  1. Kelsey Risner at Wayne County. Averaging over 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. Handles it, guards, and passes on top of the stats. Helped bring home the gold ball in 2011. In the 1400 point area for her career.
  2. I am a Cocke County graduate and moved 300 miles away about 15 years ago. When I got up on Saturday morning and checked the Coacht scoreboard and saw 29-28, I did a double take. Cocke County beating Jefferson County is a big deal and always will be. Old guys like me from many miles away still keep up with Big Red football. I'm proud of the new coach and the kids. They are turning this thing around. Keep up the good work.
  3. I grew up watching Science Hill vs. Dobyns Bennett. Bolivar and Liberty Tech is the new great rivalry. Two of the four games went to overtime and all of them were decided by single digits. I wish Arnett Bodenhammer the best of luck. I have known him for a long time, but this will be a war.
  4. Anybody who gets up and leaves after their team plays on Wednesday is not a basketball fan. I'm going to sit there all day to watch this one.
  5. I sent Ben Dotson a rabbit's foot, four-leaf clover, and a St. Patrick's Day t-shirt to wear to the drawing. So much for superstition.
  6. Just my two cents worth as far as the lateral move part goes, I agree on the exterior it appears like a wash at best. But I have interviewed in both school systems within the past 5 years, and the pay and benefits in Murfreesboro city are better. Actually, quite a bit better.
  7. I agree with playboysb. It's Melrose. Everyone else is playing for second.
  8. I talked to another coach in Murfreesboro today, and he seconded the Thomas statement, but he also said that Troy Bond would be the other contender. So it looks like Thomas or Bond.
  9. I am not from any of these places, so I think I am objective. Dyer County and Bolivar have been very impressive with their crowds at the state tournaments in the past. Lawrence County brings huge crowds now. But my all-time memories are Science Hill and Dobyns Bennett when Pitts was in Johnson City and Buck was in Kingsport. They would play in arenas that held several thousand, and if you didn't get there waaaay early, you could forget getting in.
  10. I hear from a person today who applied for the job that it could very well be Kevin Thomas.
  11. I talked to a coach who competed against both teams. He says Wayne County.
  12. If you put a gun to my head, I'm probably pulling for Liberty Tech. But whoever wins will have to go through Fulton. Until somebody beats them, they are the man.
  13. Lets wait and see the draw. Remember, Humboldt and Manassas had to play each other in the first round last year.
  14. Congrats to both teams. Although I don't live in West Tennessee, I have known Arnett Bodenhammer for years and am very happy to see him get to the Boro. He had a lot of pressure stepping into this position, but he showed in his first year that he belongs and can do the job.
  15. I saw a lot of Perry County adults insulting Wayne County's players, chasing officals, and cursing David Lee before he could get off the floor last night. Nobody saw a junk talking game on the floor, but saw an all-out hard played game in the 4th quarter. And after the game you saw Wayne County and Perry County players hugging each other even after they came out of the locker room. But I know that the Perry County program in no way is represented by the junk that is posted on this message board. I think Coach Lee and the players have represented themselves proudly everytime I have seen them play. Sadly, a lot of their adults can't say the same.
  16. Summertown has done a good job controlling the games' tempo, but you can do that with a solid point guard. The matchups I saw between the Eagles and Wildcats, Summertown had the early lead for the most part and made Wayne County come out and defend. In the District championship game, Summertown's zone really slowed the game down, but Jordan Chard was the equalizer there with a big second half of mid-range pullups. I felt like Perry County's quickness on the perimeter negated Clifton's ability to finish off the bounce.
  17. First let me say that I agree with Hooplove and his posts. These kids on both sides are gamers. I have known Tyler for a couple of years and even had a chance to coach him, and people take him the wrong way. A lot of things he and Austin do is overblown because he has had a bullseye on his back because of his visibility. He has confidence on the floor or field, but successful players have to have that swagger. Off the field he is very reserved, even to the point of being shy and bashful. But he is a great kid. Let me say also that all of the coaches involved are competitors as well. Generally, the people who poor mouth players and coaches are fans of the opposing team. I'm sure Trotter, Franks, and Lee have many people who do not like them because they only see them on the sidelines, but all three are great individuals. Now about the games, I haven't seen Mt. Pleasant play, but I think Summertown will have a solid gameplan. If Mt. Pleasant can't score in half-court, Trotter will go zone defensively and slow the game down to a crawl on offense by spreading the court and letting Bubba Clifton take over. Perry County and Wayne County is anybody's guess. There is one intangible that nobody is discussing. This is the first time the Vikings have been the hunted and Wayne County the hunter. How will the teams respond to this role? The Wildcats have heard for a week that they don't have a chance and the Vikes have been getting pats on the backs. This should be a great game that is decided in the fourth quarter by who plays looser yet plays under control. Good luck to everyone.
  18. I agree with both sides. Wayne County has played a horrible schedule. In fact, McEwen and CA are two of the worst teams I have ever seen. But I still think they are very good. Guys like Graham, the Rices, Warren, and Bevis are really good 1A players. From a fan's perspective, I wish they would play Adamsville, Giles Co., or someone of that ilk.
  19. Tyler was 4-8, 122 yards passing, and 3 touchdowns. Austin didn't play, so hopefully they will air it out more in the future.
  20. I have a friend in high school coaching, whose team went to the state tournament last year and would have certainly gotten an interview had he applied. When I asked him why he wouldn't go after this job, he told me that there wasn't a lot of talent coming up. They say you don't want to be the guy who replaces the guy. I feel that King's legacy may scare off potential applicants.
  21. Jerome Carter, a 1,000 yard back for Cocke County back in the late 80's, died Sunday. He, his wife, and both of his young children passed away in a horrible automobile accident that claimed five lives. There are stories in the Newport Plain Talk and in the archives section of the Atlanta Journal Constitution. I knew Jerome well back in the day, and he was one of the best people I have ever known. He came from a great family, and always made them proud. This is a tragic loss.
  22. 35-19 Temple with 3:00 left to go in the second, according to the CoachT Scoreboard.
  23. Should be a good game. I'll say this for Summertown, nobody will play harder, and they relish the thought of being the dog. Nobody picked them to get out of the region. Collinwood and Culleoka were both ranked, and Trotter pulled an upset in back to back games. Don't sleep on them, they have been in this situation before.
  24. Brandon is a great young man who is very mature and hard working. I wish him all the best.
