  1. I heard he withdrew his name a few weeks back. I doubt they can afford Smith and will probably end up with a rookie head coach. I could be wrong.
  2. Shadow: you are older than Methuselah and you know everything there is to know about metro schools so who is going to get the Whites Creek job?
  3. This is the problem with coaching FB in the 21st century. YES, a head coach is hired to teach boys the wonderful game of football and winning games is a big part of the contract but HIGH SCHOOL football is about much more than just winning. Anyone who doesn't understand that has their priorities all screwed up. These are high school kids, not professional athletes. Head coaches do not get to go out and put together a staff in 95% of the high schools in America. You have to raise most of your revenue through endless fundraisers, car washes, and golf scrambles. I could hardly call it just about winning. Now I'm going to tell you as both a head coach and an assistant coach I have spent many hours helping kids get through high school and that has little to do with my job as a coach under your job description of a coach. I have been a motivator, teacher, coach, guidance counselor, legal adviser, and yes, spiritual adviser and part-time male role model. Any successful head football coach has learned to do many things that are far beyond the call of duty. In the end we all hope we can win the big game, get the gold ring, and have our photo on the cover of Murphy Fair and the Tennessean but it is almost all meaningless in the big scope of things if we do not make a difference in a young man's life. We are TEACHER FIRST and COACHES TOO. IT IS A TWO FOR ONE PACKAGE! If I have to choose between the gold ring and being a positive influence that changes the life of a handful of young men I will choose the later. I have known some great coaches like Madewell that were better men and coaches than other men who had a better winning percentage. Chris Madewell took a program that was in total disarray after Tidwell through the helmet and hit the kid at halftime. How quickly we forget how far he brought this team. I do not live in WC but I know the whole story. Chris is a first class teacher and coach and I would rather have him coaching my team than about half of the men I know in this business with better winning records because he will teach them how to be men.
  4. Is Scott Smith or Steve Britton the next head coach at WCHS?
  5. HHS has only four home games in 2010. How do you fund a program if you don't even make enough money to cover the game expenses?
  6. Jack would be a good one. He was a proven winner at Brentwood after John Ash left in the mid 90's. There are several former head coaches looking for work. What about bringing Coach Smith back? Or maybe one of the coaches in Rutherford County?
  7. A coach was hired but I don't know his name.
  8. What about Red Roberts or Jackie Bennett? Both have solid coaching credentials and are already on staff at Indy? Who were the top candidates for the position?
  9. Congratulations to Coach Massey. Good luck in your new position. You've got a coach with many years of experience give him your support and you should be fine.
  10. Big Chief: If you don't mind can you tell us a little more about HHS. I know you have a good relationship with the folks in Metro. 1. Does the county kick in any money for sports at HHS? 2. I know you said the gates were low, what kind of average gate can one expect? 3. What kind of numbers does HHS have on Varsity and JV? 4. How many assistant coaches are provided in Metro? 5. How will the new zoning affect HHS?
  11. Downside to this position is you must be an active member of the Church of Christ and you can't be divorced or separated. I understand being a Christian and having a strong moral and Godly testimony but no other denomination including Catholic schools require the coach to be a member of their denomination. This could be a good situation for the right candidate but the strict hiring requirements of the COC will greatly limit their options.
  12. Wingman: Scott is not a bad coach. He does what most coaches do, he works the talent he is given. I know his actions may be offensive to some but overall I think his resume is solid. Not like Rankin but that goldring is hard to come by and he still holds the record.
  13. Football is football! Cloudland owned every team that season and were the favorites going into that game. I would suggest to you that Alcoa could measure up to almost any 6A team this year so class ranking doesn't mean much.
  14. Scott Smith is a great fb coach. I would like to remind you he holds the record for offensive yardage and points in the state championship series defeating a 14-0 Cloudland.
  15. Coffee County is STILL IN as the number 2 team behind Cookeville. They do not have any district losses and could upset Cookeville next Friday night. Both Cookeville and Coffee Co will be in the playoffs and one less wildcard will get into the quad. Smyrna or Indy will be the wildcard. 1. Mt Juliet 2. R-Dale 3. Winner of Cookeville/Coffee Co 4. Oakland 5. Loser of Cookeville/Coffee Co 6. Franklin Co 7. Blackman 8. Wildcard
  16. the concept of local mixed districts is good for less travel and better gates but the playoff system is flawed. Why not seed everyone based on a win-loss formula using strength of schedule or power rating system
  17. I sent ela a text tonight and asked him about the rumor. He sent me a smiley face and said no. I guess the rumors are not true.
  18. Coach Perry is one of the best in the state. He will have the Bears ready to go.
  19. Tennessee fans are the BEST and WORST fans in FB. They are the first to publicly condemn you when your kids lose and the first to pat you on the back when you win and say stupid things llike: "Coach, I knew you could do it and we're behind you 100%." The Tony Franklin 'system' is solid but it requires discipline at the QB position.
  20. The not so well kept secret is that David OConner is being courted by LC officials and boosters. I hate it for Louis Thompson after all that he has done in his career but idiots like Falcon62 may get their wish. I hope LC has the talent to chunk the ball. I doubt LC will find a Bo Wallace to execute the Bobcat style O.
  21. I did not attend the game but I don't see how anyone could complain about the Martin kid being one deminsional. Your team scored 48 points and over 400 yards of offense. It sounds like offense is not the problem. Tullahoma didn't stop Martin. I know several coaches at FC and I can promise you those men are professionals. People can talk all they want about coaches but it is 16 and 17 year old boys who must play the game. Take away three or four special team plays and your team is 5-1. I know your fans are frustrated but the Martin kid is your meal ticket. He is the 3rd leading RB in the state. If the coaches are putting the ball in his hands they are doing the right thing.
  22. Under the new system only the 1st and 2nd place teams get in UNLESS the 1st and 2nd place teams are in the same classification, then the team with the best district record qualifies. There are only two 6A teams in district 8-AAA so it may come down to the FC-LC game in two weeks to see who has the better district record. The new system was supposed to eliminate 2-8 or 3-7 teams from going to post season play but in several districts it will happen. Who would believe a LC team would be 0-6 going into week 7?
  23. I have known Coach Thompson to be a professional for decades and he is due a down season. Cut him some slack. Fickle fans need to shut up and know better days are 2 years down the road. Both 9th grade teams have talent but this year's schedule is brutal. They may finish 2-8, 1-9 but next year will be better.
  24. I saw the game Sat night and the best team won. THS had at least two TD's called back so it should have been 12 more points on the board. Let's face facts, LC doesn't have the talent to win this season. It has less to do with coaching and more to do with youth and experience. They won district last year but this year is a long rebuilding experience.
