  1. Do the Tennessee high schools have to allow men to participate on the girls team in vollyball due to the fact that the TSSAA does not offer a mens program? If they don't would that not be reverse discrimination because the mens football and wrestling programs have to allow women the opportunity to participate?
  2. The wrestling staff @ the United States Military Academy does a great job with the camp and Harding Acadmey has wonderful facilities. This should be a camp that everyone wants to attend.
  3. As I see things the problem with both JP2 & Father Ryan is that both schools play in D2 but play by a self imposed different set of rules than the other schools in D2AAA. When it opened JP2 offered financial aid to non catholic students but I don't see that happening in the future. For the last several years Father Ryan has not offered financial aid to non catholic students. With the talent pool of catholic students being split between the two schools I feel that it is going to be difficult for the two schools to finish near the top of D2AAA unless they change their philosophy and seek out non catholic students and offer them all of the financial aid that they have been approved to accept.
  4. When you consider the fact that Brentwood High School is one of the top academic public schools in the United States (US News & World Report) I feel confident that Crawford wanted to stay at Brentwood due to his classroom situation.
  5. Mr. Jackie Fargo would have killed Flair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. MBA did a good job of spreading the field and Howe got the ball to the open receiver. There is just a big difference between the way most D2AAA teams use the passing attack and the way most D1 teams play. Goodpasture will probably not play any team that throws the ball 40%-50% of the time and honestly knows how to throw the ball.
  7. Little League Baseball is very weak not only in Tennessee but in the United States. The travel teams have taken 99% of the best talent and would run rule the Little League teams. If you want to see some good 12U teams go and watch the National American Tournament of Champions in Cooperstown, NY.
  8. Any association, school, business, etc... will only be as good as the people in charge. IMO, if your organization has been having trouble you need to take a long and hard look at who is running the organization.
  9. Until they win D2AAA they will not be the best. Did they not loose to Brentwood Academy?
  10. If student/athletes and their families select to transfer from public schools to a private school the public schools need to ask one question and that is why. Why are students leaving our school and going to the private schools? The private schools may or may not be better but the students and their families must feel like they will be in a better place. IMO, the inner city public schools are fine for the top 5% of the students and the lower 10% (special ed. and learning disabled) but they do not help the so called "middle of the road" student and often times keep those students from reaching their potential.
  11. No Pedialyte and Gatorlyte are different products. Gatorlyte is great but it is very difficult to find. I have been told that you must purchase a minium of $1500.00 of the product. Does anyone sell it without having to go direct?
  12. Drink 32oz of a sports drink before practice and 32oz of a sports drink after practice. You need to continue to drink during practice and it's a good idea to soak the players head with cold water during the breaks to keep their core body temperature from getting too hot. If a player get's dehydrated it takes about 72 hours for them to become hydrated again unless you give them iv's. This is why you see the college programs and elite high school programs giving the players iv's during halftime.
  13. Life is not fair!!!!!!! You do the best you can with what you have.
  14. This is very simple: Ravenwood broke a rule and they have now been punished for breaking the rule. IMO they received no advantage and they will be just fine during the season.
  15. Whites Creek & Pearl Cohn
  16. Would the correct language not be financial aid and not scholarships?
  17. I cannot remember the new head coaches name but Metro broke from their old tradition and went to California to hire the gentlemen.
  18. Why do you have to use the merit system for all sports? Could we not give it a try with football first and see how everyone likes it before we go overboard. I know that some people don't want to give the merit system a try because the just don't like change or they would have to play a more difficult schedule.
  19. What does size have to do with the line play? If I remember correctly DeLaSalle had several undefeated seasons and a few National Championships with lines that averaged 220#. Would any Tennessee school be willing to schedule DeLaSalle for a home and away?
  20. In the East Region a team will only have 3 league games and will have to search to find 7 more games to complete their schedule. How are they going to find those games and who will play them? Will they have to travel to Middle Tennessee and Memphis to complete their scheudle? The only reason that most public schools play private schools now is because they are forced to do it. The best plan that I have seen is to place everyone back together and use the "MERIT SYSTEM" for football. It would be fair for every school (both public and private) and it would reduce the travel for all schools. With the price of fuel continuting to rise we all need to look for ways to reduce cost.
  21. It is my opinion that families are drawn to private schools for various reasons (education, athletics, foreign exchange trips, religion, etc...) the same as they are drawn to public schools. How can you say that travel money should not be a factor with private schools? I have heard the number $30,000.00 floated around as to what one D2AAA school spent on travel for football and basketball last year. That number is crazy no matter how large your schools endowment may be. When schools are being forced to play a region schedule that does not allow them to get home from road games until 2:00am there is a problem and it needs to be corrected. JMO, but this will all be addressed when Brentwood Academy and the TSSAA sits down to workout the financial numbers for the recent attorney fees.
  22. I don't see any D1 schools going into D2AAA due to the amount of travel required and the money that it takes to travel. In fact I could see some D2AAA schools making the change to D1AAAA or D1AAAAA the same as Knoxville Catholic and Notre Dame did when given the opportunity. As the money starts to flow, I don't see Christian Brothers, Briarcrest, Father Ryan or Pope John Paul II being able to keep up with the spending that schools like Baylor, McCallie, MUS, Ensworth, MBA & Brentwood Academy are throwing into athletics. I could see some of these schools leaving the TSSAA for the old "MidSouth Prep School League" like many of the military academies and prep schools around the Southeast participated in during the 1950's-1970's.
  23. Brentwood Academy, McCallie, MBA, Christian Brothers & MUS would be able to play with any team in 5A and would be the favorite in most of the games. Father Ryan, JP2, Briarcrest & Baylor would be considered a good 5A teams and make the playoffs but would probably not be selected to win a 5A state championship. Don't forget that Father Ryan was on the bottom of D2 last season and they defeated a good Franklin team and made it look easy.
  24. Has Coach Flatt and Brentwood Academy secured the services of "Guidos Collection Agency" to vist Uncle Ronnie about paying the TSSAA's debt?
  25. You have to understand that the East Coast prep schools don't start their football season until after Labor Day which is about 3 weeks later than we start football here in Tennessee. It would be great to play the games on Thanksgiving Day for several reasons: 1. The weather is still fairly warm most of the time. 2. college students are home and can attend the game 3. families are home visiting for the holiday All of this would add up to big crowds and a great atmosphere.
