Both of these were probably preventable. The first, if it's storming, you don't need to be running sprints outside. If it hadn't been, then there's really nothing you can do.

 

The second one, though, sickens me. I went to college in Arkansas, and I was the color commentator for the local HS football broadcasts. One of the last games before I started, a player on the other team took a weird hit that hurt his head -- wasn't helmet to helmet, he just came down weird. They tended to him for a while and let him walk off the field. That night, he ended up having to go to the emergency room, and he died overnight.

 

This can't be emphasized enough...if there's any type of head/neck injury, DO NOT LET THE KID WALK OFF!

 

Would either one have ended up dying from the injury? Who knows. But walking with a broken neck sure as heck didn't help.
