  1. Lee won't look too bad if a bunch of kids in FL, GA and AL end up getting sick. It's just high school football, geez. Play Spring sports now and move Fall sports to Spring. Wait for a solution to the problem.
  2. No you got what you got because you were suggesting we umpires stay together and basically implied we cheated. You got personal. If you were a coach, I would have warned you. I can't warn you on here, therefore, you got a KMA. With that being said, I am done with this. I have given you facts that were given to me in person and you choose to give me your opinions regarding what happened or what you think might have happened. Facts outweigh opinions.
  3. Yeah, and your attitude toward "umpires" is a symptom of a larger problem. You're basically saying my conversation with this umpire and what he said to me, and keep in mind that this was the calling umpire, does not matter. You are either calling him or me a liar. I'm sorry I contributed to this discussion. "Birds of a feather flock together." Really? I offer first hand, factual information to this discussion and you tell me this? Ed, do the letters KMA, mean anything to you?
  4. Wrong. The rule regarding the hybrid pitching stance is in college baseball too. The rule is different, but there is still a rule involving the hybrid stance. There was no one on base when the first illegal pitch was called. A ball was added to the count. If anyone had been on base, then the call would have been a balk. The calling umpire explained to the coach, at length, what his pitcher had done wrong and what he needed to do to be legal. The pitcher threw a pitch, in the legal position. The pitcher then went back to the same foot placement that resulted in the first pitch illegal pitch call and another illegal pitch was called. Another ball was added to the batter's count. Then the coach went crazy. I worked with the calling umpire the following day after this circus and this is what he told me. I have zero reason not to believe him.
  5. Haywood needs to get their dirt out of the boss' yard
  6. Don't just stand on the sidelines and gripe then. Be part of the solution. Every association in the state is looking for good umpires. I bet $500 you have a reason (excuse) not to.
  7. http://tssaasports.com/event/bracket.cfm?id=20170407 Link.
  8. NFHS needs to change to the NCAA terminology to make it easier to call though.
  9. I bet they don't this year. It's a POE this year.
  10. There is a shortage of officials in ALL sports, not just football.
  11. You're right, either umpire can call a balk. But, there is absolutely no such thing as the highlighted. No umpire school, CCA or NFHS mechanics teach "above/below" the belt for balk responsibilities. If you see a balk, you call a balk, period. The statement was also made that "Good coaches gain every advantage they can." That is true, that's why the umpires are out there, because coaches will cheat if they can.
  12. I'm not sure where you get "Bush" league out of the scenario you described. The complaining by the coach, in and of itself, is not "Bush" league. The umpire drawing the line on the mound is an umpire simply making up rules. Imontheline nailed it, it is the plate umpire's call. The pitcher has to gain distance and direction.
