  1. Outside of the first round, they do this for all playoff games in Ohio.
  2. The BoC selected Chattanooga to host in 2021 and 2022, but I'm not aware of a decision being made for 2023/2024 yet. At the January BoC meeting, there was a discussion with Chattanooga Sports regarding the contract for the 2023 and 2024 championships, but no decisions have been made yet. I assume that there will be something more definitive on the agenda for the meeting on March 1. They should absolutely be playing at Nissan, especially with the new turf coming.
  3. Might as well keep the discussion going lol... Fact - OR is a great school/system, and has been for quite some time. Fact - OR has one of the highest employment rates of certified teachers with advanced degrees (MS/EdS/PhD) in the state. Fact - The OR city school system has the highest average teacher salary in the state, although Maryville and Alcoa are a close 2nd/3rd. Fact - Knox County has a handful of really high performing schools as well, specifically Farragut, Bearden, West, HVA, and L&N. Fact - Other very successful school systems in the area have borrowed from the OR "model", specifically Maryville, Alcoa, and Greeneville. Fact - A number of other schools in the area have caught up to OR in the past 10-20 years from a performance rankings perspective, largely because of improvements in college readiness and more AP class offerings across the board. IMO, the one unique thing that separates OR from all of the other schools in the area is the quality/credentials of the faculty from top to bottom. Does that automatically equate to the highest performing students? Not necessarily, but they historically are one of the highest performing schools in the state year after year, and that isn't debatable. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. And you certainly can't make him thirsty.
  4. Interesting twist is that Rang was Cummings' DC when they were at West.
  5. Wow, great get. Big question is pretty obvious though - How long will he stay put?
  6. OR city schools also has a much higher percentage of MS/PhD faculty compared to the surrounding school systems. It's a combination of experience plus higher credentials. That's how they warrant the higher salary. My wife is a retired teacher, and it is very difficult to get hired into the OR school system with just BS degree.
  7. Given what OR just did with Cummings, I would be shocked if they hire someone who isn't squeaky clean.
  8. Not exactly, given his statement this afternoon.
  9. Boy, I'm hearing some weird stuff, but it's all hearsay at this point. I'll wait until something official comes out. Really sucks for that program.
  10. Cat, I assume that one reason was to prevent TN from getting "left behind." With over half of the states already approving some version of NIL legislation for prep athletes, the future Walter Nolen's of the world would likely never move to TN to play high school football. I'm not saying that's a good reason to do this, but I think that's one of the explanations for why we jumped on board.
  11. Martinez is a huge loss. Just like Potts at Powell. I actually think both AC and Powell project similarly in 2023, although AC brings back more WR talent overall.
  12. Isn't Moog a junior? I actually don't think they'll take as big of a step back as some think. They have to break-in a new QB which will be a challenge, but they bring back most of their OL, they have some skill guys coming back (including Moog), and they only lost about half of their starting defenders.
  13. I've been involved in this entire thread, but I went back and looked just to humor you. Who implied that this kid had character issues? Just because Bobby mentioned the academic/character aspect of the award and which "media outlets know these kids grades or character issues" is just another conspiracy theory. He's the only one that played the character/academics card, but even he didn't call out this kid as a "problem." So I guess by Bobby you mean "several people". Give me a break.
  14. I don't think a single person in this thread implied that about him at all, fwiw.
  15. FWIW, there are multiple names missing from this list that are on the single season rushing leaders list.
  16. You can make an argument for each of these three guys, and that happens just about every year. Unfortunately, only one can win it, and I certainly understand why so many are disappointed that Dowell didn't win. I remember in 2011 when Powell's Dy'shawn Mobley wasn't even a finalist, yet he broke TSSAA's single season rushing record, logged the 2nd most rushing TDs in a season, and barely played after halftime that year. The only reasonable explanation I could come up with was two of the finalists (Kimbrow and Mathers) were from larger metro areas, and Robinette was the Maryville QB. At least they got it right the following year and Jalen Hurd won it.
  17. Agreed, cat. Powell will be fine. They may not experience their current level of success on the field, but Powell has always had a very competitive program, outside of the year that [he who shall not be named] played his fiddle while Rome burned. And the subsequent years when Rodney Ellison tried to pick up the pieces. 5A is definitely going to take a step back in this part of the state next year, although I would argue from top to bottom it isn't all bad. Just look at Region 3 this year. LC wasn't the doormat that they've typically been. They were a much improved team. And while Clinton didn't meet expectations, they aren't the Clinton of 4 or 5 years ago. Same with Heritage in Region 2. Of course the flip side is that teams like Karns and Halls will likely take a big step back. What's missing are the truly dominant teams at the top, the one or two that are just light-years ahead of everyone else. I don't think you'll see that in either region next year, but that should make for a very entertaining season overall.
  18. You and me both, cat. I do not envy coaches these days.
  19. Wow, that is a long stretch between home games for OR (after 9/1).
  20. I don't know his entire offer list, but I know that Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky both offered him over the summer. I'm not aware of any FBS offers though. I think he'll play FCS, but given his measurables (6'7" - 280), he could eventually transfer to an FBS program if he develops.
