Fumble advancement rule

I know in the NFL with less than 2 minutes to go in a half the only player who is allowed to advance a fumble is the player who fumbled the ball. If any other offensive player recovers the ball it is blown dead at that spot.

What about high school? Is there a similar rule in this situation? I can't seem to find the official TSSAA rulebook anywhere on line.

Thanks

This is a good question. I don't know if many can respond, though.

I recently asked a question concerning no runback from the endzone on a kickoff.  I would like to know how & why that rule came to be.

Looks as if this is a pure fan Board. Not many technicals discussed. But an enjoyable Board, too!

That rule started in 1973. I don't know why it was adopted.

Check rule 7-4-2 about fumbles and backward passes. A loose ball behind the line of scrim. is anyones to advance. That includes blocked kicks except PATs (kick, run,or pass) which are then ruled incompleted trys.

In overtime, when the ball is recovered by the defence, the play is blown dead, and the ball belongs to the recovering team.

There are no time considerations.

Highschool rules on Friday.

College rules on Saturday.

BS rules on Sunday, and Monday.

Thanks Jimbo, what about my original question. Can a fumble be advance by anyone other than the fumbling player? You also cited a specific rule, is the rulebook online somewhere?

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
