  1. True, it's aspirational in nature, as are most mission statements but you might be surprised. Come for a visit sometime.
  2. I was rolling along--believing what you said--right up until you made the statement that there were more African-Americans at Ensworth than at MPHS. I don't believe that. I also think you might be missing the point. We aren't mad that we lost an athlete--Antonio didn't play much football until high school--we lost a great kid. Where was Ensworth when he was in elementary school and couldn't play Pop Warner Football because was too big? We are proud and happy-------and feel robbed! In order to feel robbed, someone must take your property away. That's what public school fans don't get. The kid was not your property to begin with. Never was.
  3. Sarcasm? What's that? BTW, I'd root for the Middies over the Army team all day, every day. Couple of pretty good ex-BA players there, as you might know. Too many kids/parents of kids put way too much emphasis on getting the best athletic opportunity in college, rather than the best academic and life-skills opportunity. Unless being a pro is the goal, use the athletic ability to get the best college education you can.
  4. Love the new avatar! Hope things are going well over at another of my favorite schools!
  5. I admit to hijacking the thread, but it was simply easier that way. I really don't have the inclination to research every MBA, BA and EHS player in terms of where they went to middle school. As I stated...time will tell on all this. I could be wrong. It has been known to happen. I sincerely hope all of these schools continue to excel at what they do. RRR...funny line!
  6. Are you implying that Ensworth's sole goal is to win at football? I don't think that any of us that are DII fans should stoop to that level of discourse.
  7. The game last year was very close...MBA came back from probably the worst start to a game the school's ever had. Suppose they'd held the lead and won, thus had a 2-1 record againt Ensworth (same record Ensworth has now). Would you use that limited evidence to argue that Ensworth was having no effect at all on the MBA program, given that on the same basis you're saying that Ensworth is having a devatstaing effect on MBA? Certainly Ensworth is getting some kids who would have gone to MBA. But MBA is also getting more kids from less traditional places as well. They're having no trouble filling classes with very well qualified young men. Nashville is bigger than it was in the '70's, and a greater percentage of parents are sending kids to private schools. We'll be ok. Please point out where I stated that "Ensworth is having a devastating effect on MBA"? Your old MBA debate team coach would not look favorably on such obvious rhetorical overkill. What I stated was that Ensworth is beginning to have an impact on both MBA and BA athletically. It's also having an impact on Harpeth Hall and BA in girl's athletics. Clearly all of these programs will "be OK", but the impact is there. Just for the record, I have nothing but the greatest respect for Coach Bowers as a coach. He is incredible...Probably the best coach I have ever seen at the high school level. I think you also know that I have great respect for both MBA and Ensworth as schools. Both add a lot to the Nashville community.
  8. Of course they are coming from the same places...there just aren't as many of them, nor are they the quality that MBA used to get. It's simple math. When another top program is added in an area, it dilutes the talent. In addition, although most of your teammates came from those schools, a few of the best players did not, and those types of players make a ton of difference. We'll see how it shakes out. The evidence is on my side of the argument so far.
  9. Ricky Bowers has had great players flock to him wherever he has gone. All the MBA posters that proclaim that the Big Red only won in the Bowers years due to having physically overmatched, but really smart and better-coached teams make me chuckle. Give me a break! Even in the years when he was a BA assistant the Eagles had the best talent they have ever had. As long as he is the head coach at Ensworth, they will be very competitive. The "Ensworth effect" is beginning to really have an impact on both BA and MBA athletically...especially MBA. The Big Red supporters can deny it all they want, but in their gut, they know it is real. Most of those players you see on the Ensworth team today would have been on MBA's team 4-5 years ago. Maybe a couple would have played for BA also. Good for Ensworth. They are really building a quality program there.
  10. You talking about Alabama's past probation, or the Tennessee one that's a couple of years down the pike?
  11. MUS is the best team in the state this year...by far!
  12. That's a joke I'd bet a lot of money would never be seen on the DI boards. But then, I guess I'm lucky to understand it, since I am an "alumni" of public schools! Doesn't get much funnier than Latin grammar!!
  13. I'll just add that one of the real pleasures of having BA compete in DII was the opportunity to interact with the McCallie "family". To me, they always represented an ideal of what sportsmanship was all about, both the players and the fans.
  14. Not only the recruiting shots, but all the other general nonsense that goes on at CoachT. I have a pretty thick skin, and would be more of an active poster, (albeit while gritting my teeth and trying not to argue online with 15 year olds!) but I really don't keep up with BA athletics much anymore since both my kids graduated. Unlike many, I just don't think I should post when I don't really know much. Hope the Eagles have a good year though. Still enjoy reading the posts from time to time however! Shout out to RRR...Where does 2 losses in a row rank all-time in TN? You know what I mean. Miss our conversations.

    What School?

If you're talking overall excellence and consistency, it's Brentwood Academy. Period. If you're looking at public schools, I think I'd take Bearden, Oak Ridge, Houston, Maryville and Brentwood, although that varies year to year. It is mostly about coaching. Not so much the technical aspects, although that is important, but more about which coaches can spot the talent in their student body, and get them to come out for T&F rather than some other Spring sport.
  16. High school throwers tend to be inconsistent, especially in the discus. It's all about who peaks for the big meets at the end of the year. Good to see some local kids doing so well.
  17. Yeah...I saw the two BHS kids listed over 50 in the paper this week. That's really good. Did they get a new throwing coach? They have never been very good in the past.
  18. The throwing events are, unfortunately, pretty consistently poorly run. They do a good job at the state meet, but that's about it. Even at the Great Eight Meet at Vandy few years back they had members of their women's track team managing the men's shot, and they were actually measuring from the center of the ring for a few throws until I could grab a coach and get it corrected. What can you do??!!
  19. Yeah...even better! Is he not playing basketball? I have not seen his name in the boxscores lately.

    DII-AA

Is Thad McHaney injured or something? I haven't seem his name in the boxscores for quite a while.
  21. That was Richard Nixon's favorite quote also.
  22. You mean the only conference undefeated in Bowl games this season? /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  23. I hear she landed on her feet as Ensworth's new recruiting coordinator. BA got outbid...again!! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
