south & the north comprised of Carroll, Weakley, Obion, & Lake counties?

You bring up a good point NW...it could be a 6/8 split.

So, Region 7-1A - TCA, JCS, Fayette Academy, Middleton, Manassas and Halls.

Region 8-1A - Union City, South Fulton, Lake County, West Carroll, Bruceton, Greenfield, McKenzie and Gleason.

Having an 8 team region would make scheduling easier for teams like UC that have been having a tough time finding games. They could keep Westview, Obion County Central and - pick one of the following - Huntingdon, Milan, Humboldt, Trenton Peabody or Dresden on their schedule and then the other 7 region games would fill it out...or they could pick up games with 7-1A foes. But knowing UC, they would rather play one of their many rivals.

Don't forget that you might still have to fit Perry County into the mix. I don't think it is a lock that we will go east, I hope so, but we've been disappointed before.

How a bout these regions?

With Perry County

Region 7

Bruceton

West Carroll

McKenzie

Middleton

Gleason

Greenfield

Perry County

Region 8

Manassas

Fayette Academy

Halls

Lake County

TCA

JCS

Union City

South Fulton

Without Perry County

drop PC from 7 and move Union City & So. Fulton to 7

I really believe that Regions 5-1A and 6-1A will be reset and Perry County will be in 6-1A.

Gone from 5-1A will be CPA, DCA, Davidson Academy, Ezell-Harding and Franklin Road...leaving Nashville Christian, McEwen and Jo Byrns. If you move four schools from 6-1A that leaves each region with seven teams. Perry County could be put in 6-1A and make it an eight team region.

And don't forget Clarksville Academy is starting there program back up and Zion Christian will have to be placed in a region. With Trousdale electing to stay down this go around, Region 4 will get up to 9 teams I believe. Surely taking a couple from 6 and a couple from 4, & adding them to 5, would still leave room to squeeze us in the east.
