sportsradiotn
The Yankees "luxury tax" payment to MLB last year was more than the combined payroll of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

jusdontno
Though legal, I just don't like this kind of baseball management. The Yankees no longer have a great organization, they just buy everyone else's best players. I know all teams that can do this to some extent (that's the new brand of baseball I don't like), but the Yankees will sign anyone available regardless of cost--all teams can't or won't do this. And while team chemistry and cohesiveness and egos is an issue, if I have a 6 time Cy Young award winner throwing and f or 6 40 HR guys, your chances are pretty good in most games. I just liked the days when you knew who was a Yankee, who was a Cardinal, who was a Dodger, etc. Sure there was the occasional trade, but now it takes me 2 months each year to figure out who's playing for who? Johnson has now been an EXpo, Mariner, Astro, D Back and Yankee (have I missed anyone) and this is the norm for the great players rather than the exception.
