  1. I look forward to watching Jacques at UT. He's a special talent and apparently a great all-around young man. I congratulate him on all he's achieved and wish him the very best.
  2. I'll be pulling for the Lady Admirals, but if I were betting (not that I condone the setting of lines and wagering on outcomes!) I'd go with Bearden and Heritage to advance to the substate. However, I should admit to having only seen 6 of the 8 participants. Should be some good matchups and hopefully a better atmosphere than the District 4 Tourney (wake me when it's finally over!).
  3. Bearden had its full complement of players in Friday's 68-48 victory at Farragut.
  4. Will is an impressive young man in addition to being an outstanding, versatile offensive lineman. This Farragut SR class was a great group, which over their 3-year varsity careers went undefeated at home and advanced to the quarterfinals each year while winning a total of 31 games. For a majority of the games this year the WFIV broadcasts incorporated player interviews into the halftime show. All of the Farragut players I had the opportunity to talk with were intelligent, well-spoken, well-mannered, team-first guys. Throughout the season they built one another up, always played hard but clean, set several school marks (both individual and team), epitomized sportsmanship, and maintained the high standards of their predecessors. Simply put, they were very fun to cover and extremely easy to root for. They reflect well their parents and coaches. Good luck to Ooltewah! I'll miss the intensity of the rivalry, and the always helpful, friendly fellas in the Owls' Nest pressbox (you know who you are).
  5. Those with portable radios will be able to hear the WFIV broadcast in and around the stadium on FM 107.3
  6. According to a News-Sentinel article Catholic's principal requested that Catholic be placed in District 3 where, on average, the schools have lower enrollment figures. A motion for Catholic to me moved to District 3 was made at the TSSAA meeting, but there was no second to the motion, so it died. Whenever possible, or to as great a degree as possible, I guess they were trying to achieve some semblance of balance between 5A and 6A schools in each district. For Catholic (5A) to have been in District 3, almost certainly Hardin Valley (6A) would have had to go to District 4. That would have only exacerbated the imbalance. As it is District 4 is comprised of three 5A schools and five 6A schools. District 3 consists of six 5A schools and three 6A schools.
  7. He starts at tight end and defensive end and is a key contributor on special teams. He was ejected for a scuffle with Science Hill's left tackle. From the press box the call was a head scratcher. I would think in those circumstances and at this time of the year, as an official you'd want to first call a personal foul / unsportsmanlike penalty. Instead, the official went straight to the ejection. Both players were engaged, but only Farragut was penalized. As was stated earlier on this thread, the TSSAA will not reverse itself on appeal. The appeal is merely a form of protest. There's been some criticism on this board of the way the officials handled the melee late in the D-B / McMinn 1st round game. Obviously, it was a different set of circumstances, but it sounds as though the officials showed good judgement in calling personal fouls rather than tossing players.
  8. Thorough97, I suspect you're the gentleman who provided me with Ooltewah's season stats prior to the Ooltewah vs. Farragut game. If so, thanks again. As for Reese, I've still got the Oak Ridge game to review to double-check my numbers, but what follows is close enough for a forum such as this. Regular season passing 139 completions in 225 attempts (.618) for 2,082 yds 20 TDs / 6 INTs (3 of which were on tips) I agree with you that Soddy-Daisy's Scott Parrott is one of the premier QBs in East Tennessee who deserves some promotion.
  9. Regarding Coach Courtney, in a profession filled with good guys he's one of the best. He's devoted the better part of 30 years to Farragut High School and the Farragut community. This year the old concrete home stands at Farragut were replaced with a new aluminum structure. It seems like perfect timing to give "Admiral Stadium" a more official name. Personally, I love the sound of, "Bill Clabo Field at Eddie Courtney Stadium . . . "
  10. Making those assumptions, Farragut would host Science Hill in the first round. Assuming, then, that the higher seeds survive, Farragut would travel to D-B for round 2. Should both Farragut and Ooltewah make the QF, the game would be played at Ooltewah. The winner would then host the semifinal.
  11. 12. It should be an outstanding match-up. These are arguably the two best passing teams in East TN. I suspect they'll sling it around a bit, even in the rain. Also, given the investment that has been made, I wanted to let folks know that WFIV will have its first ever stadiumcast. This means that those attending the game with their portable radios will be able to listen to the same broadcast going out over the airwaves back home in West Knoxville (FM 105.3) and streaming live on the web (www.farragutfootball.com). The frequency that we'll be using for the stadiumcast is FM 107.3 which should come in loud and clear in and around the stadium.
  13. A couple more games being played tonight: Rockwood @ Alcoa CAK @ Sweetwater Others?
  14. I see CoachT has inquired about games being moved to Thursday, October 30th (week 10). What about week 9 -- who's playing this Thursday? I know about McMinn Co. vs. Heritage, and Sequoyah vs. Howard. Are there others?
  15. Farragut's kicking stats: Brad Galloway 0/1 FGs (missed from 24 yds vs. William Blount), 27/30 PATs Christian Ponce 2/2 FGs (33 yds vs. West & 32 yds vs. Bradley Central), 6/7 PATs Ooltewah's kicking stats: John Long has hit 7 FGs (44 yds, 40 yds, 26 yds, 22 yds, 39 yds, 24 yds, 39 yds), 24/25 PATs Robbie Holsemback 1/1 PATs It's obvious the weekly stats listed in the Times-Free Press haven't been updated. Should anyone here on CoachT have Ooltewah's season stats, I'd love to arrange a way to get those prior to Friday's broadcast. WFIV is anticipating having a stadiumcast for the first time this week. As of now, we're tentatively planning on FM 107.3 being the frequency that those in attendance can listen in on. I'll post an update when I know for certain.
  16. Last year's game was as good a high school contest as I've ever seen. You had an explosive start with WB scoring quickly and tacking on a 2-point conversion; a 1 point game at the half (WB up 15 - 14); 42 4th quarter points, including touchdowns for both teams in the final minute; plus, of course, the decision by Coach Meadows to go for 2 and the win, and the subsequent victory-preserving stop by the Farragut defense. They don't come more exciting or dramatic than that.
