being that Alcoa generally has the blessing of good athletes, it's hard for me to see a coach sticking around for very long. You cannot blame Meadows for leaving, and I certainly wouldn't blame Reid if he decided to use Alcoa as a "stepping stone" kind of job. If I were in the business of coaching I would probably try to "move up" in the ranks as best I could.

I don't think Reid has any intention of leaving soon.

I agree, I see Coach John hanging around for a few years. Alcoa has been blessed through years with developable (IF that’s a word?) kids. A coach that can prove he can do that could move up. I do think Alcoa is a stepping stone type job simply because Alcoa being a small school it is very difficult to "Re-Load" every year and be a power the way a Oak Ridge, DB, Maryville, or Riverdale can and does. A school needs to get out 80-100 kids’ year end and year out to have a pick like that and kids that don’t play too many other sports as well.

Also John some kids younger that Colton. That he and his wife want to get through school and Blount County/Alcoa is a great place to do that.

My hat is off to Coach Reid because he is a hard worker, good man and mentor but I still think he is yet unproven as far as a head coach and winner. He has done a good job but he'll need to stay put for 5-6 years and have a winning season every year. Next season when all of the studs he has now have moved on when the cupboard is a little bare we'll all see if he can continue to win. I think he can, but time will tell. Good luck to Alcoa except for one week this year!

Most of the starters are juniors they just don't have the big name players. I'd say we will have a pretty good season after this one.

Hey Linebackers...spelling must not be a stressed subject at good ole Maryville High. I guess on that point neither is a gracious attitude towards the talent that has been placed in the Maryville School System. I don't know what the outcome of any of the games Alcoa plans to play in and neither do any of the rest of us because they've yet to have been played. All I know for sure is...the staff and players at Alcoa High School work hard everytime they step in the weight room or on the field. Do not underestimate the value of hard work after all that's what built the ole mighty Maryville Football Program.

Bart Hicks will be eligible this year.

TnVols, I heard a rumor that LSU was at the team workout the other day, and Les Miles told Rae Sykes that he wanted him to play for them in a few years.  I know Brandon is one of their main targets, but I imagine if both went there they would keep their domination on the D-Line going into college.

Like I said, I heard this from another player, I don't know if it's true, could you enlighten me.

Tom,

It's true about Rae. Coach came and told us that a couple workouts ago. Miles just said that Rae needs to stay healthy and keep improving, which I can see happening. It's sad but I could really see him going to be a Tiger.

    • Wow I haven't been keeping up with softball had no idea.Been keeping up with baseball and we are slowly fading there.I will check it out!!Thx
    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
