How many high school games had TD coached before he was named the head coach at Lipscomb?

    Ben Smith

I didn’t realize that Baylor still had a middle school team. For the past several years the middle school team was atrocious and that is being kind. They merely go out and recruit kids of need to fill the various weight classifications.
  3. Did Trent Dilfer have any coaching experience before landing at David Lipscomb?
  4. If the athletic program at Franklin High School were supported properly by the school board and administration they could have the best overall public school athletic program in Tennessee. The problem with Franklin and most schools for that matter is that those individuals that make the hiring decisions rarely know how to hire a successful coach. The students at Franklin are a mix of inner-city, blue collar, affluent, etc… so that all of the sports programs could be successful. It would require that all of the coaches were not only on the same page but were willing to share each others athletes.
  5. What is the correct age for true 8th graders? In the past I have known two different heads of private schools that would not admit 90% of 5 year old boys to kindergarten. She said that the vast majority of young boys were not ready to sit at a desk and take academic instruction from a teacher at five years of age. BTW, these ladies were at K-6 schools so it absolutely had nothing to do with athletics. As someone that began college at 17, I can say unequivocally that I was much too young and immature to be a college student/athlete. I was 17 and we had a 20 year old freshman on the team. There is a big difference between 17 and 20.
  6. 99.9% of academias in the United States do not feel as if it is possible to have both successful academics and athletics. The late Coach Bryan said that he had never heard of 100 thousand people paying good money to watch college students take a chemistry examination.
  7. I couldn't pass up watching such a great wrestling tournament in the South. My good friend who is a dentist in Nashville is sending his plane down to the Keys to pick me up and fly me back to watch this great event.
  8. The BGA alumni and families should be asking themselves if the board of trust are willing to do what it takes to have a successful (state championship caliber) football program. My initial guess would be NO.
  9. While this should be a sold-out event, I have my doubts if the MBA gymnasium will even be half full of paying spectators.
  10. You are absolutely correct about Vanderbilt! Prime Time wouldn’t be able to recruit quality athletes at Vandy.
  11. Pat Simpson of Father Ryan said that they are sending their JV to the Knoxville Catholic Tournament.
  12. The quick answer is that absolutely no one could win at Glencliff with the current state of affairs at Metro Nashville Public Schools. It’s not just an issue with Glencliff , as teams that win in the MNPS system do so in spite of the administration. Unless the students are in one of the academic magnet schools or the IB program the academics are well below average. The best athletes in Davidson County typically attend one of the many private schools to escape the chaos of MNPS.
  13. D2AAA football is like small college football and the remarkable thing is that the teams actually have depth.
  14. We will see just how good FR is this year as they are going to both Ironman @ Walsh Jesuit Ohio and Powerade. Even with all of this being said everyone has began to figure out that no one will really know who is in the FR lineup until the state duals.
  15. 1. I would be shocked if MTSU would even consider a high school coach 2. If I am not mistaken his retirement would be the same plan as he currently has 3. If by chance he were offered the job, there are 1 million reason to accept the job

Who’s Ricky trying to get back, Jonas, Paul Wade, Pack, McGugin?
  17. The best one to ever do the D2 rankings was Garrett House but he told me that it took him several hours each week to verify the results and compile the rankings.
  18. Anytime a school has less than 75% of its board members that are not alumni you have a problem. Of that minimum 75% of the alumni on the board you must have 50% of those alumni that were athletes at the school. The headmasters at most schools manipulate the boards and get “THEIR PEOPLE” on the board so that those board members have the headmasters back on everything.
  19. If the same individuals that hired the past three or four head football coaches are part of the decision making process why should the results be any different. Franklin needs to decide if they are willing to make the necessary sacrifices to win. It’s much easier to talk about being good but it requires a lot of sweat equity to develop a winning program.
  20. Or he can attend a board school and would be eligible immediately
  21. You are close to 100% correct. There are way too many people that are throughly embarrassed for things not to go back “OLD SCHOOL”. Let’s not forget that Randy Lowery and his West Coast philosophy has been removed and the old guard is back to controlling the checkbook and running things on the Lipscomb campus.
  22. Just an educated guess but with Mrs. McQueen and the folks at Hillsboro CofC being in charge of the checkbook/decisions you will see David Lipscomb High School go back to their roots and try to win with the lifers and a few other kids mixed in. I would be shocked if they try to become one of the top programs in the country.
  23. Yes, the clearing house determines the exact amount of financial aid that a family qualifies for. However, the school may offer 100% of the amount that a student qualifies for, or they may offer much less than what the clearing house says that the student qualifies for. It is my understanding that there are three different clearing houses, and some are more generous with the way they calculate the aid qualified for than the other ones. Each individual school determines which clearing house or houses they wish to use.
  24. Let’s understand that each individual private school has catastrophic insurance in place now. That theory (scare tactic) that the TSSAA has always promoted is old and is not true. What about those prep schools in the Northeast that are not members of their local state athletic association? Look at IMG Academy in Florida, they play a national schedule. Do you think for one minute that they don’t have CATASTROPHIC INSURANCE? It’s time for the Tennessee Private Schools to put on their DEPENDS. This would only work if ALL of the private schools in Tennessee would stick together.
  25. Will this be the beginning of the end for the Tennessee private schools competing under the umbrella of the TSSAA? IMO, the minute the private schools were forced into divisions that have less that 50 teams they should have terminated all contracts with the TSSAA and formed a private school league that is separate from the TSSAA. The only thing that the TSSAA and the public schools want from the private schools is money!
