Much bigger drop for McCallie than I would have expected... not sure that was warranted.

I think the point is that since Cooper is wrestling his high school competition in Maryland that it would be tough to put him in a list compiled from freshmen wrestling for TN high schools. I am willing to bet if we look that there is at least one GA resident in that list but he is competing for a TN high school, just the inverse situation. I am sure TN will happily claim Cooper at events like Southeast Regionals, Cadet / Junior Duals, and Fargo if he does come back to TN in the spring / summer. I don't think his exclusion from this list has anything to do with not wanting to claim Cooper... he just doesn't fit the parameters they are looking at. Not to mention, that if we are being realistic, the list is compiled by a national service that is just data mining and wouldn't look into that kind of depth.

Kaleb Baker was also a runner-up in the 15U division, can't remember the weight. Lost to Tyler Manion who wrestled for Clarion if memory serves me correctly.

Anyone looking to take this on, in my opinion, is a bit of a masochist. The amount of events you would have to go through to do it right, assumptions you would need to make, etc. make my head hurt. Of course that is if you take a super detailed approach to it like I do / did with DII rankings. Ultimately I would rather that there not be rankings for middle school kids but this is a personal opinion.

Scott, Interested to know why you thought it looked tougher on paper. Maybe you are seeing something I am over-looking. Only major change for Baylor was Pace officially in at 138, right? Otherwise looked like the same line-up they put out at KC. As for Brother Martin, doesn't look that different to me... 11 of the 14 wrestlers are the same (2 swapped weighs). At two of the weights where they had changes the wrestlers didn't really contribute many points in either tournament (160 and 182). At 160 they placed about the same in both events so some improvement there. At 182 the two wrestlers look pretty darn equivalent. It looked like their only major upgrade was at 120. That looks like typically changes for most teams from early season to mid-season to me.

Just going to share some opinions on your comments here... 1) Granite City is not as tough / deep as Kansas City. Granite City is a very good tournament but not what Kansas City is, though Kansas City wasn't as tough as it has been in the past in terms of upper-level national talent and ranked teams. CBHS did have a better showing at Granite City than Kansas City, jumping some teams that finished ahead of them in KC but different tournament make-up in terms of depth, etc. as well as different line-ups. 2) Coach Lewis already addressed the naming convention for Granite City... I think this is something like the 53rd year of that tournament. 3) I think you are overselling the Prep Slam just a smidgen there... the 13th place team was MBA... not even ranked as top 12 in TN right now. Jesuit from LA was 12th... they finished 28th at Kansas City. The second place team, Brother Martin, LA took 2nd to CBHS at Black Horse earlier this year. A good tournament but like most tournaments the strength varied quite a bit from weight to weight.

CBHS has never cracked the top 25 (in any reputable poll), nor has any TN team in the time that I have been following wrestling in the state or that I have seen covered in my searches through history. not saying it hasn't happened but I don't believe it has happened in the modern timeframe where I think national rankings are a little more solid, etc. as the exposure has grown so much in the last decade and a half or so. The 2011-2012 CBHS team ended the year ranked 47th in the nation by Intermat. I believe that they got as high as the mid-30's that season after they knocked off the previous #30 ranked team, Blue Springs (MO), who had finished a few spots ahead of them in KC. That dual score was somewhere around 35-18. I think the dual with Soddy Daisy earlier in the year was closer but we all know duals are about match-ups, etc. As someone mentioned, CBHS finished 6th at the Kansas City Invitational / Stampede (can't remember which name it was using then). I could probably dig up some snapshots of those mid-season rankings to know exactly what it was they were ranked but that might take me some time. The 2012-2013 CBHS team also ended the year ranked 47th in the nation by Intermat. They only managed a 14th place finish at Kansas City that season but were missing some starters including defending champion Kaleb Baker. I don't remember how high their ranking climbed during the season that year. I do think that was the year they set the scoring record at the Granite City Tournament they won over a tough Archer team out of GA. They also had some big wins over traditional powers like Mater Dei (IN) and Merrilville (IN). I think they took a lose to Pope (GA) at the Cleveland Duals that year as their only lose. There have been very few SE teams that have entered the top 25 through the years. Brandon (FL) was up there for quite a while and right now Lake Highland Prep seems to be representing Florida in the national rankings. GA has had some teams that have made it that high in the past like Collins Hill and Archer from what I remember. As has been mentioned here before there always seems to be a rotating power in the Atlanta, GA that can get into the rankings... Collins Hill, Pope, Archer, etc. and then Camden has been strong as of late. Beyond that national ranking representation in the SE is hard to find. Teams really have to get out and hit the bigger events where the other ranked teams will be and then you have to be able to hold your own and pick-up wins if you want a chance to crack into those rankings. Very few people in the state really understand what a team competing at that level looks like and what it takes to get there.

I think nearly all of the teams that I saw were short at least one wrestler. I don't think any of them are going to use that as a crutch but all will figure things could be different later in the year.

I will echo that... never can watch live but really enjoyed the archive of the first two... are you guys going to be able to go back to posting them?

Cleveland and CBHS going at it right now based on TrackWrestling scores so looks like it will be Cleveland, CBHS, and McCallie in the top 3 slots.

That doesn't make any sense... if McCallie, Cleveland, and CBHS all won their pools then they should be wrestling each other.

They will take the 1's from each of the three pools and place them in a 3-team round robin. Same for the 2's, etc.

What I have seen so far from some of the more interesting matches: CBHS over Baylor. Bradley Central won a close one over Arlington. BC also got a win over Beech. Arlington won a close one over Beech.

Going to be a very interesting day of wrestling... wish I could have made the trip up. Hopefully be able to catch some of it on the stream. I am expecting some really good duals in most of those pools.

Nice to see CBHS finally get back on top at Black Horse... Brother Martin always brings a very tough team. That was a heck of a team race and they needed some help from other teams to knock off the BM kids here and there. I am excited to see what CBHS can do this year, especially as the line-up shakes out at a few weights and everyone gets into mid-season form.

Going to be a great event, sad I won't be able to make it up to watch. Always interesting to see what the team rosters look like this event because it always seems one or two teams are missing a starter for ACT, football all-stars, etc. on this weekend and it makes for some shuffling, etc. to try and cover. Not to mention the general descent plan issues that some teams are likely still working through. Going to be some great duals even in the pools, let alone once you get to the cross-brackets.

I tried to listen for a while at work but the background noise was drowning out a lot of what Al was saying... not sure if the sound between the two video feeds could be balanced a bit better. Yes I know I am nit-picking!

I saw Justin Becci (Brentwood Academy) get the start for the Air Force Academy today against Minnesota. Another that I didn't see listed early was Trevor Brown (CBHS) at West Virginia. Believe he is out with an injury right now.

Bumping this up again as we are getting closer to registration deadlines and starting to see registrations get entered. Looking to be a good field again based on clubs I am hearing from. Those of you who aren't already locked into leagues where you can't compete outside come on down and join us.

This allows your newer wrestlers to get quality mat time at the right level and your more experienced wrestlers to get mat time against other quality competition. I would expect Cockman to be eligible... believe the family moved.

Unfortunately it looks like Mason lost his first match in the repechage. Still a great opportunity for him to gain that experience traveling and wrestling internationally while representing USA. Definitely a limited set of TN wrestlers that have represented the US internationally. There are probably a few wrestlers that have taken part in some international tours where they were likely part of a US delegation but not a representative of USA in an official FILA / UWW championship or event. Tommy Brackett did recently represent the USA at the JR Pan-American championships in Greco-Roman where he picked up a silver medal. Christian Salter wrestled in the Cadet Pan-Am's but that was representing Puerto Rico.

That is true, I didn't catch the peice about this being a repeat year for him.

Technically Garrison would be able to wrestle varsity for Baylor if they so chose. Baylor is one of the few schools where an 8th grader can compete HS varsity.
