  1. I have heard the exact same thing about the headmaster. Several BA alumni feel as if the football coach and his staff also need to leave after this season.
  2. It's probably more like "LIGHT YEARS" than miles apart. There is no comparison if Pearl Cohn is healthy
  3. It would really make the Board of Trust at both schools look like idiots if they terminate the headmaster and head football coach as they approved both hires. I agree that BA should terminate both the headmaster and head football coach but I don’t feel that will even be considered. I do know that BA has had a massive turnover with the faculty and the local alumni are not happy. Until BA get’s back to their roots they will never be as successful as they once were. BA does not appear to have the same size and athleticism in the trenches as past BA teams.
  4. Absolutely not as that would make the administration look like idiots
  5. Let’s see if FR can stop what has been reported as a 26 game losing streak to MBA next Friday night.
  6. The headmaster was a douche bag that should have never been hired. I knew shortly after meeting his that he was a politician that would tell everyone what he thought they wanted to hear. Needless to say the school and community are much better off with him gone.
  7. Everyone can rest assured that the last thing the TSSAA want's is to be tied up in a long-drawn-out legal battle with a D2 school that has the money or "FREEE" attorneys to fight them. The last time this happened the TSSAA almost went bankrupt fighting against Brentwood Academy, and they won the case. In reality did they really win, or would they have been better off burying their head in the sand and allowing BA to do whatever they wanted? Yes, the TSSAA really wants this to go away, and they hope that no other schools force the issue, so they are not required to investigate anything.
  8. You should be fine! How many high school teams are able to replace a 4* QB with a 3* QB? From an outsiders point of view the 4* was a great athlete but he really needs some major work on his mechanics and knowledge of how to play the position. If the 4* had been developed by Trent he could have been great but that didn’t happen.
  9. The question is was he living in a dorm on the Lipscomb campus? A rumor was floated last year that a few of the players were living in dorms on the college campus.
  10. How many high schools in the country are able to replace a 4* QB with a 3* QB. This may be a blessing in disguise for David Lipscomb High School because from what I watched the 4* played hard and was very athletic but his grasp of the offense and throwing mechanics needed a lot of work. I know nothing about the young man or his family but it would be very difficult for most high school aged boys to leave their home and move several hours away and go to a new school. Not even discussing the athletic part of this equation but the social and academics must also be considered.
  11. So, is Logan Paradice back at The Baylor School after abruptly leaving last season?
  12. 90+% of the time the high school coaches are not calling players and recruiting. The recruiting is being done by current players, youth football coaches and others that live in the community.
  13. Overall team speed and execution will win the game.
  14. I completely agree that it’s not an “either or” issue! The problem is that a high percentage of academicians DO NOT believe that academics and athletics are able to coexist and both be great. I personally had one headmaster tell me that when athletics become great the tail begins to wag the dog and while he felt that it is perfectly fine for kids to participate in athletics he didn’t really care if the teams won championships. When I posed the question of how he would feel if the chemistry department had the same results as the football team he immediately informed me that those were two completely different scenarios and walked away. Needless to say it took 10+ years to get his contract terminated due to a weak Board of Trust and the athletic department of the school is in shambles.
  15. Exactly and other boarding schools are doing the same thing. I just want to know why the Board of Control would not vote like over 85% of the membership requested?
  16. I am not concerned about recruiting as it goes on everywhere but when the member schools of the TSSAA vote 85+ to require that athletes sit out one full academic year before becoming eligible, the Board of Control should honor that request. If done correctly there is very little way for schools to compete against Baylor and McCallie. Schools like St. Andrews Sewanee and Webb School have not decided to fund football like the above-mentioned schools but if they do, they will become competitive immediately.
  17. As long as the boarding schools are allowed to bring in kids from all over the world that have established an athletic record and they are immediately eligible it’s going to be difficult to win.
  18. The more time the injury is allowed to heal naturally before putting it under the extreme stress of competition should aid with a complete recovery. This dual means absolutely nothing and there is no reason to risk injury in the early preseason.
  19. It would be fine with me if people decided they didn't want to schedule us! The ones that did place us on the schedule would be treated more that fairly and we would all keep our end of the contract! It's really a sad state of affairs when you have to have strict contracts for a high school football game, but the issue is not me, it's that people don't keep their word and can't be trusted.
  20. IMO, the problem with paying the head football coach at the D2AAA schools so much money is that they often make more money than the head of the school! Never underestimate the power of jealousy! I was told by both a BA alum and former coach that the headmaster was bad news, and he would eventually be fired for not supporting athletics to the level that BA alumni are accustomed to seeing.
  21. Like it or not the David Lipscomb High School fans got spoiled by Trent Dilfer. There is a lot of difference between an NFL QB that won a Super Bowl and someone that was an NFL offensive lineman! This is not to say that Kevin Mawae will not figure it out because what Trent did was unbelievable. I will say that when TD took over the Lipscomb program it was not far from being on the bottom and he led them to the top. With that being said Kevin walked into a great situation.
  22. Totally agree that Pearl Cohn is the best team in MNPS. In most years I would say that the MBA win was a great win but after watching MBA, I am beginning to feel like they may not have one of their better teams. If you don’t have a great QB in high school football it’s extremely difficult to win against good teams. MBA was fortunate to have a great 4* QB the past four seasons.
  23. After watching the game last night your new QB could use a lot of training and coaching by TD. IMO, he is a good athlete but his fundamentals and decision making skills are a long way from being a 4* QB. In high school football a team must have great decision making skills from the QB position if you want to win against the elite teams. You can’t merely “out athlete” ever team you play!
  24. Just like a legal case you should recoup more than just the cost of what you would financially lose! It’s really very simple, if you don’t want to write a check for 25K+ then don’t sign the contract or if you do don’t cancel the game. I have absolutely no issues with people canceling games but it’s far more than the monetary cost as you also have to look at the team that had the game canceled. That school, players, band members, cheerleaders, parents and coaches were denied the opportunity to do what they love to do and that is participate in the high school football game atmosphere. I am very much aware of the fact that schools in Tennessee don’t require anywhere close to 25K for someone that backs out of a contract. What I have stated on other threads is that as an entrepreneur I am most cognizant of the cost of doing business and not fulfilling a contract. If I were a high school or college athletic director I would write the contract so that if you made a conscious decision to not fulfill your end of a contract it would severely damage your checkbook. We are not talking about a school that had a bus wreck on the way to the game or the head coach passed away the day before the game. In closing I would not only require a contract with a minimum of $25K cancellation fee but I would also include a clause that “ALL” legal fees would be paid by the school that canceled the contract and the case would be heard in the county with which my school is located! Oh and yes before you say it I am a stickler for the rules and considered by many to be a hard a**. However, I am really easy to work with as long as everyone does what they say they are going to do and doesn’t try to skirt the rules.
  25. Something has to be done to get everyone’s attention! This is happening every year and it needs to be stopped. IMO, this is where those idiots on Lebanon Road in Hermitage, TN (TSSAA) need to take a stance and force the schools to sign contracts that say if you back out of a contract the fine is substantially more than they are today. Believe me when I say that if the fine were 25K, Harding would have played the game. Using simple math: if it cost $10.00 per person to gain admission to a high school football game and you have 1500 paid attendance that is an immediate loss of 15K not counting the concessions. The average person spends $5.00 at the concession stand. The concession stand loss would be $7500.00 for a total loss of $22,500.00. Let’s not forget that these public schools must not only support the football team but help support all of the other sports teams at the school.
