  1. Martin Francis (Chattanooga Notre Dame) was the only wrestler to become a 4X state champion prior to the split. IMO, if there had never been a split you would have no more than five or six 4X state champions.
  2. I am pretty confident that Philip Simpson was a 4X state champion at 4 different weight classifications. He was so small his freshman year and really began to grow.
  3. Cleveland definitely looked great last weekend! The question that I have is in a combined state tournament (like it was for so many years) how many champions would Cleveland have this year and how many points would they be ahead of the 2nd place team?
  4. The parents and some of the officials need to watch the elite NCAA D1 wrestlers. It’s difficult to see it on TV but the physicality of the elite wrestlers is at another level. IMO, the coaches should be teaching a more physical and aggressive style of wrestling.
  5. Unfortunately some people just don’t need to be around young adults. I was told by my father and I relayed the same message to my kids; take the best from everyone and never forget it, but take the worst from people and place it in file 13. Always remember that you should not worry about how the message is delivered but pay attention to what is in the message that is being delivered.
  6. Again, if the official forces both wrestlers to wrestle and does not allow one wrestler to stall you should have some points scored. IMO, a 2-1 SV match equates to some serious stalling going on when the wrestlers were on their feet.
  7. If this match takes place it could easily come down to how the match is officiated. If the official allows the match to be slowed down and one wrestler to back out of bounds, wrestle on the edge tie up wrist and basically do nothing in will be a huge advantage to one wrestler. However, if the official hits the wrestlers early for stalling or delay of match for backing up and not taking legitimate shots the wrestler with a high pace and style will benefit greatly.

    Penn State

I have heard that Bassett getting 5 million is true but that is not per year. The money is to be spread over the next 6 years. Still a lot of money for a 18 year old young man to wrestle. It was just a few short years ago that USA Wrestling was discussing paying the number 1 guy per weight classification 150K, the number 2 guy 100k, number 3 guy 75K and the number 4 guy per weight 50K. Times have sure changed in a short period of time.

    Penn State

Currently Penn State is a great team. However, in the future unless they have the most NIL money they will be left behind at the train station. With the way the rules are currently being applied if a wrestling team has 5 million dollars per season in NIL money they could have kitchen help coaching them and they would win. The best kids are going to get the most money and all you have to do is follow the money.
  10. If what you are saying is true, again I see how in no way how it would affect rural schools because few if any kids would be leaving due to the long commute to a private school. We will all learn more if and when the federal department of education is indeed eliminated as it has been discussed.
  11. How does the voucher program affect the rural (Class A and AA) schools? Most of them are such a long drive (min 1 hour) from where the kids currently attend school to a private school that I personally don’t see much of a change. Yes, they could possibly attend a boarding school but those schools will offer 100% of the financial aid or even NIL monies so that does not appear to be an issue. Why were the rural counties so against the vouchers?
  12. It would be really interesting to see which team would win the state individual tournament if it were a combined tournament. Who does a really tough tournament favor as the team with good average wrestlers would have trouble scoring points with average kids.
  13. Bond wrestled a few matches at 132lb. Would he try to bump up to 132lb and challenge Cole Gumlick (Lakeway) or Brody Gobbell (Father Ryan)
  14. I have been told by coaches in Florida that it’s a complete S*** Show. You have kids playing for one school on Friday night and another school the following Friday night. The horse is out of the barn and everyone knows that TSSAA was basically broke after the Brentwood Academy lawsuit and if they were not part of the State of Tennessee they would have been bankrupt. The TSSAA will not challenge the transfer rule.
  15. You may be shocked by what my total assets are!
  16. I hope that they don’t drug test or do psychological evaluations on your job because your prediction is no more than a personal dream. If you really believe that your prediction is correct I want some of that action. I got a 25 million large ones that DB is not even in the finals!
  17. If Bobby Bentley stays they will dominate high school football in Tennessee
  18. Personally I would never take a job where the expectations are not to win a state title. It’s all about winning.
  19. The real questions are as follows: 1. Does LC have enough talent to win a state championship 2. Will the kids work hard enough to win a state championship 3. What will it take to get both the parents and community to support a new coaching staff. From my experience very few people fully understand the amount of hard work it takes to win a state championship and even fewer people are willing to work hard enough to win a state championship. Before anyone pops off about LC not being capable of winning state championships, why do you coach and play the game if it's not to win a state championship?
  20. D2 will be a much better tournament than D1. It would be fun if everyone was back together and fighting it out for a championship.
  21. I’ll believe that Jones pulls his money when I see it. If he does pull his money from wrestling the program will tank in a short period of time.
  22. I was looking online and did not remember all of the college wrestling programs that we once had in Tennessee. How has this affected the high school programs in Tennessee? Just trying to remember all of the officials, high school coaches and club coaches that competed at one of these programs. IMO, if most of these programs were still in existence, Tennessee would be a top 10 state in wrestling. Sewanee, Maryville, East Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee (8th in NCAA), Tennessee Tech, University of Tennessee @ Martin, Middle Tennessee State University and Carson Newman
  23. Let’s be honest and say that if healthy no one can compete with Cleveland. It may be that Cleveland’s JV could finish as the state runner up.
  24. How is it that Cleveland High School can be so good in wrestling but so average in all the other sports? Don't say that it's money because the "SUGAR DADDY" would gladly give to the other sports if they proved to work as hard as the wrestling program.
  25. With as many kids as Cleveland has in the room, do they not have someone that could go at 144lb so they don’t have to give up a FF. I don’t care if the kid is good or bad, I just hate to see a forfeit
