  1. I am a life long Greeneville fan but I have become disenchanted with the BRAC. To never be challenged in your conference is not exciting for me as a fan. I was thrilled to win two state championships. However with the combined score of those two games I believe being 97-12, are we really playing at the correct level?
  2. Well said Barb. There is hopefully a lot of football left to play. Let's move forward and focus on getting ready for the playoffs. Not to take David Crockett lightly but regardless we are the # 1 seed out of Region 2 and have home field as long as we win.
  3. We are all to blame. Sometimes we get too caught up and forget that beyond the great athlete there is also a human being that has problems just like everyone else. Jordan does need to suffer some consequences but he does not need to be continuously bashed. If he is not going to be allowed to play, then I would like for the administration and coaching staff to keep him on the team and relegate him to the practice squad. He would not be allowed to play in any games but he would be invaluable in helping to prepare the defense for the upcoming playoffs. By doing this, Jordan could prove his value in another way beside being the gameday quarterback. I do not know if this is realistic but I think if he is still in school, he should still be allowed to practice and dress for the games.
  4. Think back a # of years to when Unicoi County and Austin East first moved down from AAA to AA. They both dominated for the first few years when they moved down. After awhile the competition either caught up or AE and Unicoi became passive because they ended up middle of the pack after a few years. My point is, it is very hard to keep your edge if you constantly dominate your competition. My thinking is that GHS will try to offset becoming passive by scheduling the best competition possible outside of conference play.
  5. GHS wins pulling away late, 35-21. The big one will be the next week vs. East. I witnessed the East/West game and East has a great secondary. It will be interesting to see how the Devils passing game fares against the Canes D. East is also the most physical hard hitting team I have seen in the IMAC since the late 80's and early 90's when GHS and Jeff were both loaded with head hunters.
  6. If an individual can hit someone with the ferocity that the video showed and the individual that threw the punch is not mad or angry in any way, that in and of itself would indicate severe behavorial and/or emotional problems.
  7. I heard Greenway had been suspended from school again. Will he be allowed to play this fall?
  8. Good point. It is easy to sit and criticize the coaches. It may look easy from the stands but I know that 99.999999 percent of us (me included) that criticize could not come close to doing the job that we take these people for granted for. I too think Greeneville is much improved (how much will not truly be known until early December). Remember, just a few years back Greeneville was expected to make it to the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs each year. That said, until someone between Morristown & Bristol (West did it in 2003, but once in a blue moon does not satisfy for long) can beat Maryville (or the Region 3-4 champ), nothing will have truly changed.
  9. The question(s) I have are the following: What are the perks being offered to the new head coach? What success criteria is being laid out for the program to meet? What is the timeline for meeting said success criteria? Will the new coach be a strict disciplinarian? What criteria will the players be held to, on and off the field? Will the new head coach be accountable to meet and maintain the agreed upon success criteria? Lastly, to whomever said that football is king in this part of the country; that is true but evidently not at GHS. Mike Zeller was relieved of his duties 4 months ago. The candidates should have been identified long ago and a successor named and in place.
  10. Great post. It is now time for all of us to unite and support the remaining NET teams.
  11. Congrats to D-B. They hung in every time I thought GHS was going to make a run and separate themselves. D-B got solid performances from several players; they did not have to rely on a "hot hand". It did appear that D-B got stronger at the end of the game whereas GHS peaked in the 2nd qtr. Good luck to D-B the rest of the way (I will always pull for NET area teams). Congrats to GHS for a great season and good luck to all the seniors. You will be missed!
  12. If Greeneville plays with the intensity and discipline that they showed against Volunteer, I see them winning this game. Although Gash and Wiggins were clearly the stars of the Volunteer game, they got quality minutes from every person that stepped on the floor. I thought Chris Epley really gave GHS some quality minutes.
  13. Does Volunteer have a chance in this game? I really don't know much about them. I know the Big Nine is a much stronger conference top to bottom then the IMAC. With Greeneville playing at home and Coach D leading the way, does Volunteer have any chance?
  14. Word has it that there are disciplinary (one individual) problems within the GHS baseball team. This is the same individual that was dismissed from the football team with two games remaining this past year. It will be interesting to see if this individual is allowed to play or even stay at GHS. Sports are not a necessity; only the students that conduct themselves in a postive manner should be allowed to participate. Cancers spread if they are not terminated. It will be very interesting to see how this is handled by the GHS administration.
  15. There are only automatic regional berths for the teams that finish 2nd and/or 1st if the district has 6 teams or less.
  16. Yeah right, who is this person. I wish they would quit embarrassing themselves and GHS fans. Sure we can take SH but will we remains to be seen. Based on the results of the first meeting, we should not be tooting our horns.
  17. I was at the game. Congrats to SH. I was very surprised at the outcome; not so much that SH won but by the manner in which they dominated the game. GHS was not outcoached; it had nothing to do with Coach Duncan. The SH players dominated regardless of what combination they used. Omar completely dominated Wiggins in every facet of the game. I was really surprised by that. I thought that the two of them would more or less offset one another but.... Regardless of venue, I don't see GHS beating SH if SH plays even close to what they did last night. A fluke does not usually entail a 29 point victory.
  18. Barb I enoy reading your posts and find you to be very knowledgeable however, I must disagree with your assessment of this. I think it is obvious that this is not a top priority for GHS. Coach Zeller was relieved of his duties more than 60 days ago and the administration is still in the process of taking applications? To my knowledge the first interview has not even been conducted. Such a process does not nor should it take anywhere near this long. A committee, regardless of who it is made up of means nothing unless some time of action is being taken and progress made. The time passed several weeks ago for showing the community that this was a high priority.
  19. Wiggins is # 1 and I don't say that just because I am a Greeneville fan. All things considered, Wiggins is an all-around better player than Wattad or Oglesby. The main reason for saying this is that Wiggins more so than the other two makes the players around him better. Perhaps most of that credit should go to Coach Duncan. I also think that Duncan is the best coach around. He may not have the most talented teams, but he always get the most out of the talent he has to work with.
  20. How many of you are going to quit your job because you don't like your boss/supervisor/manager/etc.? Dancing Bear is right, any high athlete that QUITS and says its because they don't like the coach does not respect the GAME and has no business being on the field or sideline!
  21. I agree with "Bustinout". Whoever takes this job will have to be a FIRM disciplinarian. There were some cancers on the GHS team this year and they must be cured or removed altogether if they are to be anymore successful next year. It all starts with discipline. Playing a team sport used to be a privilege; that got lost somewhere, some time ago. The old GHS teams used to be respected, the current crop of players has turned this once proud program into a homecoming delight. I wish the best of luck to whoever takes the job. First and foremost, I hope the new coach is granted 100% autonomy to run the program without anyone looking over his shoulder!
  22. As I said in another post, I saw a clip on Hamilton. They are talented, athletic, and very deep. Were Bill Duncan coaching Hamilton rather than Greeneville, I would agree that Hamilton might win by 30. However, since Duncan is GHS' coach, I still say that despite Hamilton's advantage in overall talent and depth, the game will be closer than most people think. If GHS can withstand Hamilton's surges of fresh bodies, I think they can stay in the game until the end. I guarantee one thing, no matter if Hamilton jumps out to a big early lead or whatever, GHS will not quit till the final buzzer!
  23. Let's talk about Greeneville vs. Hamilton. Hamilton is the favorite going in and they should be. That being said, Bill Duncan (who in my opinion is the finest HS coach I've seen) with 10 days to prepare will have his troops ready to play and believing that they can compete. Will that be enough, I do not know. If anyone has digital cable, there was a piece on Hamilton a few weeks ago on one of the sports channels. They play 14 players and seem to be very disciplined. According to the piece they do not suffer a drop off in production regardless of who is in the game. In my opinion they play nothing like Science Hill who by the way is not the team they were when George Pitts was at the helm. I believe if Greeneville can withstand the surges and stay close, they can compete. A lot of what will happen will depend on whether or not Greeneville's top 6 players can withstand Hamilton's 14. Based on the piece I saw (I know that was only a snapshot), I think Greeneville can match up if it was top 5 vs. top 5 for the entire game. But Greeneville may not have the stamina to withstand the onslaught of fresh bodies that Hamilton will throw at them. Go Greene Devils! You have made everyone proud!
  24. Can anyone update the score/time of the GHS/Science Hill game for me?
  25. Greeneville is playing very well right now. I think the Devils win by 10-15 points. I am a GHS fan but you gotta like their chances of advancing.
