  1. Personally, I believe that Steve Gregg is one of if not the best that's ever played for the Bucs. "Who is Steve Gregg", you ask! He played in the late 80's, so most of you 21st centurions will not have ever heard of him. He led the city and tri-state in rushing and scoring(Ibelieve) and was also selected all state which was much, much harder to do than it is now. Now there are sooo many classifications and so many chosen for these accolades. Also, back in those days, Boyd rarely threw the football, if ever. With that being said, each and every defense knew that Steve was carrying the ball probably 3 out of every 4 plays and still, no one could stop him. Check back in the Archives about BB football and Chattanooga Area football and you'll definitely find the name 'Steve Gregg'. I'll bet you'll agree....that he's one of if not THE best to ever tote the rawhide! My $0.02 Worth
  2. I personally think that this would be a great idea. Too many kids get overlooked when it comes to scholarships because they aren't D1 prospects. Many of these players could still be available for D2, NAIA, etc., schools if given the opportunity. At least they would have another chance to get into a college and get an education. Take a look at the "Liberty Bowl All-Star Game"(I think it's called) articles on the front page of Coach T. If you read the articles, they explain that many smaller colleges CAN'T see these kids because of limited budgets for travel and recruitement. They had some type of "job fair" for the coaches to see many kids game films, etc. Such a great idea!!!
  3. No disrespect, Mr. Ambassador, but other than the Tyner game, just what did Terrell do to earn ANY honors???
  4. Congrats Butchie & the Rebels on your win tonight. Good luck on your quest to face Trousdale County in the Boro! Your SP Friends
  5. #1jacketfan..good post GREAT GAME! 2 unbelievable things happened at the game tonight. SP stopped TC' offense and TC stopped SP's. TC's #24 ran the ball well as did #5. Big yards when much needed. The kicker you have is phenomenal. He probably should have kicked 2 more FG's in the 1st half. I guess Creasy thought SP couldn't stop TC. I sure wish someone would talk this boy into signing with UT. I know that he can kick it out of the endzone on kick-offs and at UT he could lead the nation in scoring just because of all FG's...LOL...he's a D-1 prospect if ever I've seen one. Good luck the next TWO games. We helped to get Oneida & McKenzie right where you want them. They most undoubtedly believe now that TC has no offense. Oneida's educational lesson will begin Friday night at the "Reservation"! Great Game Montrell #25. You played a heck of a game with 100% effort all the time. You're a Warrior, son. If I were coaching a team, I5 want players with effort & heart like you. I really think we should have ran David #2 and Montrell more up the middle. TC never stopped SP from going up the middle. Again,GOOD LUCK. You've got a great team!
  6. The passing game....the "big-time, athletic mobile quarterback with the strong arm" couldn't come through. This game could have been a lot different if Terrell could've hit one or two of the wide-open receivers he had in the first half. This was the difference in the game. SP should've been up by at least 14 and probably 21 going into the half. Looks like to me last year's passing game was MUCH better. The difference is, Terrell gets to throw a lot more than C.Robinson ever got to. The fact is: Terrell's advantages - 6'4" Cody' advantages: Football knowledge, Scrambling ability, Accuracy, NOT taking a sack or throwing to double & triple covered receivers. SP better work on his decision making or they will get beat in the playoffs when they have to throw the ball!
  7. Apparently freakzilla, you didn't read the previous posts. The starters came out of the game with 4:26 left.....IN THE 1st QUARTER! The score was 40-0. The only time they ever entered the game again was on a few of the extra points. The second string really only got to play a quarter or so, too. Freshmen and a few Sophs played the rest of the way. I believe that SP threw ONLY 2 passes the entire game and they were early in the 1st qtr. What else do you do as a coach? I believe that it would be more embarassing,un-sportsmanlike,and disrespectful to this game if Grider would.have took a knee 3 times and punted on every posession in the second half!! Scheduling??? Do you think SP getd better in games like this with their starters only getting 10-15 minutes of playing time?? NO!!! They can't control their region foes. Maybe you should have your school "schedule" SP....then you'd really have something to gripe about!
  8. Not sure who "tromo" is, but I do not that he/she doesn't know anything about baseball if they believe that coach Chaffin isn't doing what needs to be done. He is one of the best coaches in the state of Tennessee in high school baseball. He runs the program as well as anyone at any school and he does the right things. You or your son (whoever isn't getting to play.....which is causing this bitterness) should be sitting on the bench if that is where he has you! There's only one other coachthat I have ever been associated with that I would rather my son play baseball for, and I have played or coached in Tennessee since 1976!!! I personally coached with Butch and I know that he plays the best 9 players that gives the team the best chance of winning and advancing. It doesn't matter who the kid's parents are, what they own, where they work, or how much money they have or donate to the program! This is the reason they got rid of him in the late 90's. He didn't play those kids that the $ parents wanted to play! Good Job Coach Chaffin! Sorry about the loss. Really wanted to see you in the Boro this year. If you ever need someone to coach with you, Give me a call!
  9. I wouldn't say unstoppable.......If I remember correctly, SP was up on TC by 3 or 4 td's at the half in '98(i believe) and then tried to throw the second half and were beaten something like 35-32???? So no, I wouldn't say that they were unstoppable that year. Maybe in 1997. JMO
  10. Hey! I know you! I bet I'll have some PEACH at the basketball games, too! I bet you know who I am now, too. See you Thursday??? I also wanted to congratulate the people from Mckenzie and South Pittsburg. I don't care what the record books show next year, THIS GAME HAD MORE FANS ATTEND THAN ANY OF THE OTHER FOUR! You should all be proud.
  11. Zone, I sat up by 2 dads from Alcoa during the 3rd andpart of the 4th Qtr.'s. They were very complimentary of your team. They ALSO made some very nice comments to me. One said "I'm glad we came down early to watch this game today. We've heard the "Buzz" about this Pirates team and wanted to see 1st hand how good ya'll were." The other dad said "the ONLY team we've played all season that could beat ya'll is Maryville. And I'm glad that we aren't playing you guys today, cause I'm not sure that we could hang with you either." Now, I know that they were being nice, but I did get a little sincerity from there statements as well. Great compliments for the Coaches, Team and players for SP. CONGRATS on a Great season! ssssssss Posted 20 minutes ago south pittsburg vrs alcoa would have been the game to watch...to bad!!! I must say I did enjoy watching the mckenzie quarterback....hes a good one Yes he is a good QB and that showed late in the 4th qtr. SP had a few younger players in the game and had relaxed defensively, but he had a great arm. He also impressed me with the way he scrambled (Often). SP put a lot of pressure on him at times and he tried to make things happen. His receivers dropped a few passes, and he misse on a few throws, but you could still tell that he was a good QB. He will make a pretty good QB in somebody's system in college. GOOD LUCK to him. Also, I think SP's QB is as stable as they come. I have gotten to experience him "First Hand" for the last few years, and I believe that he is one of, if not, the best to come out of the Sequatchie Valley. He runs the offense well and doesn't make mistakes. He hasn't gotten the recognition that he deserved because they don't have to throw the ball, but he has proven over the past few years, that he can throw and throw it well. I believe he only threw 2 or 3 int's this season. Pretty impressive to me. Too bad he isn't about 6'1 or 6'2 or we would probably be watching him on Saturday's somewhere. Best QB that I remember seeing from SP in all my years!
  12. First of all, you have a lot of gall coming on here to belittle kids that just won the 1A State Championship. Where is your team, sitting at home watching????? Everyone knows that year in and year out, a 1A team cannot compete with some 2A,3A,4A, and 5A teams. But every once in a while, a "special" team comes along that has the ability to do so, regardless of the fact that they only have 30-50 kids to choose from instead of 80-100+. The Alcoa Tornadoes have had one of those teams in the past few years and many believe that this years SP team could do the same. They demolished us (Marion County), Boyd Buchanan, and they also beat a pretty good Tyner Ram team. All of these teams are 2A Teams. Who is to say that they couldn't compete with Alcoa this year?? It's ont SP or any other "small" school's fault that they don't get to play any "larger (i.e. 3A,4A,&5A) teams. You can give thanks to Mr. Carter for that. He sees the need for 25 different classifications for one reason..........I'll let all of you figure that out. I believe that TSSAA should go back to the 3 classification format. It would make for some very interesting games. When SP won in 69 there wasn't 7 classifications. How big were the schools that couldn't beat them way back then??? When Marion County won in the mid 90's, they beat the likes of Soddy-Daisy, Baylor, McCallie, etc. Seems to me like they could "hang" with the "bigger" dogs! Secondly, SP never ran the score up on any team that they played all year! When you have Junior, Sophmore, and Freshmen RB's, QB's, and linemen in in the second half, and you are strictly handing the ball off left and right, and continue to score, IS THAT REALLY RUNNING THE SCORE UP????? Maybe since SP's QB (#5) isn't a good passer, SP should have left him in the games in the 2nd halves to throw all the time......but hey, that's trying to run up the score, isn't it???? I guess starting the 2nd halves, SP should have just come out and took a knee on downs 1,2,and 3 and then punted, or maybe they should have just punted on first down every time. It's guys like you that don't understand that it's not a coaches job to tell his younger players to go in the games and try NOT to score. I guess that would help build their characters for the next season. Maybe I just don't understand Football. Maybe you are right!
  13. First of all, Congrats to the Pirates on the big win tonight and Good Luck next week. Don't Let UP! Keep doing what you've been doing for the past weeks and play your game. To the Hampton Bulldogs: I know that all of you (players and fans) are still on that long dreaded journey home. I pray that you make it back safely. Hold your heads up high. Respect earned. You guys played a great game and never quit. That is a sign of a true "winner"! You met your match tonight and you battled honorably! 14, 12, 4, 44, 18, 56 among others played a great game. I talked to many parents, coaches, and players from Hampton after the game and I have nothing to say but CLASS! I did not hear one negative word come out of anyones mouth after the game. It seemed like every person that I told "good game" responded with "ya'll were the better team, now go win it all"! I know from playing and losing my last game of the year against MIDWAY (way back in the day - '89), it is hard as he@) to smile and tell the winning team to continue on and do what we didn't get to. Your school earned my respect! Great Season. To the PIRATES: Go bring the championship trophy back to the Valley. You guys have played tremendously all season, BUT you still have one to go! You know what goal you set before the season, and now you have given yourself the chance to achieve that goal. Great game by 24,2,21,5,25, & 35. But MOST OF ALL, the Offensive Lineman. All of you guys played a great game. All of the talk on here that you wouldn't be able to run up the middle on the Bulldogs because of there size (I kinda wondered myself after seeing them in warmups), and ya'll manhandled them. Pushed them all over the field. I believe that they underestimated SP's men "in the trenches" and worried about 21,24, etc. Anyway, great game! For the game next Friday, HOLD ON TO THE BALL! No turnovers. No disrespect to Hampton, but I believe that if the Pirates would have scored before, the half instead of Hampton on the fumble recovery, the game could have been a little different. SP would have also had the ball to start the 2nd half with a chance to be up 4 TD's. But, all that don't matter. The Bulldogs did what they had to do and kept themselves in the game and played hard to the very end! What I am trying to say is "Don't let stupid penalties or a turnover cost you the ultimate trophy!" One more for Coach Don! GOOD LUCK NEXT FRIDAY! GO PIRATES
  14. Zone, if you do get it, please let us know on here. I heard that it was the most unbelievable run that most had ever seen in high school!
  15. From what I hear, #24 from Temple was doing the name-calling. From some of the African American players from SP, this kid stomped on the foot of #88 and called him a N-------- (the "N" word). When #24 for SP stepped in to break it up the #24 from Temple went crazy. Not facts! Just the side of the story that I received. That's all. I have no dog in the fight, so I could care less, but I heard he really made himself look very silly, not to mention the "School".
  16. Apparently you weren't at the game. My nephews play ball at SP and their dad said that all Offensive Starters were out of the game with about 4:30 left in the 2nd QUARTER. Did I stutter or did your ears flap? I said the 2nd QUARTER! All of the defensive starters played until 2:00 left in (once again) the 2nd QUARTER. The JUNIOR VARSITY played the rest of the game. The only time that ANY of the starters walked onto the field in the second half was for the extra points. Also the kicker came on to handle the kicking duties. My question to you "Coach 2seamfastball" is: What do you suggest that the SP coaches should have done differently? 62-6 at the half 69-6 Final Sounds like the dogs weren't just called off, they were locked in the kennel for the 2nd Half! I may have earned a little respect for Coach Grider tonight myself. ( I can't believe I just said that!) GOOD LUCK PIRATES!
  17. QUOTE(Green_Acres @ Oct 24 2007 - 09:01 AM) It has been too wet for them to take the field. I think they only practicing they have had so far is in the gym. I JUST HAD TO MAKE SOME POINTS ABOUT THESE LAST TWO POSTS. 1.)GREEN ACRES IS A TEMPLE FAN. 2.) ZONEPIRATE IS FROM SOUTH PITTSBURG. READ THESE TWO POSTS CAREFULLY AND YOU WILL FIND OUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN: A.) A WINNING PROGRAM B.) WHAT SOMEONE CALLED "A ONE HIT WONDER" DO YOU SEE IT???? TOO WET VS. OUT IN THE RAIN NEED I SAY MORE????? Marion County used to be like this and I remenber reading about our opponents who were practicing in the gym because it was "too wet" outside. I believe we were 59-1 during a four year stretch if I remember correctly.[/color]
  18. Tha Chosen One is not from SP. He isn't even from Marion County. I believe that he is from Lookout Valley if I'm not mistaken. I believe it will be a barn burner for the first half, then those bully pirates will pull away to win by 28 following 2 late scores by Silverdale after the mercy rule has been installed. Just my opinion!
  19. I personally would love to see this state line match-up. what do you think the outcome would be. SP is very dominant, beating the likes of 2a Boyd, Tyner, and my Warriors. North Jackson also is very dominant in its own right, with wins over fellow 2a powerhouse Limestone Co. as well as 4a, 5a, and 6a Alabama teams. I would love to attend this game at say.....Finley Stadium.....on a Saturday. May this longtime rivalry(SP vs. Bridgeport) could be renewed in the near future. What are your opinions on this possibility, and what predictions do you have on a game if it were played this year?
  20. I couldn't agree more MCROAD. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> We could/should have had 2-3 more TD's. we will have to cash in on all of these opportunities for the next 3 weeks to be able to keep rolling. We will have a big test next friday against the wannabe Warriors. They looked pretty good last week against Boyd from what I understand. Good Luck Boys for the rest of the year! Keep on rolling. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. Thanks Reaction for the ...........well ....uh......reaction. No Pun intended! Good Luck to the BUCS the rest of the season, too. You guys need to drop a few region games, though. Prayers from Marion County goes out to the "real life things" you spoke of. I hope everything turns out well.
  22. Where's all the Boyd Buc faithful. I thought for sure you would be on here to back your BUCS. I would like to know what you think about how SP ranks up against MC and your other opponents so far this year. Congrats to the Pirates on your win. Oh Yeah.......Don't count out the Warriors yet. We are just getting heated up!
  23. First of all, Congratulations to both teams on a Great, I mean GREAT, ballgame tonight. Both teams played hard for 4 quarters and never quit. For TYNER: Very big, very athletic, and very well coached. I new that Coach Turner would have a very well prepared and disciplined team ready for this game. I have seen him too many times. He always has his teams ready for their Friday night battles and this was no exception. #28 & #5 were very tough on offense. Defensively, I believe that #40 may have a future on Saturdays upcoming. He has the size and he was all over the field(including the backfield). GOOD LUCK to The RAMS throughout the rest of the season. Bring the State Title back for our region. For SP: One of the best "Overall" games that I have seen you guys play. The O & D lines dominated(i thought) for the most part. # 75 must have had at least 6-7 pancake blocks against some good Ram lineman. # 52 played a tremendous game on the defensive side of the ball. Must have had at least 10-12 tackles. Defensively: I also thought that #6, #7, & #40 played above their normal games (which they need to do week in and week out). There were some very big defensive stops that stalled Tyner's drives throughout the game. None bigger than the 1st & Goal from the 6yd line that ended on 4th down with a fumble recovery for a touchback resulting from a big hit at the 1(I believe from #2). Offensively: #2 & #24 were almost unstoppable. I believe that each had over 150yds rushing tonight. #24 ran the ball very hard and showed a little of his own "speed" on a break-away run for a TD. #2 is just a joy to watch. He looks like a man among beasts(even against 2A TYNER). He is a load to bring down and packs a punch from the defensive side too! The QB for SP is as solid as I've ever seen. He never seems to get rattled in any situation. In all the games I have seen him play over the last 4 years, I have never seen him do 1 thing to cause his team to lose. He throws the ball etremely well(which sadly isn't seen because of the mighty running attack) and can run well when needed. 100% Winner / 100% Competitor. (1st person I'd pick to run my team....If I had one.) OVERALL NEGATIVES: A few things that I believe SP needs to improve to advance to their Final Destination(The Boro)..... 1. Fumbles: They must take care of the ball. 2 fumbles (I believe #24 had both)!!!! Tyner could have one this game because of the last one. 2. The "Bomb": Defensive backs cannot continue to allow the over-the-top throw. I believe that we have had at least 4-5 this year. 3. Kicking Game: The punting has been atrocious. There were 2 tonight that probably avg. 15-20 yds. PAT's - # 15 has done fairly well in this category over the past year & half. MUST HAVES. I believe that the kicker is taking too long between the snap and when he kicks. Too many near blocks. (It might be time to search out that German student I heard you had in school) 4. Passing Game: Almost non-existent tonight. I realize how good the ground game was, but if the passes are caught when delivered on the money, imagine how much the defense would have to relax. Makes for an even more effective ground game. No Passing Game = Another 2nd or 3rd round exit against a team who can and WILL slow the run. Evidence..........Look at the last 2-3 years. 5. Cramping: I am not sure why players are still getting these leg cramps. Too late in the season for these. I know that Grider has them in shape. An answer and prevention plan needs to be found quickly! ADDITIONAL OVERALL POSITIVES: 1. The heart and drive of this team seems to be its strongest asset. NEVER DIE! 2. The Coaching: One of the best jobs I have witnessed from this staff in recent years. A few questionable calls offensively in my opinion, but who am I to say??? The decision about the kick-offs was one of the smartest things I have seen in a while. I hope that none of our competitors use this against our return teams. I thought the tone was set with big hits on almost every KO. Almost no return each time. #82 will be very sore in the morning. If #25 for SP took his head off 1 time he did it 5. The PIRATES have alot to look forward to if they keep playing hard-nose football on both sides of the ball.... AND if they keep their intensity and drive to make it to the BORO. WARNING: DON'T LET THIS BE YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP! YOU HAVEN'T ACCOMPLISHED ANYTHING YET! KEEP WORKING HARD TOWARD YOUR GOAL AND BRING THE CHAMPIONSHIP BACK TO THE VALLEY!
  24. Someone needs to tell this kid to approach the coaches about this opportunity. Someone should also tell the coaches about this young man. It could be a great blessing to have a true "kicker" on the team when the Pirates are down by 1 and it's 4th and 14 from the 15, 20, or 25 yard line. Maybe there won't have to be a desperation "heave and hope". And what if this kid could send kickoffs high and deep to allow this mediocre coverage team to stop the opposition deeper than the 40-45 yard line on our kickoffs. I say thumbs up to this idea! (Definately, No dis-respect to #15 Arkeem McKinney....who I think has done a very admirable job to this point.) It wasn't too many years ago that Jasper had a foreign exchange student come in that was a good kicker. It's worth a shot!
  25. Tell Coach Martin that his "Little" friend named JIMMY says Congratulations on the big win!
