  1. I don’t see Davidson County ever paying the TSSAA the kid of money that they want to host any state high school athletic championships. What the TSSAA is doing, is getting a financial payoff from various cities to host the championships. The TSSAA could care less if the venue is great, how convenient the parking is or if there is a crowd of over 100 people for any of the games. Why you ask, because they will receive their money regardless if anyone attends the events. It’s long past time to remove the redneck good ole boys from the Board of Control and replace them with individuals that are more concerned with doing what is best for the kids than what is best for the local school that they represent. While we are cleaning house just go ahead and give everyone at the TSSAA office a pink slip and replace them with business people that know what they are doing. Dealing with the TSSAA and their cronies is like paying for a steak dinner at a 5* restaurant but being served a McDonalds Quarter Pounder. In the end they are the only game in town and anytime someone has a monopoly without any competition the public gets screwed.
  2. You are 100% correct! We are living in a microwave society where everyone wants instant gratification.
  3. TSSAA 3333 Lebanon Pike PO Box 319 Hermitage, Tennessee 37076 615-889-6740 Good Luck!
  4. I would suggest you contact Mark Reeves at the TSSAA office. Until people rattle the cage of the TSSAA staff and Board of Control nothing will happen. You will have to make life miserable on them for anything to change. Good luck!
  5. All true! I have said it before and will continue to say that the good kids today are better than the good kids 30+ years ago. Now the question becomes would the good kids 30+ years ago been much better if they had been provided with the strength training programs, nutrition and video techniques that kids today have and I say yes. The problem today is that the average and bad kids are horrible and do not wrestle under control. They see the good kids scrambling and they try it in a match and get pinned. Why not drill the technique 1000+ times in practice before matches.
  6. Just a hunch but they are not keeping up with the rankings because no one has volunteered to do the girls rankings. If you know of someone that is knowledgeable and objective you may want to have them contact those individuals that are doing the rankings. The D2 rankings have not been updated on a regular basis because for a long time no one volunteered to do them.
  7. Absolutely the truth and it’s been that way since at least the early 70’s
  8. When speaking of illegal moves, over the years I have watched very good high school wrestlers that would lift and return their opponents to the mat. Often times if the opponent is not very skilled they will fall in an awkward way that make the maneuver illegal where with a good wrestler the maneuver would be perfectly legal because they know how to fall. I did not see the match that everyone is discussing so I will not comment about it.
  9. Let’s not blame the kid! It’s the coaches and medical personnel’s decision as to whether a kid may continue to wrestle. I have watched numerous wrestling coaches over the past years have the official start and then immediately stop the match so that the opponent does not take a loss if they are uncertain as to how injured the kid may be. I don’t know of any really successful coach that wants to win by virtue of a medical disqualification.
  10. I have always said that to win a state championship a team must get their average players to play better than the other teams average players and Maryville has consistently done this better than any other school. The good players on each team will normally cancel each other out.
  11. Summit has 2 or 3 really good kids that are surrounded by a group of kids that are still trying to climb to the top of the mountain
  12. He’s talking about the FR backup at 106 Daniel Marchetti
  13. Those Purple Catholics must have gone to mass before the match because I am not sure that they are capable of wrestling a better match.
  14. This looks like a pretty good poll. Rumor is that Ropski has dropped to 126. If that’s true I would have 1. Spencer Reep 2. Ropski 3. Gobbell At 152 we are hearing that Tisdale from Baylor is out for the season
  15. Let’s discuss the facts: 1. Father Ryan and Christian Brothers have agreed to wrestle Friday (2-3-2023) to decide the region champion. This match was schedule to be wrestled in Memphis but between the unrest in Memphis and the ice storm this week it was decided the match would be wrestled this Friday evening before the state duals on Saturday. Does anyone know where the match will be wrestled and what time it is scheduled to begin? 2. If Father Ryan is fortunate enough to get past CBHS they would then have to go head to head against MBA in the semifinals. The winner of that semifinal match would then likely have another difficult match with Baylor. It’s going to be fun with 3 teams actually very close to each other and depending on the matchups and which team recovers from the injuries, all three could win a state championship.
  16. Absolutely the truth. I am not sure that MBA does not come out on top in D2. With all the injuries that Baylor and Father Ryan are dealing with MBA could slip through the cracks and win the whole thing with a couple of breaks and good matchups.
  17. The real question is will Davidson County ever do what it takes to have good public schools again? IMO, the answer is yes but it will be due to major fortune 100 companies wanting to relocate to Nashville and demanding that MNPS be fixed immediately. I will say it again that Davidson County abandoned the public school system many years ago and while it will be very painful it can be fixed. You know that you have a screwed up public school system when no one is able to name the last Mayor of Davidson County that sent their children to high school in MNPS.
  18. As a graduate of MNPS we will agree to disagree about the zones that MNPS had in the 60;s and 70’s. Yes theoretically there were zones but all one had to do was take a class that one of the other schools didn’t offer and you were admitted to that school if you provided your own transportation. Research how many of those great baseball players for McGavock did not live in the zone or the football players for John Overton.
  19. I totally disagree that open zoning killed Metro Nashville Public Schools. What killed MNPS was the consolidation of all of the neighborhood/community schools into the comprehensive high schools. When this happened all of the schools lost the community and small business support. The end result was that the private schools flourished along with families that had small children moved outside of Davidson County. This can all be fixed but it will be very painful for many of the families/students and current community leaders of Davidson County. What I do know to be true is as Nashville continues to grow the businesses that relocate to Davidson County will “DEMAND” a great public school system for their employees.
  20. IMO, the city of Jackson, Tennessee totally abandoned the public school system years ago and they have demonstrated no desire to improve public education.
  21. How long has it been since a public school from Jackson, Tennessee won a state championship in mens basketball, baseball or track & field?
  22. In past years you would see some of the Catholic schools from Tennessee wrestle each other on Sunday. In the Northeastern part of the United States several of the high school wrestling tournaments are held on Saturday and Sunday so that kids don’t miss time away from school on Friday.
  23. Nothing like the NIL monies that are being reported at The Baylor School and The McCallie School which word on the street is around $250,000.00 per year. Being boarding schools, if those two schools want a kid and he is able to qualify academically they will get 99.9% of them.
  24. As long as boarding schools are allowed to bring in kids that have already established an athletic record and the TSSAA grants them immediate eligibility it's likely that the trend of boarding schools winning state championships will continue. Nothing at all against the boarding schools as they are playing by the rules but it's near impossible to compete with them under the current rules that are in place.
  25. The “COOL KID DIVA STUFF” is what I like to refer to as style over substance and I totally agree with you. The problem is that not only are the kids into that BS but you have both young coaches and parents that are walking down that same path. When the rubber has to meet the pavement those kids rarely rise to the top and get the job done because they have spent way too much time on the looking cool stuff and less time on what wins state championships.
