What athletes does WC have returning?

The only way a weaker team could get in is if BOTH 6A teams are shut out of the first and second positions in the district. In other words, if FCHS and LCHS finished 4th and 5th respectfully (or lower), the winner of the head to head matchup between the two teams would go and the loser would have to earn the right as a wild card. Looking at this past years results I would doubt this scenario would happen because LC should be the favorite to finish 1st in District Play with several others in the hunt for the other auto bid to the playoffs. After that, it will be up to the total schedule and a wildcard selection IMHO.

Which five teams?

You almost have it right: The TOP TWO TEAMS in the REGION will go to the playoffs. Remember they don't split into 5A and 6A until AFTER the district records are complete! Then the TSSAA will look at the remaining teams and split them into 5A and 6A. For instance: 1. Let's say for argument sake that LC finishes #1 and Columbia finishes #2, then all the rest of the teams will have to earn a playoff slot through the wildcard system. 2. Let's say that Tullahoma and Lawrence Co finish 1 and 2, then your scenario comes into play with the two larger schools. Either FC or LC will earn a bid to the playoffs as a 6A team because neither of them finished in the top two in district. 3. Now let's say that LC and FC finish 1 and 2, and Columbia finished 3rd, then Columbia would earn an automatic bid into the playoffs because at least one team from each classification must go. It's confusing but that is the way it is setup.

I hope this is not the case but if it is true you can bet those coaches in Chattanooga will get some payback for Coach Wiggins. He is highly respected in the area and coaching is a fraternity.

This sure sounds fishy to me. When a coach is hired less than a week after the former coach is forced to resign without any coaching search whatsoever, it stinks of a setup. Now I don't have any facts to support my argument and I have not spoken to anyone at ND but I hope this new coach did not stab Wiggins in the back to get the job.

How may seniors is Rhea losing to graduation and what district will they be in next year? Are they moving up to 5A or 6A?

It looks like the Rebels have made some improvements, I sure didn't expect the game to be this close. I didn't see the game but read about it and spoke to a couple of TECH friends who were there. The Cavs could not get much going against the Rebel's defense. It looks like Cookeville will be the region winner unless Lincoln County beats them with Franklin County in third and Warren County in 4th place.

It is going to be very interesting to see how Region 4-5A lines up this season. I did not expect this outcome and it just goes to show you how balanced the region is this year with Riverdale not dominating as it has in the past. I am going to go way out on the limb and say that the state champion will come from this region (whoever ends up one or two).

Boy these two teams have developed a dislike for each other in just four short years.

I agree with this post. Parents do not have any business being in these post game meetings. Fans and parents should be kept back behind the fence (if the have one) until after the team meeting.

I know men who coach on both teams and I bet they are frustrated this season. Nunley and Atkins both want to put good teams on the field and I have no doubt they both work hard each week with the boys. I think Pedo said it best, this game will be about pride. I bet Cumberland County is up after their victory over White County and are looking at both of these teams as two more victories. One of these two teams can climb out of the basement this Friday with a region win. Good luck to both teams and lets hope this game is well played by both teams. Good luck coaches.

Lack of depth. Once you get past the first group they are thin. Their QB plays both ways and it makes it tough on them in the second half but no depth at LB.

FHS wins this one by two TDs

This will be an important game for both schools and the region. If CC loses they are almost out of the playoff picture unless they can beat FC and even then there would be a three way tie for 3rd and 4th. I think both schools are better than they look by their records. I bet Nunley finds a way to win with Kanjanabot leading the way. He was the best back in the region last year and should be better this season.

I don't think I would go around making such allegations just because you heard something in a conversation. I coach for a living, so does Coach Olive, and so does Coach Atkins. None of these men deserve to have libelous things said about them on this or any other website. It looks like you are new to CoachT. They don't allow that kind of talk on here. We don't bash coaches, players, or school administrators. It's all about the boys and way too much is made about the coaches. All this talk about film and porta Johns is just plain stupid. Atkins has never been known for anything other than being a class act. The same is true about Steve Britton and John Olive. Let the kids play the game and let them decide the outcome on the field tonight. Good luck to both teams.

Toss up game IMO. We will see how good CC is going to be this year and I think there will be a lot of Murfreesboro folks really interested in how Oakland plays this year. Oakland should have more speed but CC really plays hard.

It's sad when people can't stick to just trash talking each others teams. When it comes down to individual players or coaches, it should end. I remember a few years back a couple of players and dads went after a coach, they put for sale signs in his yard and did other things to his car in the parking lot of the school. It got ugly. People need to remember these boys play the game for fun and the coaches try to earn a living with their families teaching these boys how to play the game. Some folks jus take it all too far IMHO.

How does Smith County Look this year compared to last season?

I've known the guy for years, coached with him too. He was not fired from anything and yes you are trying to stir up stuff. Sounds like you have some sour grapes my friend.
