  1. Regarding the quote of "DavidCrockettFan". That was Crockett's JV playing THS Freshmen team, not their JV Team.
  2. The bottom line today for D-1, D1AA, and even D-2 to an extent, is what your numbers are on paper. 10-15 years ago, college coaches recruited by the "numbers", but they still recruited heart and character. Not today. With the advent of the internet and recruiting services, they can find exactly what they need. It is a cruel fact, but in big time college football (and even not so big time) a coach looks for the quick fix, and what an athlete's numbers are. So big and fast will sign on the dotted line, regardless of their ability. Great football players often get overlooked because they do not fit the mold. Sad, but true.
  3. That's great for high school football (which is what this forum is about), but 4.6 gets you to Charleston and 4.3 gets you to Florida. So, for me, I'll take 4.3 every day.
  4. Congratulations to Tony Lambert.......The Maverick Herd is going to be hard to handle. Great things are about to happen to a great school and program. Kerr built it and Lambert will polish it up and improve on an already great product. Tough league to play in, but you've got a tough coach that will make even tougher kids. A word to the Prices. You guys need to get completely on board and do whatever Coach L needs you to do. Leave your feelings in the parking lot and just coach ball. Take time to learn from one of the best in the business. Believe me, your time will come... be patient. Be the best assistant coach you can possibly be. Good Luck
  5. I am personally upset that UCHS did not go with Glen White to head up their failing program. There is no one that loves, respects, and knows what it takes to succeed at Unicoi Co. any more than Coach White. Best of luck to the new man, but the blue devils have missed the mark this time.
  6. Anderson County wanted him, Powell missed their chance,...now Oneida has him. Great hire by Oneida. Congratulations TL !!! Good things are going to happen in Oneida. Expect 3 things... 1. Great discipline 2. Great Defense ... 3. Teams that play with heart. Congratulations once again "Chomp" !!
  7. I was really taking a jab at TSSAA by saying they get all the money from playoff games, trust me, I know all too well how the playoff money is divided. But if you look at what you said and what I said, we both are kinda right. When you get 50% of 50% after expenses, you get pretty close to nothing.
  8. I have to agree to the point that better athletes make better coaches. I saw a poorly coached team of athletes from Memphis East High School win the 1999 State Championship. Why did they win?... They definitely did not outcoach Knox Central, they outathleted them.
  9. Are you SERIOUSLY saying that he is being recruited by Auburn and Louisville?? Get real.. a letter from that school does not a recruit make.
  10. It involves more than the cost of the bus. It also involves the number of people that attend the games from visiting schools. When you have to travel weekly long distances to see a game, the fan base drops considerably. Then your gate reciepts drop. Playoff games on the other hand ... TSSAA gets all the money anyway , so no one makes anything.
  11. Yes, Virginia has a different format. There are lagre and small divisions of each classification, it really amounts to six classifications of football in Virginia. Some teams are in the same districts but different classification divisions. Power points are earned thru the year for wins and for the wins of opponents that you defeat to determine playoff teams. Sometimes it gets very condusing.
  12. I here J. Fred Johnson isn't being used, maybe they can play there.
  13. You sure know alot about the Falcons to not be a "Falcon Fan". Bottom line... North beat Volunteer. North beats Volunteer most every year. You ssem to have all the stats, look at the history of wins and losses between the schools. One year does not a program make. And by the way, what do you classify as "true" 4A opponents.
  14. But they did. Volunteer's program is not on par with North's. If Volunteer is a playoff team, then North should join the 5 Rivers Conference.
  15. This is always a sore subject and we don't know the whole story or the motives of the players for donating blood. Had they been told beforehand to not donate so they wouldn't miss practice? Was this an attempt for the kids to lay out of practice? We just don't know. And if the players were all fired up about donating blood, couldn't they do so at a time that didn't interfere with practice? Sounds like both parties be at blame here.
  16. In my mind there is only one "Great Eight" to come out of Scott County. He terrorized DB's in the 80's and his magic in many "Lard Bowls" caused the crowds to chant ..... SHOWTIME!! But seriously, #8 from OHS is pretty dang good, and Oskie, your #8 was one of my all-time favorites. Good Luck Indians!! Get'em Chomp!!
  17. It was my understanding that there were three people interviewed... You have not mentioned the third person, Tony Lambert. Is it your opinion that the decision was between Lowe and Hardegree only? If the Powell community would look at the whole situation and not just sentimental favorites or pressure from "THE HILL". they would see that Tony is a great fit for Powell. He is the type of person I hope can coach my son some day. So much so that I would move to Powell so my son could get a chance to play for him. He's only in the third grade now and I know that if Tony is hired, six years from now he'll still be at Powell (Will the West TN guy?), because if you get him as a coach you'll never let him go anywhere else. As far as Lowe is concerned, I'm sure his time will come. If he as loyal to Powell as his supporters say then he will understand that this would be great for the program and he might be able to grow as a coach by working with Coach Lambert( I know I did). His time will definitely come.
  18. Who do they say will be the new man in E-Town? Great opportunity for someone. Maybe a hometown boy coming home by way of Church Hill? "Ride ON"!
  19. Wouldn't the new coach decide when he will hold spring prctice?
  20. Tony Lambert deserves serious consideration for this job. The former DC from Anderson County continually fielded some of the finest defensive units in East Tennessee during his tenure in Region 3-4A, and Region 2-3A. But defense is not his only strong suit. Check your records and you'll find he was twice offensive coordinator and once in a game vs. Powell called BOTH the offense and defense, resulting in a victory for AC. Give this fine coach a chance and the players and community fo Powell will benefit greatly.
