Very true. Joseph Ayres a redshirt freshman DT from McCallie played extensive snaps today against Florida. Also, players such as Tyler Wolf, Nick and Shane Reveiz have seen a lot of playing time.

Every QB who has ever started a game at CAK attended CAK prior to the creation of their varsity football team.

I'm sorry, but all of these posts about Alcoa putting up 30-40 points and CAK only scoring 7-14 is just absurd. Alcoa may very well win, but I have a hard time believing that they will win by more than 10. Just look at the scores between these two the last two years and it is obvious CAK has gotten better and Alcoa has regressed (at least in terms of explosiveness). You guys have a great running game with Toney and #2, but they are not even on the same level as Lindsay, Shiverdecker, Hicks, or Hodge. Not to forget there are no Brandon Warrens, Randall Cobbs, Kyrus Lanxters, or Brian Sommers type of athletes on the field. You guys may have some potential D-1 players, but nothing like those guys at least right now. Alcoa is lacking those explosive athletes and gap is closer. And you cannot tell me Alcoa is better this year on defense. Last year I remember hearing how besides Maryville, CAK was not only the first team to score on Alcoa, but the first team to cross the 50 on them. There is no way this years Alcoa defense is better than the one that shut out every region opponent except for CAK. All that to say CAK matches up pretty well athlete for athlete with Alcoa especially our defense. Our defense is much improved statistically and experience-wise. Our best strength is our run defense which matches up well with your power run game. So it looks like CAK is even better this year and Alcoa is not quite as good as years past. So logically it should be a closer game than what everybody is saying. In my opinion I think this game will come down to the 4th quarter. Field position, turnovers, and time of possession will be vital to the outcome of the game just like it is between two pretty evenly matched teams. I will say this if there is one area that CAK has not closed the gap it's special teams. You better be able to punt well and cover well. That really hurt CAK last year, time and time again they had to go 80-90 yards to score whereas Alcoa only had to go 40-60 yards. Anyways that's my opinion and I'm not apologizing for it. Interesting comments about CAK's defensive scheme with the cover 3 look GVK. When you refer to the explosive plays that CAK's defense gave up. Were they runs or passes? Because, if they were passes I think the responsibility falls on the LBs particularly the OLBs. They are responsible for walling out/slowing down the receivers and throw off the timing to help out that midfield safety. Now I too don't claim to be a coach, but it sounds like the safety was out of position playing up or he is just aggressive by nature and that is his style of play. He should only be up if a blitz is called and that would leave the defense in an unfavorable position having to play man against a good passing team. Now if the long plays were runs then it sounds like it was just horrible night tackling for the warriors which is very uncharacteristic for them. And a good focused two weeks of practice should clear that lapse up. Now IMO it sounds like 86 exposed our lack of experience against a good passing team. Our D is use to going up against power running games with inadequate QBs. Now I know Alcoa has been running the ball 90% of the time, but they still have a great TE in Robinson. And their bread and butter passing play to my knowledge, is that play-action bootleg hitting Robinson for big plays. Now, I have no doubt Coach B will have that coached up well when it comes time to play them, because we defended it well last year. But just something for the D to work on and for us wannabe coaches to shoot the bull about during the bye week. Also, besides Houser and Burton who is the 3rd starting receiver and who goes in on 4-wide packages?

How did this game turn out? What were everyone's thoughts?

I know CAK started 7 on 7's this week. How did they do against Bearden last night and Karns tonight? Who were the big playmakers? How did the QB's do and who were the starting receivers?

Honestly, I think both Coach Bradley and Coach Pharr will bump heads a little bit over players. I know at Farragut unless you were a stud at baseball Coach Pharr wouldn't let his players play another sport. Now I think Coach Pharr understands that he won't be able to operate that way at CAK, however, he is going to demand a lot out of his baseball players. From what I understand Coach Pharr puts his players through rigorous off-season training at Farragut. And by rigorous I mean its very time consuming and sport specific. He will require players to long-toss, hit in the cages, throw bullpens, in-field work, field maintenance, and weightlifting. So if a kid is playing football or basketball he will quickly fall behind his baseball peers. All this to say Coach Pharr treats baseball the same way Coach Bradley treats football, as a true year round sport. If both coaches had their way, they would have players only play their sport.

I personally know Shipley and Nonnack. Everything Nonnack has said up to this point about Shipley could not be more untrue. Shipley is physically and mentally ready to handle Tn class AA football. You hear about NFL and college players who didn't start playing until their junior or senior years. Now I'm not saying by any means he is that caliber of a player, however, were talking about Tn high school football. So him not playing for two or three years is not going to be a hard obstacle to overcome. Honestly, I would be shocked if Shipley were smaller than 6'2 200 lbs. If Shipley were 6'1 170 lbs, he would still be bigger than two DE's that are expected to get playing time this fall. I promise you as far as the weight room goes Shipley is holding his own with the other expected starters. He may not be the strongest, but I guarantee he does not stick out as someone who is not physically ready. I also believe someone else stated that he was doing great as far as conditioning went with 4 qtrs and 110's. Mentally speaking why would you not want someone who has been apart of two state championship teams. Like FD said that kind of player should be warmly welcomed. And nonnack should not be calling the soccer players foot-fairies. The soccer team knows as much if not more about winning and playing as a team than anyone else within CAK athletics. I am not a soccer player by the way, but I can honestly say the soccer team is nothing but class. So no one especially nonnack should imply or say anything condescending or derogatory towards a program that is well deserving of any praise that they receive. Shipley is a great kid who wants to be part of something special at CAK. I'll be surprised if he does not contribute in a big way this fall. He is more than physically and mentally ready to contribute to the CAK football program.

As a CAK fan, I really wish CAK kept the series going too. It was a fun series and I know the players at CAK always marked this game as one of the two biggest games of the year if not the biggest for some of them. But I think the reason they dropped Webb was probably due to their already tough region schedule next year. They have Alcoa, Loudon, and Kingston in their region next year. And only the top two are guaranteed a ticket to the playoffs. So if there is tie in region records then it would go to overall record. And CAK can't afford a lot of losses in non-region games. And the way Webb has dominated CAK the last two years I don't think Coach Bradley wanted to keep it going. Plus from the way Webb looked when we played them it looked like they had a lot of young talent. And CAK has some good talent next year especially on defense, but their offense will be young. But the reason I think CAK dropped Webb was they just can't afford any non-region losses.

Does anyone know the score of this game right now?

I really have no clue. I know the winner of this game will play Loudon first round at Loudon. That is of course assuming Alcoa defeats Loudon this week. The loser of the CAK/Rockwood game will have to hope for a wildcard berth. And I do not where the wildcard team would get sent. But I think the loser of this game would get sent over to GP's quadrant assuming they get the wildcard.

Who takes this one? Winner gets an automatic entry into the playoffs. Loser has to rely on a hopeful wildcard. CAK seems to be clicking on all cylinders on offense. Their defense has been strong at times, but they can't seem to get the ball back in the offense's hands. Don't know much about Rockwood. I expect them to be very tough and physical. Hope for a great game!

I think the roughing the passer rule should fall under the penalty of unsportsmanlike conduct not its own separate penalty. Just like a running back who is out of bounds and linebacker takes a cheap shot when the play is over. If a quarterback throws the ball and one second passes (or whatever the rule is) then the quarterback is out of the play and any shot at him should be a penalty. Any late hit out of bounds or well after the ball is thrown just shows a lack of discipline and self-control on the part of the defensive player. Now if the quarterback throws the ball and its bang bang then the defensive player had the pure intention of making a play. Now if a quarterback is running the option and pitches it he should be hit bc he could act as a lead blocker making him part of the play. Same if a interception is thrown the quarterback is part of the play and can make a tackle so he is fair game. And any ref who clearly sees unsportsmanlike conduct and turns a blind eye to it just shows his true character.

I'm a CAK fan so I have a biased opinion but I think the warriors are starting to come into their own. We all knew CAK had some very good talent coming into the year, but the question was the major lack of experience. I think coming off the Alcoa game CAK got some confidence. Hopefully that confidence will carry over into the next three games. I think now the CAK players who lacked experience coming in have seen a lot since the season started and are much more poised now. They know whats its like to travel to a far away game. They know whats it like to be up big. Know what its like to be down and fight back. I think we can expect a more consistent CAK team the rest of the season. I think CAK gets a big win to send the seniors out on a good note. Yeah I've heard he and Thompson are really good at soccer. I've heard they both have gotten some D1 looks for soccer, but I think both of their sports are football at the next level.

I thought the major key to Alcoa's victory was their special teams especially their kicking game. All night long CAK either started on their own 20 due to kicks through the endzone. And several times they started within the 20 due to good punts. CAK's punt returner probably gave up close to a hundred yards of field position due to letting punts bounce instead of making a play. I don't care who you are no team is going to drive it 80-90+ yards on Alcoa's defense. CAK's only score came when they got the ball on their own 45 I believe. Now correct me if I'm mistaken but haven't all three touchdowns scored on Alcoa this year were when they fumbled on their own 35 against Maryville. When Maryville started with the ball past their 40 yard line. And when CAK got the ball on their own 45 yard line. That shows how stout that Alcoa defense is. Also Alcoa's punt returners did a great job making plays putting them in great field position. I believe they almost returned one back which they ended up scoring off of plus another good return. All in all Alcoa was able to capitalize off this aspect of the game and CAK had the short end of the stick. But sometimes that is just the wall the ball bounces (pun intended).

CAK beat Powell 10-0 in a jamboree this year and 14-0 to nothing in the jamboree last year. Also CAK beat Halls I believe 21-7 in a scrimmage earlier this year. Say what you want about 2a being weak but Maryville plays in a very weak region in 4a. The region has been especially weak since "The streak" started. I'm not taking anything away from that record but if Maryville had been playing the Hall's and Central teams of the 90's that streak would not stand. It also wouldn't stand if they scheduled some 5a teams, DII teams, or out of state teams.

Best team in High School Football is by far Byrnes high school in South Carolina. I watched them play Pahokee last night. And no team in Tennessee including Maryville, Alcoa, Farragut or Brentwood etc. would gain a hundred yards on them. And no team in Tn would keep Byrnes from scoring 50 to 60. High School football in Tn is pretty weak compared to the rest of the country.

I don't know anything really about BTW except what is being said on this thread. So with that said the only success they might have is Alcoa coming up short on the first drive. And that would only be due to Alcoa shaking off the rust from the bye week. Then after that the F5 will be in full force. I expect another Spring Hill. Don't mean to be hard on BTW its just Alcoa is very good. Anyways best of luck to both teams and wish for a safe game with no injuries!

In fact CAK is nothing more then a team that gets the most out of otherwise average players at your normal high school. Just look at the size of the lineman they average 215. And CAK has a school policy that no player on financial aid is allowed to participate in a sport. So do not go and make judgments about things you have no clue about. And as far as the skybox comment goes. Sure there are some wealthy people at CAK, but there are plenty of families who work their butts off to send their kids here. And yes there are some people who don't represent the school's name well but show me one institution that is completely perfect in the public's eyes and when no one is looking.

I'm sorry I should have clarified a little bit better. I thought the Alcoa line could have played a little better. If they could have held their blocks a split second longer a couple times, then I think Chase could have broken some big runs. Plus it never seemed he got settled in if he would have gotten a little more comfortable he could have had a big night in the air too. But hey the Maryville D-line is incredible with Smith and McCoy! But you know its a good thing when your line doesn't play near its capability IMO and still loses to one of the nations best by 7.

Now that the season is in full swing and kids are back to school the normal routine is established. I expect Boyd to play their best game of the year so far. However, I also expect the same for Marion. But I think the Boyd offense will really break through this week and give them the edge. Boyd by 10.
