  1. I look for Jeff to bounce back against the Smokin Bears. They run the ball OK, if they can complete passes and keep drives going they might pull the upset, Pass defense has to get better though. Maybe just playing at Dumplin Valley will be the edge they need,
  2. Long trip to Burke-Toney Stadium to face the Hurricanes, Can the Hawks get win # 2?
  3. I think everybody needs to move the kickoff time back to 8 PM. Its too hot at 7. I remember back in the 60s 70s and 80s, all games started at 8 PM. Then in the 90s 7:30 kickoffs started showing up, now 7 PM kickoffs. Given that school and the football season starts in mid hot August now, I think 8 PM is better. Then once cooler weather and earlier dark hours start, they can revert to 7 or 7:30.
  4. I think the Mavs bounce back in grand style against the Hilltoppers. AC 28 SH 14.
  5. No I didn't see the Tennessee High game, I just remember seeing them against Oak RIdge the last two seasons and they were pretty good in both games in 21 and 22. If they are better than those teams the sky is the limit and the Indians are toast!!
  6. West has a pretty good defense, and I thought it took them 3 quarters to get their offense going, which was just by finding out that they could run the ball on a tired Bearden front, then Bearden gets burned on single coverage for the winning touchdown . Clinton shows they can score points, the question is can they stop a good offense? Be an interesting game to watch, will the Year of the Dragon get back on track?
  7. I saw Greeneville at the Carson Newman Jamboree, they have a pretty good team, maybe not like the last two years but they have the players they can develop and I can see when they get it worked out to have a real strong running game. I was hoping the Indians would beat the Bluebellies at Fox Den, but they gave up a last second score and the wine and cheese was flowing. Sounds like the edge goes to Greeneville...
  8. Pretty good opening night win for Oak Ridge, while Jeff County had the edge in the lines, they could not cover or match the skill players outside. Wildcats had a few turnovers that would have hurt them against a better offensive team. The defense played better than I thought. QB had a good first game, got a lot of pressure in his face at times, threw a couple of tough picks where the db outfought the receiver for the ball. Kicking pretty good for a freshman kicker, good kickoffs and a field goal. Lots of things to work on week 1 to week 3, open date might be at a good time for this team. Powell next up in week 3, while they don't have the receivers and quarterback they had last year, they are really strong on both lines and have a solid running game as shown in a 35-21 win over AC.
  9. Mark Packer and Austin Price and the others on Packervision put the hex on OR picking Jefferson County over OR because their lines were better.
  10. Packer gave the Dragons his blessing last night picking them to start off the Year of the Dragon with a win over Cleveland
  11. I remember the great Gallatin teams of the 70s, 80s and 90s under Calvin Short, I would like to see them back up there, Surely they can take the Commandos...
  12. jeff County traditionally is big up front and likes to control the ball and play defense, hoping to cash in on a turnover. The key to this game may be how well their defense can cover Oak Ridge's receivers. If they can't it will be a long night for the Patriots. For Oak Ridge, avoiding turnovers and better tackling in the secondary is a key. I understand the Patriots fared pretty well in a scrimmage against West, so the Wildcats cannot take them lightly, I think OR wins this one 21-7.
  13. West lost a lot of players off a really good team last season, I have to go with Bearden in this one, but not by a lot. 21-10
  14. A tough game to pick, both teams lost some key players from last season. AC picked up a QB and receiver in the transfer portal, both are supposed to be pretty good and I heard their lines looked good against DB in a scrimmage. Powell lost a really good quarterback and receiver and its going to be interested who they picked up to replace them. Powells lines are virtually intact from last season, and that's a big plus for them. Much as I would like AC to win, I will go with Pal in a close one at home. 28-21.
  15. DB sounded like they were pretty good up front in the scrimmage against Anderson County. Don't know much about Farragut yet except they are starting a new quarterback. I have to take the Indians in this one 21-17.
  16. I thought the offense continues to look good, at this point it is ahead of the defense. Pass coverage and secondary tackling need to get better. We have a new kicker but his extra points were the difference, punting definately needs work. Good quality opponent in Greeneville, which may be a tick down from the two previous teams, but have a good core of players and I am sure they will be there at playoff time.
  17. I am willing to bet that the rumors of Maryville's demise are a little exaggerated. Sounds like they did OK with Ensworth, which is usually a pretty solid contender in the private class. All their losses last year were to really good teams, including two that won their class state championship. They may not be as deep as they have been, but the guys they put on the field will be pretty good and well coached. Looking forward to watching the Oak Ridge scrimmage on Friday, will be a chance for both teams to get some good work in....
  18. Cleveland is always quick, I remember Benny {Monroe) and his jets. Bradley is pretty good I hear, I wonder if they got some of the guys Cleveland normally gets. I think if Clinton does beat them, it will be a big win and a signal that the Year of the Dragon is here....
  19. I did too, early missed tackles and busted coverages cost them, got to wrap up better on defense. Offense did some really nice stuff, main thing is keeping everybody healthy, especially the lines, to be a really good season, the lines need to be consistent. Coach Rang does a good job of working with the quarterbacks, I saw better play there. than at anytime last year. Fulton had some quick backs and receivers and big lines, but they are real thin off the bench, only 27 players total dressed for the scrimmage, I hope they got more coming.
  20. Yes, he is. I like him and I have enjoyed talking with him. I think he is going to do an excellent job at Oak Ridge.
  21. I heard Bradley was very good from an AC friend.
  22. I would like to know too, Is it the Year of the Dragon? How did Hardin Valley look? 2nd year for Coach Miner over there and a long rebuild in store I hear.
  23. I understand West lost a bunch of good players and needs a quarterback. Jeff lost a QB and WR to AC, I was wondering how the Patriots looked as well.
  24. I would be interested to hear as well, since we play Knox Central this year.
