  1. I am curious about some of the injured kids' status. Any word on whether #24 and #20 will be available this week? Any other3 players that may return this week? I believe #88 will be back, #24 is trying but doesn't appear to be 100% yet, #20 probably not. All the other dinged up players will probably be ready. Two days of light practice due to rain will probably help their recovery.
  2. Sounds like Cherokee has a very big offensive and defensive front line. Probably another physical test for CAK. Boyd was huge in the OL, but I thought our DL actually grew up some after the 1st qtr and played inspired football. In addition to Boyd being a good team, CAK made it way too easy on them with 6 turnovers! I certainly hope Cherokee doesn't have a QB as big, strong and good as Boyd's, he really hurt us at times. Minus turnover troubles, I believe CAK can score enough points to win. It is difficult to defend coach Bradley's offense. Hopefully we learned alot from last weeks loss. Injuries could be a factor. Not much depth in certain positions and certainly several players are dinged up and one is suspended. We are having to use a lot of young players. Hopefully we will have good weather for our air attack. Looking forward to a great game.
  3. I don't think there was anything malicious about the QB hit, but I do believe the officials made the right call. Malicious would have been driving the QB to the ground or leading with his helmet etc... There didn't seem to be any intent to cause harm, simply hope for a turnover. Fans, parents, coaches and announcers will all be sensitive to their QB or other player for that matter, including CAK's. So comments or accusations of this kind are common and understandable in the heat of competition. CAK has a class program and I trust that most Buc fans would agree. Congrats again to Boyd. Not the prettiest of games but certainly exciting. Good luck this season.
  4. Congrats to Boyd. Complete domination in the first QTR. Hopefully CAK built some character in the 2nd half. I couldn't believe how incredibly big and athletic the Buc O-Line was!! A Boyd friend told me at the game that the OL averaged around 300lb, is that true?? The QB for Boyd was good, if he hadn't got those darn IV's for cramps maybe CAK could have pulled it out, but when he came back late he was able to lead the Bucs down the field for some time chewing first downs, impressive. I thought Boyd got gased very early and that almost cost them, CAK's conditioning kept them in the game. We are scrappy but that only gets you so far. So many turnovers I stopped counting at 5, very inconsistant on offense. CAK has a lot of improving to do, but I believe they have the coaches and players to get it done. Both teams should be playoff teams. Congrats to Boyd again for a nice game plan and solid performance, good luck this season.
  5. Dido on the CAK coaches. I don't know them but I would have to say that Maryville and Alcoa must have some pretty fantastic assitant coaches as well to consistantly win like they do.
  6. Prayers for all Central students, families and especially of those involved in the shooting. I hope that in some small way this incident will cause parents, teachers, and coaches to re-dedicate themselves to the raising of our young people. Kids don't need us to be "the cool parent, cool coach, cool teacher". They need us to step up and be responsible, firm, involved, unselfish, loving adults. They need us to teach them by way of example.
  7. Nice compliment BCsportsfan, thanks. Alcoa sets the bar very high for everyone in 2A, especially region 2. What you guys hava accomplished is impressive and a bit frustrating for the rest of us, but I give credit where credit is due. Alcoa could play 5A ball and still be in the mix! How do you continue to be so loaded year in and year out? Of course we have the mulitplier to live with or we would actually be a 1A school (400 students). We're proud that we are able to compete with most schools we play considering we have only had football for 7 years I think. Our kids work hard, have great coaches, but are a bit outmatched athletically overall when it comes to Alcoa. We will keep trying though. Good luck this season, except for when you play CAK of course, ha.
  8. Halls will be pumped but emotions could work against them, something goes wrong and they may end up in the emotional valley. Super OL should help Halls control the ball and the clock, but no established big play maker and limited passing ability forces Halls to have long sustained drives to score, which increases possibilites for penalties or turnovers to stop themselves. Maryville doesn't seem to have the offensive firepower they are accustom to having either, defense is going to be their strength, at least early on in the season. Field position from turnovers or special teams could be big factors in shortening the field for both teams. May even come down to who has the better kicker, yikes!! In a game this close on paper, I have to go with 5 straight state championships and the experience the coaches and players have had against top level competition. Maryville in a close one.
  9. IMHO, a much better defensive effort than what has been displayed in other scrimmages and jamboree. LB's are not meeting the ball carrier at the LOS, but rather catching them 5 yards deep or deeper, be more aggressive. Offensive line must grow up in a hurry and learn to at least get run over slowly, maybe tighten the gaps a bit. QB/Receivers should be able to complete some passes if QB isn't running for his life, Fulton is typically big, strong, and fast along the DL. If we can't slow them down at the LOS, try some screen passes.
  10. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, urge the Grace athletic director and CAK athletic director to sign a 2 year deal for 09 and 10 to play football. They both will need to find non regional games with the new classification, both are close, both are private, and both believe they are better than the other. Find out on the field. IMO CAK is a better football program than Grace and would win those games. But heck, lets find out on the field.
  11. Nice attempt to stir the pot Doc. You may want to check your spelling though before you refer to people as idiots. Thanks for the laugh.
  12. Interesting debate about platooning. Good if it works, bad if it doen't. How has it been working? Sounds like more kids are involved but what about the quality of play on the field? I don't have a son involved currently, what does it look like for the panthers in the future (next 3-4 years) .
  13. CAK vs Boyd, should be a fantastic game, very tough opener for both teams, no easing into the schedule here. IMO CAK wins in a close one.
  14. I'm sure Coach Lowe appreciates the compliment (didn't see him play personally) but I believe Cody Watts has most of the Powell QB records, I may be wrong. Have watched Watts and Houston. IMO Houston has not proven yet to be the same threat that Watts was, but thats no slam on Houston. He is a nice QB. That could be because Watts had a stronger supporting cast.
  15. CAK has looked better each week. Started slow against ST.BEN, got better against CARTER, and stepped up to a challenge with HALLS. Looked smooth against POWELL in jamboree. Very well coached, organized and disciplined. Offense will score points without a doubt. Need to improve run blocking. Defense is still a work in progress IMO. The DL and LB's are solid, not dominating but good. Must improve our pass coverage, especially the deep ball. FS is a strong run stopper but his aggessiveness may allow deep balls to be thrown over the top. 23 has helped athletically and speed wise. He just needs time to learn how to be a "football player", snaps will take care of that. Nice overall squad that should continue to improve as the season progresses. Season opener against Boyd will be a strong test, both are good teams.
  16. I've seen both CAK and Boyd in scrimmages this year. My assessment is that this might be one of the best week 0 games in the entire state. Both teams look solid (not Alcoa like, but....). Both can run and throw. Both have good QB's. CAK has the overall better RB, Boyd has the overall better DB's. OL and DL are similar. Boyds LB's are bigger, CAK's are faster. Sounds like a push. Don't know enough about coaches to say who is better there, but both teams look to be well coached and disciplined. Haven't seen kicking from Boyd but did hear that CAK kickers won their competitions at their jamboree, field goal and punting. Not having to travel is a plus for Boyd. Outside of fans being fans and getting fired up and all, this should really be a good game to watch. Good luck to both teams!
  17. mercy rule and no return on kick-offs into endzones are to cut down on injuries I would definitely vote to change the touchback on kickoff rule. How does that help on preventing injuries? Whats the difference in returning one from the 1 yard line or the endzone?(please, no "1 yard" cute answers, ha) I believe we should eliminate all unnecessary rules to help the officials focus. I witnessed a game where the kickoff team pulled up because the ball was caught about a foot inside the endzone but the official didn't call it dead (not in proper postion to make his call). The kid was tackled by the kicker at around mid-field, but those kind of things happen with silly rules like this.

  19. Not sure what the season schedule for Boyd holds, but I know the home opener is going to be a tough one for both CAK and Boyd. Sounds like both teams are looking pretty good. CAK handled Powell (4A) in their jamboree, looked solid against Halls (4a) and Carter (3A) and from what I've read on this board Boyd must be doing the same. Would be nice to ease into the season but it sure makes for a big noise maker to start things off! Can't wait to see how this one turns out.
  20. For whatever reason, Michael has gotten caught up in the revolving door. From LB to NG, now to OL. Much too good of a player to not be settled into a firm position. I believe right now his future is with the OL, but personally I like him at NG.
  21. Ironman: Watch your film again. Note that when the score is 21-7 and Halls gets the ball again and drives for the score that CAK's entire #2 defensive unit is on the field. Absolute fact. After Halls scores (21-14) CAK's #1 offense does come back on the field, is stopped, and punts. Halls takes the field again with their offense, once again against the CAK #2 defense. Halls scores and makes it 21-21 , but the last 2 Halls scores were undeniably against CAK's #2 defense. Look at every jersey number on the #1 defense and then compare that to jersey #'s when Halls scores their 2nd and 3rd touchdowns. In fact CAK's #1 defense never hit the field again. No disrespect but your looking through Red Devil tinted glasses if you will not own up to your "why not tell the truth" statement above. Let me know once you've watched the film again. By the way, it was a good scrimmage for both teams to learn from and it was nice to have a quality football team like Halls come to our school. But I take exception to you implying that CAK comments are untruthful. All CAK is trying to do is earn some respect for our young football program in Knox County, not trying to say we can play 4A football better than Halls or anyone else
  22. CAK vs Boyd Buchanan in Chattanooga
  23. Halls was not taken out to the woodshed. But if you are Halls you must be concerned. The varsity 1 vs 1 was indeed CAK 21 Halls 7 (yes 1 TD was an interception return, but I believe the TSSAA still recognizes that as a legitimate score). It may have been from the#2 QB, I don't know ,but the vast majority of the Halls players were the 1's. In fact, coach J declined to put in his #2's when CAK inserted theirs because he was so upset with the way the 1's were playing. Of course then Halls scored some points. But the CAK offensive and defensive #1's never saw the field after the score became 21-7 and both teams exchanged punts. Hall's opening drive was nice. Good hard nosed football. Punched in a TD on a 10+ play drive. On defense the pass defense was not very good. Would have been interesting to see a full game played to see if Halls would have worn CAK down (giving up about 40 lbs a man in the line) or if CAK would have continued to carve up the defense with passes. Who knows? Good game for Hall's to learn about pass defense, good confidence builder for CAK to be able to be competitive with much bigger and stronger team. Good luck to both teams this season.
  24. One injury was minor and the receiver is already back at practice. The other receiver has an ankle sprain and will require some time to recover
