Once again, MPHS, these rules aren't set by the TSSAA. Those are set by your local government.

 

Putting this together with another thread, I think you have agreed that open zoned public schools are fairly similar to private schools, correct?

 

I also believe that it would be easier to remove private schools into a different classification than it would to remove open zoned public schools. I don't think that will ever happen. This being said, then I don't think things would ever be truly equitable even if publics just played publics.

I agree that the rules arent set by TSSAA, thats my point. The rules arent the same wether they are local ot TSSAA. Will it ever be equal no. We live in a world of sin and somebody will cheat. I just would like to see their limits of cheating (public and private) deminish.

IMO, the schools that could have the strongest athletic programs are the magnet schools that are in large urban areas. The public has lost faith in the inner city public school system and a magnet school could draw kids from the whole county. What could a magnet school in the middle of Shelby County accomplish in athletics if they had a good coach and the adminstration was behind them?

They play by the same rules.

I agree with you on that MPHS. My church and my family should be able to give my child all the Christian education they need. If not either myself or my church is not doing their job.

This thread seems to tie morals and quality of education togther,very noble in a perfect world. Having said that,what example was set when it came to light that Graces' star athleate had recieved monetary compensation,and that the administration had "covered up" evidence to that effect,and questionable address issues? I don't wish to turn this into an assault on one school,nor do I profess to know details, just that it did happen. I'd also like to say that I'm "on the fence" here, as the private school atmosphere sounds like a more condusive enviroment to learn,but it's not a forgone conclusion that your child is "doomed" if he/she attends public school. A parents role in childrens lives matters more than the short few hours spent at school,and valuable lessons are to be had in both enviroments that can't be had in the other.For you to say that"in chattanooga to have a great education you have to attend a private school" seems a little closed-minded(especially when the school that your affiliation seems to be with's character has been in question so often the past couple of years).

I agree also General, MPHtiger, but Catholic schools are an extension of our church. So between my parish, me, and our schools, we try and cover all bases in forming Christian beliefs and education as well.

Statements like "your child is doomed if they attend public schools" etc, are always incorrect. to use a particular private school rule infraction as an example against private schools is short sighted as well. There are two sides to that story as we all know. Yes, a parents role is critical for any child, but I might suggest that many children may spend more time at school than with many parents in today's world. For the parents that the previous statement does not apply, hats off to you, your child will only benefit from your involvement in their lives. I would suggest that no parent is totally responsible for their child's education or religious training. Looking back, many, many people formed my beliefs and values and many, many people were heavily involved in my education, is it not basically the same for almost all of us.
