  1. Perhaps it is you, sir who doesn't know much about the game. Mt. Pleasant has the talent level to win the State for the past two seasons, but because of the mis-use of personal, their star player runs out of gas the deeper they go into the playoffs. You cannot expect a player at ANY level to be responsible for 300+ yards a game week after week. It is physically impossible as the Mt. Pleasant coaching staff proved yet again. Mt Pleasant fans are always so quick to jump to Marco and the coaching staffs defense when it is not neccesary. No one has said anything negative against the kid. He has been playing the wrong position for three years now. He cannot throw the ball accurately enough to create a legitimate passing threat. ANYONE who knows football is aware of that. What this does is puts your team in a position where they MUST run the ball 95% of the time to be effective. When one kid is responsible for 95 % of those carries, logic dictates that his legs aren't going to hold up forever. The further you get in the playoffs, the better talent you run into. As many stated prior to the playoffs, MP can get to the semi-finals pretty much every year (with Marco) based on pure talent. Beyond that, you have to be multi-dimensional and you have to spread the ball around. It isn't theory, it is fact! Before you start attacking people who make obvious observations and insulting there football knowledge maybe you could provide us with some background on how many championships you've been responsible for coaching. I'd be interested in that!
  2. 45.7 % not a good completion percentage at any level. Daily will not beat anybody passing the ball. The only pass he threw the other night was about 10 yards behind a wide open receiver. The receiver could of walked in the endzone if the pass was even in his neighborhood. I don't see Jo Byrns stopping their run, so it will be irrelevant. Mt Pleasant's line is larger and stronger. If Jo Byrns can have long sustained drives and keep M.P. 's lineman on the field for long stretches, their blocking isn't near as effective when they get back on offense. This is the only way Jo Byrns wins the game. Mt. Pleasant has the better team, but I think Jo Byrns has enough coaching to beat them. Should be a heck of a game.
  3. I didn't interpret these numbers as score predictions, but as a ranking system. Higher numbers representing better teams. Is that incorrect?
  4. A few things that will need to change before Cascade makes a deep run in the playoffs: 1.) The Batts kid will have to be moved back to safety and the best option off the bench inserted at linebacker until the Gaithright kid comes back..(probably McPheron,Martin, or Harvey). 2.) Better communication in the secondary.. Too many kids running uncovered the other night. 3.) The QB needs a hot read on every play. Jo Byrns was blitzing linebackers and the only time they threw to Marable on a quick slant, it was successful. 4.) QB needs to do a better job of recognizing blitzes and call audibles when situation dictates it. Need to vary snap count more also. J.B. was getting way to good a jump to not get them offside a couple of times with count variation. 5.) Have to go deep a couple of times early in games rather than wait until your down to try and throw the ball. Pass plays have a lot better chance of being successful when the defense isn't anticipating it. 6.) Better overall tackling. Some kids aren't wrapping up and are going for the knock out punch. Need to do a better job of swarming to the ball. 7.) Receivers need to recognize when the QB is in trouble and break patterns off to help QB out when he is scrambling. This team is not good at getting open to help the QB. I was at the game last week and noticed several times the QB had plenty of time to throw and there was no one open. 8.) The play has to come in quicker from the sideline. If the QB could get up to the line of scrimmage and get a better pre-snap read, it would make a world of difference! Several times last week, the play came in so late, the QB practically had to run to the line of scrimmage and get the snap before the clock ran out. This also plays into the hands of the defense because they know you are going on one and can get a great jump off the line. 9.) Use the Tight end and backs out of the backfield more in the passing game. Cascade has an excellent line which dictates that most teams have to bring linebackers to get any pressure on the QB. If they threw to the tight end over the middle or a back on a middle screen that play is there most of the time. I know it was attempted a couple of times last week, but the timing seemed to be off. Cascade has a top five team talent wise from what I've seen, but several small things are preventing them from reaching potential. Hopefully some of these suggestions will be taken under consideration.
  5. Streak ends Friday.......Moore County by 10!
  6. Has Batts been approved to play for Friday? If so, you might want to up that score for Cascade. I saw this kid last night and he is the real deal! One of the best talents I've seen at this level.
  7. Does Forrest plan to host a Jamboree this season and if so does anyone have the schedule?
  8. Anyone have any information on whether or not Forrest will be hosting a jamboree this year? What Jamboree's will all region 5 teams play in and what is the schedule for your particular jamboree? Thanks
  9. Forrest will play the loser between East Robertson and Nashville Christian and the winner of that game gets Cascade. Should be some good matchups!
  10. The sole reason was him being dismissed was not certain people having a vendetta against Mike as you are implying. It was more of a decision based on productivity of the team. This was not the first time an attempt was made to get him replaced at Community. I don't think any parents had a personal issue with Coach Edmonson. I'd say you'd have a hard time finding anyone who would say anything bad about the man. As is the case in this profession, results determine your longivity and quite frankly the program has underachieved for a long time. Whether that is entirely Mike's fault or not, is questionable, but when you are the top guy, you have to accept that responsibility. Everyone in this profession understands that as I'm sure Mike does. The idea that he was released because certain kids didn't get the playing time they deserved is way off base and merely sour grapes. I think a change for both Mike and the team will hopefully rejuvenate both. Good luck to Mike in his next job and good luck to the Vikings next season!
  11. More questions: Some of the smaller schools have 8th graders playing with their varsity. My question is are you expected to count potential Varsity players toward the 50% rule for next season? An example would be a 14U team containing 4 girls who are currently seventh graders, but intend on trying out for the varsity team next season as eighth graders and two 8th graders who are currently on the varsity team? You could potentially have a total of six varsity players for the upcoming season together. There is no way of knowing how many of them, if any, will make the team, so I'm assuming this rule only applies to girls who have already made the Varsity team in the past.
  12. I'm neither a parent of any child at this school or a fan. I'm only an outside observer. I find it hard to believe that the first line of this is true. I can't believe any legitimate Coach would take playing time away from a Child because their parent spoke up against the Coach. Surely Coach Edmonson has more character than to do something like that. Do you have any evidence this has happened in the past? At any rate, I have heard of dis-gruntled parents at other schools call for the removal of a Coach and it typically gets very ugly. Has anyone at this school suggested a CLOSED parent/coach meeting to settle some of the obvious issues that have been discussed on here? I think if someone close to your Coach would suggest this it would go along way toward mending wounds. There is nothing better than a good heart-to-heart discussion to clear the air and if ALL parents are present then there could be no "retaliation" that you speak of because everyone would be there to witness what was said.
  13. Twenty years with a school does not qualify someone as a good coach, only a popular coach. Small communities are typically more tolerant of an underachieving team if the Coach is good with the kids and a good educator to boot. I think Edmonson fits these criteria. An un-objective person can not honestly call him a good Coach though. He inherited some good teams when he first arrived consisting of kids like Troy Yoes, Troy Harrison, Bob Mitchell to name a few. Since the sub-state run with Yoes, they haven't had another team that could compete. You have to ask yourself, has Unionville had a 15 year drought on talent or is he just a bad Coach? I'll let you be the judge of that. I think Edmonson has survived all these years because of his popularity. Now that partiality in the form of his son was introduced this season, people aren't going to tolerate his less than successful Coaching. Basically you have to be one of two Coaches to survive in High School. One is a popular, well liked Coach and the other is an extremely successful one. With the current problems he has created by making his son the first 8th grader to not only play on the varsity team, but also start he has set himself up for the mutiny that is happening. Hopefully he realizes before its too late that this was a bad decision from the start and corrects it.
  14. Anyone got an update on their Coaching situation? Have they had any interviews with anyone we might recognize?
  15. Fans and parents aren't getting paid. Every Coach has not been accused of it. When coaching one's child you have to be aware this is a possibility and Coach accordingly. The worse thing you can do is alienate the child from his teammates by putting him in a position he isn't ready for.
  16. With what Cascade has returning, I'd expect them to be the favorite next year. Forrest, Jo byrns and Eagleville also should be pretty good.
  17. I'm pretty sure CoachT provides a GIRLS basketball forum......you may want to check it out.
