  1. Melton still basketball coach at LA By MAC McLEOD, OCN Sports “Richard is our coach at Livingston Academy and will be staying with us. We have had some issues that we had to work through, but we feel those issues have been addressed and we are now ready to move forward.” With that statement, Overton County Director of Schools Michael Gilpatrick dispelled rumors that have been running wild the past week that Livingston Academy head boys basketball coach Richard Melton had been terminated. Apparently the word got out last Wednesday that Melton met with new Livingston Academy Principal Randy Hankins and came away with the impression that he had been fired. He even notified some of his players that he was terminated, and on Thursday, some players and parents met with Director Gilpatrick to discuss the issue. “First let me say that Coach Melton was never terminated,” Gilpatrick said Monday afternoon, June 4. “I am the one who hires and fires, and I never fired Coach Melton, therefore, he’s not terminated. “We have met with Coach Melton several times over the past months to discuss certain things, and hopefully we now have all that worked out and he knows what we expect of him as the head basketball coach at Livingston Academy. “Coach Melton is a young coach, and from what we have seen of him over the past two years, he will be a successful coach. He’s passionate about the game and wants to do a good job. We appreciate that and try to understand what he is trying to do. “Sometimes that passion has created some issues, but with maturity that will come with the job, things should work out for all concerned.” Gilpatrick went on to add that Coach Melton’s ability has never been questioned, and his win-loss record will not be a factor in his employment at Livingston Academy. “There has already been too much talking about this,” Gilpatrick added. “Perhaps everyone can learn something from this and put it behind us. “Coach Melton and the team left this morning (Monday) for basketball camp, and we look forward to this year’s season. The team has been strong in the past two years, and maybe this year it will be even stronger. “But we must not forget that our main goal here is education, and we want to graduate young people and improve test scores just as much as we want our athletic teams to win games.” Overton County News was unsuccessful in attempts to reach Coach Melton for comment before press time.
  2. He is only under a minor league contract right now. It would be funny if he was unable to make the start Saturday, that they cut him and did not have to pay him a dime of his huge contract.
  3. Jim Brown, Larry White, Lamar Rogers, Brent Smith....talk about some great coaching....should be some great games.
  4. York Institute has had coaching shake ups in basketball. Bruce Winningham has stepped down as girls coach, being replaced by Tonya Storie and boys coach Ernie Winningham has stepped away and Derwin Wright(principal and football coach) has taken over, since there were no teaching postions available to bring someone new in.
  5. It was a nasty collision from what I was told, both got shook up pretty good. Information I have is...catcher is going to have a big headache for a while but nothing major and the third baseman has a crack on a facial bone, believe around her eye. Both of these ladies play hard all the time. Good luck to both teams on Monday and make it an all 7A region final.
  6. Outstanding game yesterday, all you have to do is win one game today and your champs and get a home game Monday.
  7. On Monday....RBS beat HS, Clay County beat Clarkrange, and I am going to assume Jackson County beat Pickett County.
  8. I agree coach, people who run camps should not be ashamed to pay for advertising, especially since they are going to make so much off the exposure this site gives them.
  9. Cards GM bans alcohol in clubhouse. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2860692
  10. When the GM was talking about players on the team talking to him about his drinking in ths past, I knew what was coming next.
  11. That's a great idea Queen... /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> Is Trey's assistant still around, can't think of his name...would he be interested?
  12. It's at Jackson County..and I think they are supposed to play Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday..at least.
  13. Saw today that they have calculated that if he stays on this pace, he will hit 146 homeruns and have 360 RBIs this season. It will never happen, but I do believe that would over shadow what Bonds is doing in San Fran.
  14. Great win CCHS....now tied for first. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  15. Take a look at the KHSAA website below, there are a ton of girls basketball jobs open right now. http://laser-engraving.com/khsaa_jobs/

  17. They are going to have to figure out what teaching positions they are going to have open after any retirements and consolidation.
  18. MTSCA is a great orgainization run by some very fine people. I hope all coaches who are members of the MTSCA do this as well as those that are not members. We are all praying from Kayla Cantrell.
  19. Remember Sid Bream rounding third in that huge game...chugging along on two bad knees.
  20. So true, but will they be around to defend the title in October???
